Love character relationships that can only be described as "whatever the fuck these two have going on"
"Preparing [for the role of Nikki] was really fun. We got to watch a lot of fun movies, and kind of pick and choose, like a puzzle, what we wanted in the film. Moments that we took inspiration from, and made them our own." — Inde Navarrette for Fandango "We watched Get Out, and focused on a lot of the moments where characters are showing an emotion underneath but saying something completely different [on the surface], and how horrific that is. There's a scene where [Nikki] is saying, "no", and there is a [similar] scene in Get Out [which we took inspiration from]." — Inde Navarrette for A Shot Magazine Obsession (2026) Dir. Curry Barker Get Out (2017) Dir. Jordan Peele
this is a moment in the original script that I wish they'd kept in the final version of obsession. the absolute disgusting way that real nikki appearing just becomes routine for bear and he completely ignores her in order to keep her. it's so horrifying the way her torment turns into something he hardly acknowledges
I think the scene where she asks him to kill her also would’ve made more sense if they kept this, he seems so unbothered, mildly annoyed even, if they would’ve kept this, kept real Nikki kind of popping in & out some so Bear seeming so, undeterred, like this is normal, like this is a everyday occurrence
it would’ve made more sense, & it would’ve hit a lot harder in some ways, shown how awful Bear truly is
I disagree just because i think there's enough scenes to establish that he doesn't give a shit about nikki, and because to anyone who can see what's going on, more sexual violence isn't necessary, it's already terrifying the way he acts from the cafe date scene and on.
The scene where she asks him to kill her does hit hard especially because to us he gets a chance there to say "oh my god this is actually real and nikki is trapped in there and i need to do something" but he actively chooses to ignore her, which is a chilling reveal that he must have known for a while before that (we can assume he knows somethings off after the cafe date so from then he takes advantage of her, but its still too early for him to believe in actual magic). You probably already hate him by the scene of her sleep talking, but this is the point of no return and it wouldn't work as well if we already saw him ignore her pleas earlier. And that scene is so so good, so im glad they have that instead of the longer rape scene.
You wished for this

Rest in peace Akihiro Miwa (1935-2026)
I haven't seen anyone talking about this and just wanted to make a quick post on here.
Akihiro Miwa recently passed away peacefully june 20th, and was not only a drag queen and a queer icon, but also the japanese voice of Arceus in the movie Arceus and the jewel of life, as well as the witch from Howl's moving castle and Moro from Princess Mononke.
Rest in peace and thank you for the wonderfull impact you made in this world.
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Shakespeare is like this
Every time I see a Van Gogh that’s not one of his better known pieces it absolutely blows me away
Have you seen this shit my liege? smh unreal
