GSTEP005 // Crypticz "Contact EP" [out now]

To kick off the new year we are adding to the GiraffeStep series with a release by SW England’s Crypticz. To follow suite with DIFF005, we’re dropping it as an extended player. Four track’s built up over the past year compiled, mixed and mastered into the “Contact EP”.

‘Get Back’ sets the mood off sonically, with some almost dubstep groove thrown in along with Crypticz’s footwork influences. ‘We A Dem’ is the closest this EP gets to the dancefloor with it’s bass driven pulse groove and cheeky acapella chops. The third track is a collaboration, ‘Shift’ with Lakeway (who’s got some music lined up later on this year with the label) ­ shows off a seriously stripped back skeleton with moody bass, vocals and atmospherics. The EP is closed down with a lazy melodic and bassy number called ‘Promise’ (totally late night vibes on this one!)

Kolectiv come with their first individual release for Diffrent Music after their track "Slow" which featured on the 'Evolution Of The Giraffe' LP last year. This EP shows off the London based trio's versatility in sound, with two new solo pieces which are both worlds apart from one another and a pair of collaborations with Dexta & Mauoq which explore two slightly different area's of the Drum & Bass world. The 'Immortalis EP' is being released as a digital package and a very limited edition CD run with handmade packaging and two 'CD only' exclusive tracks.

Incoming: Andy Pain & Z-Connection "Take It / Horizon"

In just a matter of weeks, we will be unleashing the amazing work of the russian duo Andy Pain & Z-Connection, but this time as you've never seen/heard them before.  Not only are these two artists with a prolific back catalogue including a studio album and several innovative singles across a host of D&B labels; this time they come together with something a little out of the ordinary for the duo. Two artists, one track each, both way outside the box style wise.

Andy Pain switches his game up totally with 'Take It' which could almost be mistaken for glitch-hop, the funky bass and swinging drums all come together with tuned atmospherics, vocal snippets and melodic parts that make the tune so very 'Diffrent'. The flip side; "Horizon" see's Igor's last solo effort under the name Z-Connection. Hyperactive, energetic and experimental drum patterns fuse with the juke influenced grooves and vocals that sound both very like and nothing like any of his previous work. All in all this release has worked very well both on and offline, in the clubs and at home on the hi-fi. This is the kind of music that giraffes like to live off, soulful, random and experimental to say the very least.

Full official release date is Monday 6th October, but is available for pre-order now from the Diffrent Music BandCamp store, and all orders will be available from the 29th September, so get in there!

Kolectiv announce new EP on Diffrent Music

Next up on Diffrent, we're really proud to announce that Kolectiv have been in the studio putting together a four track EP with the long awaited 'Immortalis', a brand new unheard track called 'Sleeper Cell' and a couple of collaborations with Dexta (Make Me) & Mauoq (Killer Instinct). The EP is off to production next week and you can expect release to be late October / early november.

Clima, Diffrent’s second brotherly duo, this time hailing from eastern Spain, Zaragoza to be precise drop their debut single with Diffrent Music on the brand new GiraffeStep series. The duo supplied us with pair of highly contrasting tracks that very much fitted the label’s ethos.

“Dub Life” is a real 4x4 giraffe marching track with plenty of Dub culture reference, it’s their own take on real dark dub at 170bpm. The flip side, a million worlds apart, “Innersoul” is a half time 170 dreamy piece of music that could see you through the late hours, calmly bring you into a state of trance with absolutely no effort. Expect to see these guys returning with more giraffe work in the not too distant future, and keep your eyes open for their name as it seems to be popping up from all angles at the moment!

Keeping the collective family vibe more than alive, Arkaik has rounded his troops up and put together his third EP for release on his homeland Diffrent Music. Paving the way forward for future releases on the label, we see

a record that show’s off Arkaik’s ability to maintain his exploration as a solo artist while adapting to the modern day art of collaborative production. ‘The Hustle EP’ features four brand new pieces of work that have been heard only a number of times on dancefloors around the UK, and are ready to go out to the masses. The title track is a offbeat stomper with Arkaik’s trademark sound, while ‘Babylon Dub’ see’s a more Hip­Hop orientated style with big bass and clean production. ‘Heat Seeker’ is the second collaboration to surface with Coma, and is a heavy hitting, fast paced dancefloor damager. The final track see’s Arkaik teaming up with Dexta & Mauoq, with a stripped back, big bass, head­nod track called ‘One Last Time’ which develops from a somewhat half time groove into full on 2­step second drop.

The Hustle EP will be released as a limited edition CD available exclusively from 12th May 2014 via the Diffrent Music HQ store (www.shop.diffrentmusic.com). Digital pre­orders from the Diffrent HQ shop will be delivered from 19th May 2014 and the full worldwide ‘official’ release date will be Monday 26th May 2014 on all good digital outlets.
