My parents are both named Terry (spelled differently) but I’m pretty sure that’s one of the reasons my mom never changed her last name.

People would call and ask for Terry and child me would be like “boy or girl?” And they’d panic and hang up. My mom found this endlessly amusing.

There was a period for me when both my wife and my girlfriend had the same first name, and I had the same first name as one of my wife’s co-workers. Which is not quite the same thing but did still require disambiguation.

I also worked, for a time, at the same place as three lesbians who had all taken the same last name and all had the same first name. They got around this by using different diminutives of that first name in casual conversation.
