Roadies: Unlikely Survivors in the Music Business

It's no secret that the music industry has seen some tumultuous times. After all, record sales are down 60% since 1994.

However, over the same period, the North American live music/concert industry value increased from $1.4B to $6.2B.

While not great news for the label execs, talent scouts, and other representatives of the status quo, the real doers of the industry — the roadies "concert technicians" are regularly raking in six figures. Forget the stereotype of the tattooed wannabe rocker (but please never forget Chris Farley's performance in Wayne's World 2) and embrace the new geeks and sometimes lady geeks who make concerts happen.
