Fellow yarn makers! What do you make out of your yarns you only made small amounts of? (50-100grams or even less)

I am, thanks to a wool calendar and magpie shopping of random fibres, amassing yarns of small quantities each. At the moment they are more isolation than craft material x'D

And, you know, the beginner yarns, the not thought through ones, the artsy ones, the ones you just went wonky with because you want the experience rather than material, the ones you tried something new and don'twant to do again.

Day 11 Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) 80 superfine merino & 20 mulberry silk

Spun lovely, colourway such wait what I just thought. Let's. Let's just 2-ply it up into craziness when it is such diffs in it anyway. Im soooo curious what it'll look like once I've figured how to knit it x'D

Day 8 Toadlily (Tricyrtis hirta) Cormo & tweed wool

Rough to handle, but not at all as scratchy as yarn as I feared! The shrinkage post-wash-treament surprised me, buuut I enjoy the sproing it gives so much so that I've kept some of the methods I used :'3

Fibre from day 2 of the advent calendar! Prep for 2-ply with somewhat hopefully a bit of colour pooling. The roving broken down into more or less sections of colour, drafted and then broken into two equal-isg pieces and matched up in two rows side by side, then arranging them into smth i hope will be good x3 weigh to make sure they are similar weight (two 25gram piles) and packed into the box I've found being a very good size for 50g of prepped wool ^^

....now on to slowly spin it up, as my poor ol' knees have been opiniated on the amount I've spun lately, combined with my walking&standing job with bicycling commute x'D

Rainy cloudy seaside day is what the colourway remind me of. 2-ply, with way less distinction between colours than I had hoped to achieve ^^; almost, but only almost, regretting not chain-ply. Somehow I spun it thin? So, chain would been such tedium.

Spring is here! Dragged the wheel out the balcony, string obsessed cat an unfortunate bonus, and goodness me. Angelina gold glitter in the fibre is. In the spring sunlight. Wow :')

Destashing! The bag have been in the basement forever, added those yarns, and donated the loft ot it to local charity. Stuff out of the house! It honestly a relief.

Organise! Sorted through this sorry mess! All untangled, rewound (rewinded??), sorted through, and odds and ends thrown away. A stash isnt a stash if you will never get amth from it because it is just a nest of knots x'D

So uh. This exists thanks to to the quite nice fibre arts bingo (made by @2026-fiber-arts-bingo check it out for a more oooh yeah so much fun! and less shame on your past crafting habits bingo ;3) which i look forward to. Buuuuut. Well.... uh... You see, there are those piles I need inspiration to get through. A bingo that inspires me to have a go at a whole heap of fun new things?

I need something to balance it out.

Made this mostly for myself to make working through stash and WIPs seem more shiny through the upcoming year, but anyone is welcome to join in :D

I don’t like specific lists of things to accomplish in a year so I don’t vibe with make9s or long term project planning BUT I do love checking off squares and marking off things I did so I’m trying bingo.

No specific patterns or designs, theoretically fiber craft agnostic, hopefully a good mix of being encouraged to try new things without being overly prescriptive about it.

....why would I spin bfl this thin???? Who knows, I dont, I started without proper intentions and hey, thin single!! T.T

Ok but thanks to this yarn, I've now realised winding it from the weel/spindle unto the niddynoddy is NOT the same as having the measure of the yarn x'D

This yarn was wound on my small niddynoddy, 70 laps of 1m, pre wash. This is the yarn post wash. It shrank about 15, FIFTEEN, %!? It isnt 70 metres anymore, it is 70 laps × 85 cm = 59.5 metres.

I was not prepared x'D

Possibly a combo of all possible parameters. Fibre type (cormo wool with tweed nubs), how I spun (whatever felt fine with low lvl thin n thick), and post treatment (hot hot water gentle squeeze, short cold dip, soak 30min in hot water before hand centrifuging it, dry flat and losing patience, so, blow dry the last with hair blow dryer. If the blow dryer was a factor I'm going to be way more liberal with it because THE SPROINGINESS is soooooo fun :'3 the whole _skein_ together is more sproingy than single strands from most my yarn. Although. The cormo wool likely is big part. So.)

I've tried separatingish into colours and weighed out two 25g similarish order. Sooo... I'll finally 2-ply, and can more easily move the singles somewhere else before that. What with. The single bobbin.

We shall see what happens x'3

Geum pretticoats peach. Silk and merino, unknown ratio.

12wpi and 130m/52g (250m/100g) if I got it correctly.

Progress of calendar day #9 wool. Just let the thread run without much of a plan other than let the wheel speed lead, and separate the roving into more ombre colours.

The pause setup makes me happy, not i just have to cover it with a grocery bag so that the white cat doesnt turn it into forbidden spaghetti.

...apparently when I began spinning this, I spun it fairly differently from what I did toward the end x'D

....doesn't help the wheel is so small and I have only one whorl and only one bobbin with small diameter where the driving rope goes and still struggle slightly to make it run smooth x'p soooo, it spins faster than I'd like. Oh, and the flu made my shoulder unusable for spinning for two weeks so I had forgotten what I was even trying out 🤔 It is about time I got myself some note taking and some sort of comparison card for thickness/twist, so that I end up with less happy go lucky surprise time.

Anyway, I have much more left of this fibre, but the bobbin filled up decently and I want to try other things out. Including see if I can somehow pad up the whorl or bobbin whorl to slow the flyer down. At least the treadle seems well fit in now, I can keep it going for a good while, so it seems I adjusted and assembled it acceptably :D
