A tour inside the final installation showing the experience that the observer gets when exploring the space.
Completed installation
Taping the ceiling
Creating the illusion of a 3D object
Using a projector I am projecting images of 3D objects on carefully picked places. My plan was to create this illusion of cubes protruding two of the room’s corners using Felice Varini’s technique of projecting.
Dazzle patterns
I managed to tape three more walls and to put the first coat of black paint. Patterns still in progress.
Dazzle patterns
Taping the surfaces and painting over them. Two fo the walls are almost ready. Two coats of black paint are applied. The wall with the illusion is still in progress.
Showing the walls in the space and how the patterns should be laid.
Drawings of the elevation of the tubes. The tubes height is supposed to range from 800mm to 1400mm due to the average man and woman’s eyesight level which is 1510 (for the women).
Finally every surface in the space is white and I decided to set up the projector inside. I projected the final image on the wall ans started taping.
Final pattern created. It is a modular pattern that is applied to every surface of the room with the exception of the floor.
Here is an exploded axonometry of the space.
Developing patterns
Creating different patterns with different level of complexity. The last on eis the final one picked for the project.
Painting in process! Painting over black surfaces with white paint requires at least 5 coats of white paint to cover everything.
Casting more counter-weights.
Casting counter weights again. Mixing cement and sand.
Projection tests
Setting up a projector and running some tests. Creating the trompe l’oeil illusion requires projecting an image on the wall with a projector.
Redners with a more complex pattern. Testing with black ceiling instead of patterned one.
