"Nobody knows the trouble Iâve seen. Nobody knows my sorrow."
"You kept both quite good to yourself." They were taking one of their mutual walks at night, admiring the starry sky above them but the mood had turned rather somber pretty quickly. Gasping the youngerâs shoulder, the counselor gently moved him over to a bench and settled next to him.
"I know that being my assistant is causing you much delight, but you are blocking yourself, arenât you? You know there is nothing I will probably not find out on my own." It was meant to be both honest and somewhat jesting.
He was half serious.
"I truly want you to keep the position. I can work with you but you are not making it easy for me if you keep secrets."
Everything had happened so fast and it had soon become too much to bear, too much to handle, just...too much. DĂnellon had been perfectly fine when he had not let anyone near him nor let anyone help him. It had been best not to confide in anyone, because in all truth it was the only way to keep emotion at bay. And without emotion, no accidents could happen. He'd have time to think and choose the right course of action rather than ruining it all.
What was overwhelming in his current situation, was his growing fondness towards his employer. Erestor seemed to understand and it was the very thing that made him a dangerous acquaintance. DĂnellon noticed he had started to slip. He talked more and he felt more. There was...trust between them. Chemistry.
"Of course I am blocking myself. I-..." He bit his lip and turned his eyes away. "You are the first one to see that." In truth DĂnellon had already thought of leaving. All it took was to collect his belongings, leave before the first rays of sunlight hit the valley and disappear. But then...an idea. Perhaps he could mislead the counselor? Make him seek things that had nothing to do with who DĂnellon was now but instead make the other look into who the ellon used to be? That could work.
"...you have a vast library. I am sure you...you will find what you seek there. About me as well. Try the healing section." If anywhere, one of his father's books must have found its way to Erestor's library. Idhrendir, the great healer of the mind, soother of sorrows and listener of the troubled and lonely.
