“I woke up on the floor of my cubicle with half of a file sticking to my face. After that I decided to leave work for awhile. I could really use some company if you aren’t too busy.”
“nah, i’m not busy at all. did you feel like going out or staying in? probably in, right? ‘cause you were falling asleep at work.”
“Um… Baby’s Breath are.. sprigs of little purple flowers.. they’re usually used as accents rather than actual bouquets… red roses mean romantic love, white roses mean purity and innocence, yellow roses mean resentment, lavender roses mean a crush or blossoming love, black roses mean mourning and death.. so.. pink roses should be ok.. what white things are you referring to?”
“who would buy flowers to show resentment? that sounds like the opposite of what you’d do.” he mulled over the other man’s words though, trying to pick which flower would be the best kind for the older woman. “oh um, those ones. they look kind of like bells.” he pulled out the bouquet he was talking about and showed it to him. “the tag says tulips.”
she smiled softly before taking a closer look at the flowers and then looking back at him ❝ alright, let’s see. well.. obviously you can’t give her roses.. um.. maybe give her some yellow flowers? they’re great birthday gifts so i’m sure she’ll love those and she’ll know that you’re just giving it to her in a friendly way. ❞
“ oh you’re right, yellow is a pretty neutral color. nothing that suggests hidden love or admiration. ” he grabbed the nearest bunch and held it up to the other girl. “ what about these? they’re nice. yellow. ”
‹ nina didn’t know anything about flowers. she didn’t know their names, the meanings of gifted flowers, nothing, even though she received plenty from her clients slash lovers. but she wasn’t there to talk about flowers. she was there to do what she does best — flirt. even though she had been in the gym before coming there, even though she was wearing a sports bra, her crafted abs shoving while her hair was in a messy ponytail. ❛ well, if i got flowers from you, i’d wish it was romantic. ❜ she chuckled, intertwining her own long fingers, but definitely not in a nervous manner. ❛ girls, even though some really aren’t into flowers, y’know, think of flowers and teddy bears and all that crap as romantic presents. so, maybe she’ll jump your bones while your uncle’s not looking, or create an awkward situation and start avoiding you — which is highly unlikely, if i may say so. but that’s just my opinion. it’s cute that you wanted to get her flowers anyway. ❜›
dom’s eyes widened slightly at the very obvious flirting. he wasn’t really used to people being outright with him, and it took him by surprise. ‘ oh, thank you, ’ he replied, a slight flush coloring his cheeks. she was a pretty girl, it was definitely weird to him that she was showing him any attention. ‘ i guess i get what you mean, so no flowers then. ’ he sighed and looked away from the rows and rows of bouquets. ‘ alright, i’ll have to think of something better to get her. i don’t really know what she likes, though. maybe a gift card to a spa? women like massages and facials and all that stuff, right? ’ he was getting desperate now. her party was in a couple of hours and so far he only had a generic card.
“instead of complaining to me, why don’t you grow a decisive background and just pick a damn flower bouquet already? it’s not that hard.”
“you’re always so mean to me, i don’t get it. i’m a good guy,” he groaned teasingly before grabbing a random bouquet and paying the woman.
spencer glances over at dominic from where he’s leaning against the wall near him and gives a small smile of pity. “just pick some of the really pretty ones and be done with it. i’m sure she’ll appreciate any kind that you get her, honestly,” he explains, trying to placate his friend.
“but what if she appreciates it too much spence. like, i love my uncle, i don’t want his girlfriend to leave him for me.” it’s a stupid fear, but he always tends to overthink things. “alright, alright, what about these?” he asks, pulling out a bouquet with bright yellow, orange, and pink flowers. “nice enough?”
‹ she was sitting next to her best friend, a florist, and staring at a brunet not too far away from them. her friend noticed that she was all but listening to her so she gave her a nudge and tilted her chin towards the male, signaling nina that she should go ahead and go over to him instead of her. which she did. ❛ hi there. looking for something nice for your girlfriend? i might be able to help. ❜ she blinded him with her pearly whites and flipped her dark hair. ›
dominic had been too wrapped up in the flowers to notice the girl walking up to him until she spoke up. ‘ oh! uh, no they’re not for a girlfriend. or well, my girlfriend. they’re for my uncle’s, because it’s her birthday, ’ he explained. ‘ and uh, i thought flowers would be nice but now i’m kind of rethinking it, because i don’t want her thinking it’s like, romantic. ’ he sighed in frustration. ‘ what do you think? are flowers like, always romantic or can they be seen as like nice gifts? ’
“Um… well… Baby’s Breath means innocence, Daffodils mean respect and new beginnings… pink roses mean freindship, Wisteria means welcoming, do any of thos sound like something she might like?”
“what the fuck kind of flower is named baby’s breath? what does a baby’s breath look like? is it different than like, adults’ breath?” he hesitated before picking up the pink roses. “friendship seems pretty nice,” he decided. “roses can be seen as romantic though, maybe i should get those white things.”
emilia has been noticing the guy standing in front of the flowers for a couple of minutes now and she couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle at how annoyed the poor guy was, so she decided to go over and offer him some help. ❝ well.. you look very frustrated as hell, do you need some help? ❞
“ frustrated is a nice way to put it, ” he chuckled, though his body was still terse with stress. “ i’m um, trying to get flowers for my girlfriend’s uncle ‘cause it’s her birthday, but i don’t want her to take it the wrong way, you know? like i want it to be nice but in a platonic, i’m not hitting on you kind of way. ”
“O-Oh um.. do.. do you need help with something?” Elijah asked quietly, he was trying really hard to be more social, he didn’t usually approach people but he happened to know alot about flower language so he figured if there was ever a time.. now would be it
“yeah, that would be awesome,” dom replied, smiling gratefully at the stranger. “i’ve got to go to a birthday party later today for a family member’s girlfriend, so i wanted to get her some flowers. but i don’t know what to get her without seeming like the creepy nephew trying to hit on her.”
dominic was staring hard at the bouquets of flowers in front of him. his uncle’s girlfriend’s birthday was today, so he wanted to get her something nice along with the gift he had gotten her. but he was clueless to what kind of flowers would be appropriate for a ‘girlfriend-of-my-guardian’ type. “this is impossible,” he groans, rubbing his hand down his face.
“i’m so lucky that i have the amount of patience that i do, and that i wear old clothes to class. i was teaching 4 year olds today and one of them tipped their entire punnet of paint on me– which led to three or four of the others doing the same. yikes.”
“sounds like you had a colorful day,” dominic replied, his eyebrows wagging at his joke. “you totally could’ve made the parents pay for your dry cleaning bills though, if you wore nice clothes.”
