I'm supposed to be sleeping, but I was thinking about how the Sully kids know to be gentle with Spider. They grew up around humans. They know how different their bodies are, even if Spider is as Navi as a human can get. They rough house as kids and stuff, and even mess around as they're older, but they know not to use their full strength.

But the Metkayina don't. They've never been around sky people, at least not close. They're smaller sure, but so are many other creatures, and they're all pretty strong. They wouldn't know to be careful, to hold back their carbon-fiber-bones strength.

So Spider is adapting to reef life with the Sully's. He wins them over, just like Lo'ak did and becomes friends with the group of them. Imagine he's standing around with everyone, joking and having a good time. He says something funny and everyone laughs, even Aonung. And then imagine Aonung pats him on the back affectionately while he's laughing and Spider just flies face first into the sand.

A CRIME we didn't get to see Spider with the Metkayina more. Like HELLO he just has a clan tattoo now and we're supposed to be cool with not knowing how he got it? How they reacted seeing a human? Did they accept him right away? Was Aonung a dick, or did he grow enough as a person to see him as Loak's brother when they met? Did the clan love him right away like the wind traders did?

Is Spider so strong, so used to being dragged around by kidnappers, that a big pat on the back would only jolt him a bit? Did Aonung call him monkey boy to tease him because that's what he kept getting called.

Was he and Roxto and Tsireya amazed by how agile and strong he is? Did they just assume all humans were that strong since he's the first they saw up close? Then they have to fight a human with the RDA and without their metal, they're just so fragile. Ughhh, questions

No Fire & Ash Spoilers, I’ve just gotta say something.

There is SO much to process after seeing this movie. I went on Friday last week, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything. I was able to see it again before Christmas Eve and it’s still not enough.

Short story though? If you have the ability, go see Avatar, Fire and Ash in 3D. It IS worth it.

Long story?

I don’t know about any of you guys, but my first (and only) experience with 3D movies was from a Shrek movie when I was like 6 or 7 and it was less than pleasant. The red and blue paper glasses, the headache, the weird red and blue pop out effects. I haven’t done 3D since, never even thought about it until the release of this movie. I really thought that technology had given up on 3D stuff since then, it was out of my field of knowledge.

My town has a dinky little theater that’s never updated anything, old chairs and probably the same carpet they put in when it was built in 1986. It’s not so bad though, watching ATWOW in it was just as amazing as I hoped, I went back to see it 4x. But for this movie? This movie I HAD to have better. The best. I saved up, counted down the days, and traveled like 2 and a half hours by myself just to watch this movie in a Cinemark theater with the chairs that move with the scenes (they ended up not being as crazy as chairs I’ve seen other places). Prepaid $26 for the ticket, but I did not care about the price in this instance. I’d been saving money all year for this. When I got there though, they gave me a pair of glasses and said the movie was in 3D and I was like ah okay. Bummer.

I tried them on through the previews and ended up taking them off from shock. I got startled like 4x, as someone who never gets snuck up on, because people kept appearing in front of me. Absolutely not the 3D I remembered! Also did you see that thing about James studying a way to make the 3D not give people headaches? I love his thinking, and he totally nailed it too.

When the movie started? Oh. My. Gods. For 10 straight minutes I was sat with my jaw open, staring at the screen. Not just because of how beautiful the movie was, but the DETAIL you could see with it. The characters popping off screen, the particles in their air floating in front of your face. It was like my eyes were hyper focusing on details of the characters, at one point I even remember STARING at Spider’s knee for like weird amount of time. The lines, the shadows, the details of his skin pulled around muscle and joint. It was even clearer than if I was looking and touching it in real life. I was AWESTRUCK you guys. So much so, I didn’t even notice the seat’s movement function wasn’t working.

I’m not even going to go on about the movement thing, because it’s not necessary, just a fun little thing. I’d also probably not do the moving chair again for this movie, because the most motion was for the RDA scenes and I hated feeling like I was there with them. I don’t want to be hanging out with the RDA, not in a boat, not in a plane, not in a lab, not here or there, or whatever Guy-I-Am said to Sam-I-Am (I googled his name).

But the seeing the movie in 3D had me wanting to scream from the rooftops that people need to go to a theater that has it. Life changing, actually.

Okay now wait a second... I was thinking. Why are they keeping Grace's avatar 'alive'? I mean it can't just be so Kiri can visit her. Like the amount of power and resources that must take to keep her Avatar healthy for 15+ years? Are they keeping her around in case something happens to Kiri? Or is James Cameron keeping her there for that reason? I mean since their genetics are alike then she could theoretically link and have Kiri's consciousness put into that body. I know why we see her in TWOW, but again after that? Hmmm... suspicious

Okay, what is James Cameron planning, teaching the boys to pack wounds?

Arrow wounds specifically. It's there at least 3x in the movie. First Netiri does it when she gets hit by Varang, breaks off the end rather than pulling it through. Then Jake yells "no, no, no, stop, don't do that" or whatever when Loak tries to pull the arrow out of his dad's leg. Tells him he needs to pack the wound, pushes the arrow through, then breaks the end off (also Jake, why tf don't your kids already know how to do that? I mean hello, they grew up in a war zone bro). Then when Spider shoots Quaritch, he does the same thing, packing the wound in front of him instead of pulling it all the way out.

The first time I watched I was so suspicious of why the heck that detail was going to be so important. My second watch is when I noticed it happening more than twice. He's gotta be planning something with that, I swear

All that speculation of whether Spider fears Neytiri after what happened last time, only for him to turn and run towards her in relief when she came to rescue Jake.

Well she was the lesser of two evils, like, when Neytiri almost killed Spider it was a heat-of-the-moment-my-son-just-died-and-I'm-ready-to-kill-everyone-and-then-myself type of thing, Jake's attempt was premeditated in cold blood 😭

Loved being able to see her acting expanded into something as complex as filming as a Na'vi. One of the only villains in media to make me want to throw up and rage at the same time. James Cameron BETTER put the cut version of that blade dance in the extended/collectors addition of the dvd. I NEED to see it

Just thinking about Neteyam's reaction to finding out how he died. Lo'ak explaining all the details, stressing that he made them go back for Spider. And Neteyam saying "well, then we had to go back." Like it was nothing. The most obvious thing for them to do. Like it wasn't a big deal at all for him that it ended in his death, because they had to go back for Spider. They had to save him, of course they did. Sure, he died, but the alternative wasn't even an option to consider for Neteyam.

We barely got any Spider & Neteyam interactions in ATWOW, their relationship was somewhat ambiguous. That led to lots of fics having Neteyam be dismissive of Spider, like he was of little consequence in his life. Or worse, that he thought like his mother. I didn't know what to think, but Neteyam didn't seem the kind of person to hate Spider for his death.

But that scene? And the ending? "Hey little bro". You guys 😭 Everyone knows Lo'ak and Spider are brothers. But you know what I forgot? Spider was born before all of them. He's closer in age to Neteyam than Lo'ak. Do you think before Lo'ak was born, Spider was there?

A little chubby, curly haired toddler racing around outside, going to the village with Norm- he wouldn't let go of Norm's leg until he let him come with.

Do you think he was there at the ceremony, was listening to Neytiri's singing Neteyam's song cord, watching her weave the first beads? Fat, dirt covered fingers reaching out to touch baby Kiri, to grab Neteyam's wiggling foot. Giggling, patting them on the head like a big brother. Angry he can't kiss them through his mask, he's trying to take it off and Norm is chasing after him so he can't because they've all told him a hundred times he has to keep it on outside.

Not understanding why when Neytiri is there, she's standing, pulling Neteyam away from him. Why Jake won't let him hold little Kiri in his jerky, unsteady toddler arms.

Calling him "little bro" is such a shitass brother thing to do. They're always teasing him about his height, no wonder he wanted Kiri to help him grow a few extra centimeters! Neteyam had a brother before Lo'ak was born. He was just too busy trying to be the perfect son to let himself be terrified at Spider's fate when he was taken.

Dude, last night I was really contemplating the possibility that Spider had no idea wtf that even was. I mean they're probably not making burgers in the lab/resistance, and even then Spider seems like he'd be the type to just eat native grown/hunted food anyways.

There's the possibility that he HAD a burger before while captured, sure. But he was being tortured so I dont really think the cuisine they offered was something very good. AND Spider probably would have thrown the food back at them, or the window or something as a fuck you anyways. (The image of him covering the cameras and window in food like a wild animal is really funny too, but I digress). While with Quaritch they were in the forest, he was teaching them how to be Na'vi. I dont think he would allow burgers in his lesson plans.

I really think he just saw dude pull some bright yellow paper wrapped something out of his pocket and didn't know what the hell it was. There wasnt any hesitation when he smacked it of the table either, he didn't even think about it 😂 I'd also really love it if Spider was pretty attuned with smells, and it smelled like some human, chemical garbage. (I'm also really fond of the cat knocking stuff off counters comparison people have made).

You're comparison to Mcdonalds though begs the question... what the hell was burger even made of? Now I gotta go through the avatar books and try to guess which animal would taste best as a burger 😂 Do they have cheese? RDA definitely are NOT out there milking Zakru. And if it's MRE food, Spider was definitely right to throw it out. Monkey boy's stomach probably couldn't handle decade-old whatever the hell the Marines were feeding poor Jake

“Thank you. This one should be on the house for how much trouble you gave me.” Mylo pretended to take a drink, and Powder goes from slight giggles to fits of laughter. “What did you do to my drink?” He gasps.
