who am i? intro post
hello internet, my name is scott i'm something of a digital anthropologist. i was an early adopter of the internet and digital culture. i've been online since 1992 at the latest, when my family got our first home pc i instantly loved the internet because its where all the weirdo nerds like me were! i was in college to get my doctorate in digital anthropology but in 2021, i got delta covid, and while intubated i had a stroke. unfortunately due to pretty bad brain damage it doesnt look like my doctorate dreams will come true but that doesnt mean i cant do semi trained digital anthropology! like maaaybe i wont be classifying all conspiracy theories into a motif index similar to how folklore is categorized but what i can, and plan on doing with this project is to do a sort of broad strokes review of each week's big conspiracy theories there's a looot happening in conspiracy spaces currently and many of them are rinse wash repeats of the same theories that were online in the 1990s i'm going to review the bigger ones with the most relevance to current events look at the history of the conspiracy theory if its a repeat one, and analyze it i'm not going to be mean about it but most of these theories are based on overactive pattern recognition and apophenia plus a general distrust of the government the corporations and the o;ligarchs in charge of our lives i'm going to do my best to provide lots of links and safer sources as possible because when you go into #conspiracy spaces its too easy to get into conspiracy minded thinking which years ago we used to call conspiracy psychosis in the skeptic community i am not a psychologist or anything but some bozop on the internet with academic training in cultural anthropology, archaeology and folklore but due to my stroke, i do not have a degree so let it be said i am not an expert! just a nerd who went to college, that covid had alternate plans for and i mean to make the best of my circumstances! enjoy! this saturday 11 october i plan on doing conspiracy theory roundup number one!and i plan to do so every saturdayuntil the world ends or we run out of material lol;)
