Research for Ring of Fire music / art project. “a few things really stand out in this song as really strong. first off, the contrast between the energy at the start of the song and then end is fantastic.  there's a really strong build of tension and energy, that the rap in the bridge really knocks out of the park. flute playing, very solid, really brings to life some sections that otherwise might've been a bit dull and adds a lot of the unique flavour of this song.  the recording itself sounds really great too, very well put together particularly with balancing the drum kit with some rather soft instrumentation.  it'd be very easy for that balance to be way off but the production is pretty solid imo.  i suppose now is also a good time to talk about the rapping section and here, i have a second confession; i haven't actually reviewed any raps on this newsletter before, or like, anywhere else.  so what makes good rap? fuck if i know lol, i'm not an expert. i do know what i like tho, and this has in spades.  for example, i like raps that really fit in with the music y'know? like something with triplets and a slow delivery wouldn't be appropriate, but this on the other hand, with it's smooth and fast delivery, does a really good job of elevating this song.”

Dass die neugierige Pandora den Deckel der Büchse gelupft, und damit jede Menge Mühen, Übel und Schmerzen in die Welt gesetzt hat, das kennt man aus der griechischen Mythologie. Dass sie auch Tagebuch geschrieben hat, das ist neu und konnte am Donnerstagabend im KiK von einem ansehnlich großen und wiederum auch recht neugierigen Kreis von Folkfans entdeckt werden. Sarah Kate Michel und Maya Curry heißen die beiden jungen Frauen aus London, die sich als Singer/Songwriter-Duo den Namen Pandorasdiary gegeben haben, um den Inhalt von Pandoras Büchse in Lyrics und Noten zu übersetzen. Dass das Mühselige und Üble nicht im Zentrum des Geschehens steht, dafür haben die beiden, die erst kurz vor dem Konzert aus dem Flieger gestiegenen waren, gesorgt: Sarah Kate, als Gitarristin und Sängerin einfallsreich und ausdrucksstark, fällt zwischen den Songs durch ihr sonores Lachen auf, mit dem sie sofort Nähe zum Publikum schafft, es ansteckt mit diesem unbeschwerten Mädchenkichern, das wie ein Gummiball die Stufen der Tonleiter rauf und runter hüpft. Verträumte Klänge und gute Laune Maya Curry betont ihre Westküstenwurzeln durch Blumen im Haar und Flower-Power-Strahlen auf dem Gesicht, fliegt mit ihrer Querflöte luftig-leichte Kapriolen oder gibt pastellig-zarte Hintergrundfarbe zu den Songs. Das Material, das das Duo mitgebracht hat, ist ein interessanter Mix: verträumte Klänge und Aufwachromantik beim Stück "Wake Up". Nur wenig später nimmt Sarah Kate das Publikum an die Hand, um es in die quirlig-lebendige Szenerie der Straßenmusikanten in Indonesien mitzunehmen, zu der sie selbst eine Zeit lang gehört hat: "Ei lei lei lei. . . ", das macht Laune, lädt zum Mitsingen ein, und säße man nicht in tiefen Sesseln – man würde doch glatt aufstehen und tanzen.
