Read a fanfic once where it states that Sirius trained as a healer towards the end of the war and that honestly changed my entire view of his character because, like, hell yeah.

By the time Sirius is 20, Lily is pregnant. She'll need to into hiding and do that without a healer. Someone they trust will have to do it. That's reason enough for him to train in healing, in my eyes.

But he also grew up with Remus. He saw almost every scary and bruised Remus got from age twelve onwards. He'd watch, in person, from fifth year onwards, how Moony would craw and bite his flesh when agitated. That would motivate anyone to become a healer.

And it keeps his rebellious spirit going too. As the Black heir, he would have been expected to be violent to some degree. Expected to be cruel and callous, willing to torture and kill. Choosing to give life, instead of take it, is a rebellion against his family while helping his friends and countless others.

I don't remember what fic it was, it was a Wolfstar raising Harry fic if I remember rightly, but it was a peak Headcanon mentioned once and has been lodged in brain since.
