Hmm! That is an interesting concept! Not a common one, but one that could be interesting to explore.
I assume you are basing this theory in part on Ly’s hidden statue in Rayman 3 being her last official appearance in the mainline games? If so then this is a strong theory which might explain her absence from newer games (Origins and Legends) and why she is never mentioned.
Personally I wouldn’t like to think this headcannon true because I don’t think Rayman would bounce back from it so easily. Based on concept art and Rayman’s behaviour around Ly in Rayman 2 he sees her as a valued friend. I’d like to think her death would affect him somehow.
But then again Sssam the snake and Clark also don’t appear in person any main game beyond Rayman 2 (again, Sssam or a snake like Ssam only appears as a statue in R3), and they would also be considered good friends of Rayman.
Honestly I think the cannon reason is the creators of Origins and Legends wanted to have a shake up; adding new characters and shaking off any that didn’t fit into what they wanted in their new games. I don’t think there is any real cannon reason why characters like Ly and Clark were excluded so I just assume they were there chilling in the background somewhere.
BUT that is not to say you shouldn’t explore this concept! How would you see a story where Ly dies in Rayman 2 continuing? How would Rayman and his friend react to the news? How would her loss change the balance of the fairy world of the Glade? It’s a big change to the ‘’’’cannon’’’’’ of the Rayman series and would be fascinating to see developed!
