so i was rewatching dan’s vid (yet again) and something hit me. most people in his place would probably have referred to their partner as “my boyfriend/girlfriend” once coming out, but dan specifically chose not to say those words and use “best friend,” “companion in life” and even “soulmate” despite him not believing in souls, and at first i thought it was just him keeping things ambiguous and private as he said he liked to do but then i realized, that’s because phil is so much more to dan than his “boyfriend.” that label must actually be the one he least cares about, probably. phil is the person who makes him feel safe, who is compatible with him on every level, someone he is absolutely sure will be in his life forever, and their bond goes so beyond a relationship. “boyfriend” doesn’t even come close to describing what they are and i think that’s why dan chose to use words that truly held a deeper, truer meaning to his feelings for phil. and that is so fucking beautiful. the way they love each other is so fucking beautiful.

disclaimer: i agree this video is about a whole lot more than their relationship, this is just something that occured to me while rewatching and it made me cry again and i don’t know what to do with this realization
