using the chat between you and the lads men as a to-do list
xavier is perplexed to say the least. why are you sending “eggs, tissue roll, milk” in your chat box? won’t bother asking, he’s sending his own list too, “bacon, wipes, cereal.” looks like he’s joining you for the quick grocery run.
rafayel finds it endearing that you’d think of him in the most mundane tasks, because even with just the list “buy bread, feed the birds at the beach, get mail,” he knows it’s your own way of telling him to accompany you. and he’s already on his way. after teasing you of course.
zayne gets off a grueling surgery and the first thing he sees in your chat is “bills to pay: internet, water, data subscription.” his face falls in resignation then replies with, “someone made me into a sticky note.” you only reply with a laughing sticker followed by an updated list, “bills to pay: internet ✅, water, data subscription.” before you can even proceed with the other payments, you received notifications that everything else has been settled.
caleb’s face immediately lights up. yeah you only replied to him after your three-hour nap, and the message was just “make quick dinner, read latest reports, movie” but he doesn’t care, he’s already replying to you that he’s taking care of it. except for the second part, of course, but he’s scanning through it too so you could rely on him when you’re sick of reading.
sylus is insufferable. you were just sending “pay rent, message landlord of the faucet leaks, get new shoes,” and he’s already threatening to buy the entire building. and the mall. and the plumbing company. it took you an hour of convincing him to not even push through with his threats, to no avail. you had to resort to accusing him of money laundering (doesn’t work). he only raised his arms in defeat when you told him you won’t kiss him anymore.
shoutout to my bestfriend for telling me “made me into a sticky note” when i sent him my bills to pay. u inspired me to do this silly thing LOL
Enough small talk. Are you going to come to the bog with me for undisclosed reasons or what
One of my favorite tropes is character with a nasty toxic personality who tries very hard to do the right thing anyway
I like my protagonists sad, tired, bitter, fully convinced they will never get the recognition they deserve, but they still gotta get up in the morning and be a good person
*crawling through the dirt bleeding out* boobs... i need to see.. boobs..
idk who needs to hear this but if you have been putting something off bc it doesn't need to be done until the end of the month. we are almost done with the teens we are approaching the big numbers (the twenties). that date shall dawn upon you swiftly and without mercy before you know it. psa for everyone except me i got plany off time
love wins
i can’t stand “it’s not that deep” attitudes like even if it really really isn’t that deep just PLAY WITH ME. just fucking PLAY. have a meaningless but deep analytical conversation with me. just like think about shit for fun. does anyone else like to think about stuff for fun. it’s so lonely
watching my promised afternoon thunderstorm slip from a 90% chance to a 20% chance.... baby come back i can change
Listen you either laugh at the weird shit I say and we make out or you just don’t get it and we don’t make out, dealer’s choice.
the two fundamental truths of historical and contemporary mankind:
we were just as smart then as we are now
we are just as stupid now as we were then

Pride and Prejudice 2005 ☼ dir. Joe Wright
Mr. Bennet: Sure, I haven't taken care of my daughters' financial security, but have I at least taken care of their education? No. But have I taken care of their emotional needs? Also no. But have I been a good protector and supervisor? I'm afraid not. However, have I been a good example for my children of being a kind and respectful spouse, parent, and all around human being? No again. But through it all, have I nailed being funny? Yes. And isn't that the most important role of a father after all?
Actually, I know damn well Darcy never sat down and thought about marrying Lizzie. If he had, it would have been a week before he was rounding up Bingley, sitting him down, and looking him in the eye like he was about to propose high treason and going, "Jane. You still down bad for her?"
Coin toss whether Bingley would actually get to answer before Darcy turned around and flipped over a whiteboard like
and launched right into the most detailed migration pattern known to Regency England to keep the extraneous Bennets as contained as humanly possible by rotating them between various Bingley/Darcy estates. Like, we're talking about trading them off for minor holidays a decade out kind of detailed.
"If you and Jane take them for Lady Day ten years hence, Elizabeth and I will take them for Michaelmas. We'll all be together for Christmas and Midsummer, so we'll divide the responsibility individually on those days."
This would be followed by thirteen different spreadsheets projecting joint expenditures so Bingley knows what sort of financial commitment he'll be shouldering and how to minimize it, what proportion Darcy will take care of, what the estate plans are in case Darcy predeceases anybody, when they should probably roll out various stages to keep it from affecting their respective sisters' ability to maximize their own husband-hunting--whole nine yards.
Darcy does not know that he'll probably be murdered when the Bingley sisters find out why he asked for their social calendars. He'd be marginally fine with that at this point, because the fucking Napoleonic War campaigns were not as meticulously planned as his roadmap to getting the other three Bennets satisfactorily married, and Darcy feels about as able as if he'd spent the last year on Elba.
It takes Bingley a few minutes to realize why this is happening, then he's like
"You proposed to Elizabeth?! Congratulations!"
Darcy... knew there was something he was forgetting.
That man would have kicked the Collins's door open with four binders tucked under each arm, dumped them in a pile in front of Elizabeth, and loudly announced that if they get married tomorrow he can have her entire family except for Jane extraordinary renditioned to the Scottish moors by Sunday and then been like
"Why are you yelling at me?! I promise you, it will work! You'll never see anyone in your family except for Jane again, I swear it!" when she starts yelling at him.
i think all quiet on the western front and the lord of the rings are in direct conversation with each other, as in theyre the retelling of the same war with one saying here’s what happened, we all died, and it did not matter at all and another going hush little boy, of course we won, of course your friends came back
someone should remake lord of the rings as a grandfather telling a fantasy story to his grand child with flashbacks to world war one showing the dead boys and men the characters were based on. grandpa why didn’t they just fly. because they didn’t. they didn’t.
i’m fine
I will never get over how Tolkien & Lewis took the horrors of war and spun them into fantasy.
Shivering in the trenches dreaming of cozy hobbit holes, shaking as bombs pockmark a forest and imagining each shallow mud-filled crater contains a new world—that maybe there are still as many beautiful things in the universe as there are bombs—that maybe the world is bigger than this moment and this ugliness and one day this will be a peaceful forest again full of small ponds.
I mean look at these photos of the shell craters in Sanctuary Woods, near Ypres Belgium and tell me it’s not the Wood Between The Worlds:
…oh.
@ricardian-werewolf FINALLY A POST ABOUT WW1 THAT YOU DIDNT DIRECTLY PLACE ON MY DASH! I CAN SHARE IT WITH YOU!
Y'all…
The AMOUNT of academic papers written revolving around Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson’s movie interpretations, World War I and it’s events/aftermath/etc., and the cross-comparison between them that I have currently in my office is MASSIVE.
No lie, this is a HUGE area of study and if you’ve thought that those things feel in line, then you aren’t the only one.
One of my favorites is by an Irish historian who makes a very compelling argument (based on WWI, Post-War art, and Tolkein’s own writings/letters/journals/etc.) that by rooting for the Hobbits, we’re rooting for the continuation of the British Empire, and that Sauron is representative of the “Machine Age” (aka modernity).
Whether you agree or not, a really fascinating argument. Layer in specific national memories and perspectives (the Irish, Belgians, ANZACs, etc.) and it becomes EVEN MORE fascinating.
Seriously, if you’ve never wandered down this JSTOR ( @jstor ) rabbit hole, then you absolutely should! It’s SO much fun ♥️
