For combination (dry &oily) and acne prone skin
As a teenager, I discovered many things about myself. One of which is that my skin is prone to acne (whiteheads, blackheads, pimples) and that my t-zone are producing excess oil. I've had my first breakout when I was when I was in high school; it was after some street presentation that I was in. I suspected that I got those pimples from the brushes that the makeup artist used, not only onto my face but to my co-dancers as well. Then, starting from that awful incident, I tend to have breakouts every now and then. That's why I always get swayed by influencers, bloggers, vloggers & beauty gurus to try the product that they use that might work for my skin condition. But it didn’t really work well because it was not good for my skin type. My pimples started to disappear when I fed my skin with the nutrients from fruits and vegetables. I used tomato + calamansi juice as a toner, papaya as a mask and coffee granules to exfoliate my skin. But now that I don't have much time to make them, I decided to give drugstore skin care products a shot again; from there, I change my skin care routine every two to three months, depending on how effective the products are. If I found a product that works well on my skin, I usually don't change it anymore because I'm a creature of habit.
Now, I will share my updated and most recent skin care routine that's inspired of the infamous Korean 10+-step face care regimen.
You SHOULD & always use make-up removers. It will remove the products that you used throughout the day that can't be removed by just washing your face; especially your eye makeup. Try to sleep with make-up on and you'll have breakout when you wake up in the morning, you would not want that to happen right? So remove them products first, then go to the washroom and you'll have less dirt to remove from your face.
Usupso Refreshing Cleansing Mild Water
For this step, I use cleansing mild water from Usupso. This product does its job pretty well and it has that fragrant smell of it that I love. If you have an acne prone skin, chances are, your skin is super sensitive, so it's really important to use mild cleansers.
I double cleanse at the moment because I think that cleaning your skin is the most important part in your routine. I usually use soap first, and then use a foam cleanser to clean the face thoroughly. Double cleansing can help to clean those clogged pores that you have in your face.
Seoul White Korea Whitening Soap
I just started using this product and I can see the changes it gives to my skin. My acne scars are starting to lighten and I can really feel that my pores are a bit tighter plus, it removes the oil from my skin giving me that squeaky clean moisturized feeling after using the product. This soap is kinds big in size so I cut it into half; used the other half onto my face and the other one, to my body. It contains Bearberry, Arbutin, White /strawberry and donkey milk. Bearberry has anti-aging benefits; its extracts lighten the skin using its high levels of arbutin. Arbutin on the other hand, is a natural skin lightening/whitening agent. It also reduces the skin's melanin (pigmentation) production. White strawberry brings a soft, white oil-free glow to the skin. It also helps in banishing acne and lightening pimple marks. Apart from vitamin C, it also contains folate, vitamin A, fiber and antioxidants. Lastly, the Donkey milk in it has four times the amount of vitamin C than cow's milk. The many vitamins, proteins, minerals, and essential fatty acids make this ingredient a potent and effective one for your skin. It's hydrating and brightening, and it's believed to help with eczema, acne, and psoriasis.
Ponds Clear Solutions Antibac + Clarity
After washing my face with soap, I use this facial foam from ponds for deep cleansing and to remove that excess gunk in my face. It removes pimple-causing impurities and has oil Absorbing Herbal Clay that removes excess oil and helps clear impurities from your skin's surface. It really removes all the dirt from my face cause I can instantly feel that all the excess oil has been removed, and you' also get that squeaky clean feeling. I've been using this product ever since and I'm not planning to change it so far because I think that this product really works well on my skin.
Toners are supposed to visibly reduce the appearance of pores, balance pH level, remove dead skin cells, and prevent clogged pores to smoothen skin texture. It's also said to have antibacterial factors that interfere with the growth and reproduction of bacteria. It has extra pore-tightening and clarifying benefits. The clarifying solution exfoliates, controls excess oil, and refines pores without over drying.
Snow Pore Minimizer Toner
This product gives you that cooling effect that might be too strong for you, so I suggest that you just use this product by pouring some of it into your palm and carefully press it onto your skin. This technique is more effective than just using a cotton pad to apply it on your skin plus, using cotton pads gives you that super strong tingling sensation that most of you would not like especially if you have a sensitive skin.
To sooth my skin from the toner that I used, i like to use this Loofah Moisturizing Soothing Water that I got from Usupso. It relaxes your skin and hydrates it. Lately I've been into hydrating products 'cause my skin tends to dry up (except for my t-zone area) that's why I kind of splurged on them products that are hydrating that gives your skin a nice amount of moisture.
Lately I've been watching Korean skin care routine (10-step skincare routine you've heard of it, yes?) and from there, I started to use an essence. So, what exactly is an essence? Paula Begoun, founder of Paula’s Choice, puts it like this: “Essences vary from country to country and brand to brand, but generally speaking they have thin, lightweight, fluid textures – often like a milky toner – that supply skin with antioxidants, soothing agents, and a variety of repairing and anti-aging ingredients.”Essence basically adds another layer of hydration to your skin. Essences makes your skin the perfect environment for the rest of your skin care routine to work effectively. It should be applied to your skin after toner and before using a serum and moisturizer. For this step, I'm currently using Cathydoll gold splash essence with bee venom.
Cathydoll Gold Splash Essence with Bee Venom
This product really does its job pretty well. And to be honest, I am surprised how effective it is given that this sachet version retails for only 49.50 pesos. The texture of this gold splash essence is like a silicon gel moisturizer that turns into a liquid-like consistency. After applying it in circular motion, you will see some fine gold grains that are almost invisible but will disappear after the essence has been absorbed by your skin. The water-like texture of Cathydoll Gold Splash Essence allows it to penetrate through surface layers. The result? Smoother, more supple skin in an instant.
iWhite Korea Aqua Moisturizer
Personally, I'm not a big fan of moisturizers cause I don't like the sticky feeling that I get after applying it to my face. Though moisturizers contribute a lot on boosting your skin's hydration and moisture, I just don't like that it feels oily. But! But when I discovered this little baby right here, I just can't stop using it :(( it is soooo addicting to use coz it's water base and I just said that I'm into hydrating products and that I've been splurging on them a lot lately.
6. Sunblock (for morning routine)
This product is just a new discovery. My OG sunblock/primer was the iWhite Facial Cream Whitening Vita. Cathydoll's Whitening sunscreen is a magic cream that instantly brightens your skin after usage. But I'm not convinced because I kind of compared it to the previous product that I've been using a lot which was the facial cream whitening vita of iWhite Korea. Though this product is a little hard to blend and it doesn't really give me the bright skin that I want to achieve, it gives me that cooling effect which I suuuuper love.
6. Whitening Cream (for night routine)
Creams or night creams heals the dry parts of your face overnight. By doing this step, your face is kept hydrated. It also ensures that your skin has an even complexion along with having a finer skin texture. A night cream can double the skin's moisture and support anti-aging benefits. Night creams won't be absorbed by your skin as quickly as most day lotions, and they're usually much richer in texture.
Seoul White Korea Instant White Tone-Up Whitening Cream
This product has the benefits of the soap that I use before using foam cleanser that I mentioned above. This cream is a day cream, you use this to lighten your skin's complexion but who says I can't use it at night? I believe that it works even better if you don't use it under the harsh light of the sun. Every time I use this at night, I notice that my skin looks really good after waking up the next day in the morning that's why I decided to just use this before sleeping for the reason that I have so much daycreams that I still haven't use.
7. Masks(for night routine)
I use masks twice or thrice a week if I'm feeling a little extra or if I've had a rough day. Masks can help in boosting your skin's hydration and supplies moisture to the dry parts of your face. You can also use this everyday if you have many supplies of mask! :)
8. Creams/Sleeping Masks(for night routine)
Olay Natural White All In One FairnessI originally use the whitening serum of garnier but I can't find it in stores so I just settled for this one for the mean time. I got problematic of my acne marks and dark spots because they got really dark (2 shades darker!) after the treatment that I had from the derma clinic that's why I only apply this only to the those dark marks and it did really helped them to lighten.
Missha Pure Source Pocket Pack
This product from Missha is a sleeping mask and I use this after using a sheet mask. Every Pocket pack has it's own benefit and I have them in Lemon which is for vitality and radiance , Tea tree for fresh & clear skin, Green Tea for relaxing & extra moisture, Pearl for extra brightening, Honey for extra elasticity, and Shea Butter for deep moisture.
9. BB Cream (for morning routine)
This is just optional, I only use this when I have enough time and if I feel like it. But I usually just use a sunscreen, concealer, mascara, lip tint then I'm all set & ready to go.
This is the last step of my skin care routine. I just basically spray this all over my face and I'm done :)By the way, this is a Rose Spray from Usupso, would highly recommend this coz this is my dupe to Mario Badescu's Rose Water Spray and it's super cheap, bought it for only 189 pesos :)
