Faux leather was the worst thing ever created

Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
as much as everyone loves "the power of love won't save us, we need the power of incredible violence" i'm sorry to rain on your parade but we've actually tried that about ten million times as a species, and you'll be shocked to hear the power of incredible violence, without the power of love behind it, is just brutality. the power of incredible violence has been ruling (various parts of, and then the entire) world for the past 5,000 years. ours is not that damn special.
like yes use that gun you found but WHY are you using it? on who are you using it? what would make you stop using it? is your goal to live in a world where every problem is solved by violence, or is your goal to do the violence necessary to live in a world where that necessity is unthinkable?
Oh, to be a tiny mermaid to escape the heat

this is possibly more of an editing thing than a writing thing but I do like it when you start off with a paragraph or a sentence and you realise you can actually lop off whole bits and pieces of it and still have the intended meaning be carried by implication. that's not to say that being particularly descriptive is bad - if anything, with this approach, it means that adding extra description provides more emphasis due to the contrast of it all. you can use so few words to get your meaning across that when you choose to buckle down and spell it all out, that's because you choose to. that's how I'd like to write like, at least
Rain, New Year's Eve
by Maggie Smith
The rain is a broken piano, playing the same note over and over.
My five-year-old said that. Already she knows loving the world
means loving the wobbles you can’t shim, the creaks you can’t
oil silent — the jerry-rigged parts, MacGyvered with twine and chewing gum.
Let me love the cold rain’s plinking. Let me love the world the way I love
my young son, not only when he cups my face in his sticky hands,
but when, roughhousing, he accidentally splits my lip.
Let me love the world like a mother. Let me be tender when it lets me down.
Let me listen to the rain’s one note and hear a beginner’s song.
