I am so tired of seeing this argument. Let me give you some examples, when someone like Stephen King writes about murders, how does he write about them? HE WRITES THEM AS IF THEY WERE HORRIFIC AND AWFUL THINGS TO HAPPEN. He doesn’t romanticize it. Now when someone like E.L.James writes 50 Shades (a book about a clearly abusive relationship) she romanticizes it. She treats it as if it was this wonderful and beautiful romance even though it clearly isn’t.

Same thing goes for shipping. Shippers always pull the “well x writes about murder/drugs/etc. does that mean they are evil people who support these! dumb anti’s!!” No. Writing about murder or drugs or abuse does not mean you excuse it or condone it, if you don’t romanticize it and write about it with respect then that doesn’t mean you condone this stuff, HOWEVER, you gloss over it, romanticize it, glorify it, and basically act as if it’s not big deal and not a bad thing, then guess what? You do condone this stuff.

No onto the other dumb argument “you anti’s can’t tell the difference between fiction and reality! fiction has no effect on reality silly anti’s” Hey, remember when Jaws came out and shark deaths have been on the rise because people were killing them and how everyone is scared of sharks because of shark movies like Jaws? That is fiction effecting reality. Oh hey, do you remember when movies like The Avengers or Spider-Man came out and kids would dress up and act out as their favorite superheroes? That is also fiction effecting reality. Oh I know, remember when 50 Shades came out and abusive relationships started to rise and injuries related to incorrect BDSM practices also started to rise? Also fiction effecting reality.

Also shippers a big hypocrites. So they say “fiction doesn’t effect reality” but then they turn around and say “there needs to be more POC in movies and shows! they need to stop whitewashing these characters! we need more gay representation because fiction can have such a huge impact!” Hmm. So fiction does effect reality when it comes to adding more POC and LGBT characters in media because it can give hope and inspire to young POC/and or LGBT kids but fiction somehow doesn’t effect reality when it comes to your nasty ships.

Fiction has an impact on reality and if you write about murder/abuse/drugs/etc. it doesn’t mean you are a bad person who condones it but if you write about it in a glorifying way or act as if it’s no big deal then yes, you do condone it.
