Finally listened to UPP Empty Graves recently. With such a core part of UPP being the idea of seeing and witnessing these fucked up thing bc no-one else will, I wonder if that was why Bizly had the whole thing of them not being allowed to look at The Horrors in EG? forcing them to deliberately look away from the thing that is Wrong as a mirror to what the adults in the town do?

Also just to expand on this a little.

Obviously, they are aware of The Horrors still in a way that the people of the town are not. However, I think you could argue the need to look away from the fucked up thing to preserve their own sanity that we see the kids doing may very well be the same thing subconsciously motivating the attitudes of the other residents of Deadwood. An adult who has grown up in Deadwood can't afford to look at every thing that goes bump in the night, because over the course of decades, they'd probably end up dropping to 0 sanity.

If you look at Norah's attack specifically, where she is forced to close her eyes and be limp, I'd say that she is quite literally having to not see and physically is forced to act like nothing is happening. She has to quell that desire to fight back and in doing so is forced to ignore the supernatural.

Also with them telling people to Not Look. I don't think we see them asking people to look nowadays, they've probably come to the conclusion it's pointless and runs the risk of having the adults interfere with investigations out of a desire to protect them. But surely when they were younger, they would try and get the adults to look and acknowledge this thing that scares them, because obviously they want an adult who believes and supports them and who can protect them. Telling people not to look for once was probably suspicious for reasons beyond the fact that it sounded like they'd committed a crime.

i LOVE her! i think she's so fucking cool and i love how we have such differing perspectives of her from gillion and then what she does in the world. her biggest motivation is to Gillion, not any factions, and she's double crossing RAFT and the undersea. i'd love to see how she was working with lizzie more, because i think it's so fucking cool that lizzie fully knew edyn was offered an opportunity to spy for RAFT and went and Told Lizzie and her crew that. i love how intentionally deceptive she is, she's aware that she's perceived as a (no pun intended) "fish out of water" and how people underestimate her for that.

like the thing with the film rights to MLK's speeches being owned by spielberg / dreamworks, that's not actually an instance where copyright law failed to protect artists. that's the system working as intended. MLK's speeches were his intellectual property. when he died the rights to that intellectual property transfered to his family, and his family decided to sell those rights to dreamworks, thereby functionally preventing anyone else from legally using those speeches in a film for the next several decades. no crime was committed, nobody was tricked into anything, that's just how intellectual property rights work
