Rina’s Baby Shower
Dominik through the holidays
Traditional Korean Wedding Paebaek Customs
So, I got to help out my sister and BIL in a photoshoot for her friend's website. It's a Korean wedding custom called a Paebaek. The original Paebaek ceremony was for the groom's side of the family to be introduced to the new bride. In current modern times, since it's most likely that groom & bride will have already met the family, this is more of a "show" and usually done during the reception at the wedding.
Since I like to incorporate Dominik into my pics as often as I can, here he is in the setup. Screen in the back, bamboo mat underneath, 2 floor cushions (where Dominik is standing), large table with traditional pastries/chestnuts (the ones in the picture are fake), and a small table with tea in the front.
Here's Dominik wearing the Groom's hat (left) and the Bride's headpieces (right).
Groom: Wears his wedding suit shirt, tie and pants. On top is the traditional outer garment with separate belt, hat and boots.
Bride: Wears a traditional hanbok with a red skirt (the top color doesn't matter since the outer garment covers it up), outer garment, belt, head piece, pin, garment for the head pin and finally the long headpiece in the back.
It was a fun shoot, and fun to see my sis and BIL acting silly while dressed in full formal Korean garb.
Jina's Bridal Shower
So, this past Saturday, we had a simple bridal shower. Our close friend hosted it at her lovely home for 15 people.
We chose to only have 1 table for 8 with flowers. Rest of the guests were at the island counter or on the sofa, so we didn't feel it necessary to take up more space with another large table. The runners are glitter cardstock discs that were sewn together.
Simple and clean for the crudite & cheese area set up on the kitchen island.
Our favors table. We printed out images of the bride to be on transfer paper and ironed them onto white V-necks shirts. Also, just a small favor bag of chocolates. The pink, yellow and red roses are pens. I took fake flowers purchased from Dollar Tree, some floral tape and wrapped each pen that was going to be used for the bridal games.
The cups were purchased from Anthropologie and the flowers from Trader Joe's. The cake is a 10" round Triple Berry Cake from Sweet Lady Jane. I took some chipboard letters I had lying around and glued the bride to be's name onto some toothpicks for the cake. It didn't need too much decoration, since the cake is so pretty to begin with.
My friend's house has a lovely open concept kitchen/dining/family room. Since the ceilings were so high and we didn't want to attach anything from them, we used lovely metallic pink, pearl and clear lace balloons from Party City (12 for $12, helium included) to get some height in the room.
All in all, a lovely party and my sister had a wonderful time!
Rancho Cuyamaca State Park Camping
Haven't been camping in close to 10 years, so we decided that this year is when we start making it a yearly thing....
This year - Rancho Cuyamaca State Park in Descanso, CA near San Diego. Since it was Labor Day weekend, it took us 5 hrs to get there...Ugh.
Dominik was a trooper....he's a dainty, indoor dog, but he put up with the dirt like a trooper.
This campsite was nice, with lots of shade, a firepit and a water spigot at each campsite. It did not have a grill (except for the few bars that were on one side of the firepit).
I learned that headlamps are a necessity...for walking to the bathroom at night...
Dominik was tied up all weekend...but he had the longest tie-out ever...considering it wasn't attached to anything on the other end. He's such a good boy that he never left the campsite without our permission.
Dominik patiently waits for everyone else to wake up...
All the burned trees made it look like Mordor...
Dominik always found the best shaded areas...
Morning walk, looking for wild turkeys....
Little Momo didn't feel like waking up yet...but was curious about all the ruckus outside...
YJ believes that everything tastes better cooked on camping forks...including petite brownie bites...
Dominik passed out in the tent....
All in all, it was a good trip. The drive there was too long and the weather was too hot.
Next year...camping near an ocean...
Skylanders Swap Force Birthday Party
Domi started hiking early on. Seeing how he was eventually going to be a large dog, we were going to give him lots of outdoor exercise, so that it keeps him fit and so he wouldn't drive us crazy at home. It also got him used to being off leash - which he is SO very good at!
I forget how small he really was, until I look at these old photos of Domi next to my friend's Boston Terrier...
Kai's Power Rangers Super Megaforce Party
So, my lil nephew Kai's 5th Birthday Party was this weekend, and here's all the special things we set up for his birthday!
Labeled the water & juice....
Made some simple centerpieces by printed the kids/parents heads and taping them to Power Rangers Super Megaforce figures.
Decorated a welcome sign...
Party favor bags: created sticker labels and just filled with rice krispie treats, toys, and lollipops (yes, one of the stickers was put on crooked)
Made foam swords for the treasure hunt, and as a favor for each kid to take home. These were pretty simple - 3/4" foam Polyethylene pipe insulation purchased from Home Depot. They come in 6 ft lengths, so each piece was cut into three 2 ft swords. The ends were then wrapped in duct tape for the handle. And just to spice it up, I stuck Power Ranger characters stickers on the yellow parts, like a emblem.
These 2 Power Rangers were there to entertain the kids for an hour - they were awesome! And look how much fun the kids had with the safe swords and the printed paper masks.
We took a square box and decorated it up to hold any miscellaneous items at the party - this one ended up being used to hold bags of chips.
Simple cake decoration - printed, toothpicked various characters onto the cake. We also made extra stickers, taped them to toothpicks so that each slice of cake passed out had a sticker the guests could take home.
All in all, another fun birthday!
CicLAvia 2014
Checked out CicLAvia today with my friend Nancy and her 2 boys. Kids were on wheels, adults were on foot.
I wanted to take Domi with us, but he doesn't like skateboarders.
Awesome “Odie” ears!
Domi and his siblings…they grow up so fast!
This is Domi’s fancy up-do.
Welcome to our family, Dominik Gustav Wagner Linux Lee !
This little, soon-to-be large dog, was rescued into my life on March 2010.
