HAPPY FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL AROMANTIC VISIBILITY DAY
this is how new yorkers @ mamdani
shelby's tweet on international asexuality day!!!
it's almost pride month again. what a great reminder for Please Be Normal about these people:
- aromantic people who aren't asexual.
- asexual people who aren't aromantic.
- cishet aromantic and cishet asexual people.
- aromantic men in general.
- intersex people who are trans.
- intersex people who are are cis.
- intersex people who are cistrans/tris and those who are neither.
- intersex people who are cishet.
- intersex people in general.
- nonbinary people who don't personally identify as transfem or transmasc.
- nonbinary people who don't want to be androgynous.
- cis people who use neopronouns and/or xenogenders while still feeling cis fits just fine.
- people who feel gender dysphoria or misgendered when referred to by they/them, especially after telling you not to use they/them.
PART TWO.
⚠️ Do not use they/them if talking about me to others in reblogs/comments. I have neopronouns in my pinned post ⚠️
Happy Pride 🫡 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️!
Me to my family
"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
ayyyyyy, shoutout to bunnings stocking a colour called “ace of spades” for giving me this idea
There is a racism problem in the asexual community. There is an antiblackness problem in the asexual community.
That doesn't mean the ace flag specifically represents or supports racism.
As a reminder, here's what the flag stands for:
Black: Represents asexuality as a whole. Gray: Represents the "gray area" of the spectrum, including demisexuality and gray-asexuality (experiencing attraction limitedly). White: Represents allies, partners, and non-asexual sexual identities. Purple: Represents the community, chosen because it was the primary color of the original AVEN logo.
That's it. It represents the entirety of the asexual spectrum.
This flag was chosen through multi-stage voting with the community on the original asexual platform, AVEN. This flag holds our history. Our community chose it collectively.
Some people don't like the white stripe meaning, and that's cool. For me, it means "we're a part of this world". It means coexistence.
