Moving!
So Iāve been wanting to do this for awhile. Iām tired of this sideblog business and I want to be more active on tumblr. So I made a new account and Iām archiving this one. I really hate to have to do this at a point when Iām regularly gaining followers but really, itās a way for me to communicate better with everyone.Ā Iām really appreciative of each and every one of you!! <3Ā
If Japan, Asian dramas, subs, reviews, gifs etc are your thing, please do follow.Ā Ā

Poison Berry in My Brain (2015) - Sato YuichiĀ
The adult version of Inside Out. Tried to avoid the comparison but I really canāt!! This was pretty fun to watch and it had quite a number of great actors and actresses. For the most part I think it captured how a single woman of that age would think pretty well. A couple of small twists also upped my interest level. If youāre up for a feel-good film, this is it.Ā
Oh dear Furukawa Yuki fans, thanks for liking/reblogging. Just a heads up - this movie might not be to your liking though! :(
Yokokuhan (2015) - Nakamura YoshihiroĀ
Letās start with negatives - I didnāt appreciate the portrayal of that pinoy kid in this. I think Japan really needs to move beyond backward portrayals of foreigners. Their portrayal of the happy, pure, naive kid was condescending and not unlike the portrayal of black slaves in American literature, and also not far from the rhetoric present in Nihonjinron.Ā
Alright, now positives. Though the groupās motivations were not difficult to guess, this is an A+ thriller. I loved seeing how theirĀ āpropheciesā played out. It was also a touching portrayal of human relationships. Worth a watch.Ā
Galaxy Turnpike (2015) - Mitani Koki
I just want someone to watch this film and tell me if they went WTFFFFF??! like I did. Itās about aliens so, letās just say this film was...interesting. (Daring, for want of another adjective). I highly recommend Mitani Kokiās The Magic Hour instead of thisĀ but this has some good things going for it too, like how the characters eventually intertwined in some way.Ā

Hi! I just wanted to ask, will the livestream have English subtitles/translations?
Nope it wouldnāt! But a really nice fan called Rebby usually speed translates most of the dialogue :)Ā
Coming Soon: Seirei no Moribito
This is the one drama I am really looking forward to. I hope that it wonāt run short of expectations. The books and anime were so good.,
Casting was kind of unexpected, but Ayase can act, so Iām not too worried about her. As for the rest of the cast, weāll wait and see.Ā
Hi Bromance followers, if you wanna join in a big crazy live streaming group chat on Sunday, 10.30pm (Taiwan time), then I got you:

Bromance Ep 15 Preview
Anyone else links Wordpress with Tumblr? Why on earth are my posts not showing excerpts? Why does it still pubkish the full post? I specifically tailored them on Wordpress and I canāt cut this post on Tumblr. Help? :(
This week on Bromance: This show is disgusting. This show gives you cavities. If you held your breath for as long as Ya Nuo and Zi Feng kissed this week you might honestly collapse due to oxygen deficiency.
Iāve heardĀ that director Cheng Rong Hui was famous for his kissing scenes. Fans were like, āHave you watched āApple in Your Eyeā? Heās known for kissing scenes.ā And I was like, āCool, alright.ā
Well. WELL.
I think for a moment there the show forgot they werenāt exactly on a midnight time slot?
That aside, Iām really glad that they got Zi Feng to bring up the incident where he overheard the conversation between Ah Chao and Ya Nuo. At that moment Iām sure it cast a shadow on him. Besides bringing closure, it shows his persistence in pushing through his internal hurdles ā the extent to which he had to go āHECK ITā to finally confess to Ya Nuo. Zi Feng is singular, determined, and an utter fool in love.
But enough of that. Letās move on to Mr. Sexual Tension himself ā Han Sheng. These past 3 weeks have been filled with glorious eye intensity courtesy of resident bad guy.
Part of me still grieves the lost potential of a grey morality plot. But in Bromance itās all Black and White, Mary Sues and 1D Antagonists. Accepting all that,Ā I loved everything about Zi Feng and Han Shengās face off. Remember what he told Han Sheng previously. He would crush the very place Ya Nuo gets hurt. By the very fire of Hephaestus did he look like he was going to destroy Han Sheng and I LOVED IT. But I also loved that he COULDNāT do it, because their ties run so deep. I ship it. Not sorry.
Not sorry Zhe Ruiās not in this episode either. The writers took a hint. Iām thankful, but Iām also aware that this makes for a really disjointed show. Kid at the beach didnāt work, dump her. Ya Qi didnāt work, send her back to wherever she came from, Zhe Ruiās not working, shove him in the trunk till we can figure out what to do with him (not that theyāve had much of an idea this whole time).
I continue to mourn the fact that Sean Lee couldāve served a better purpose. Heās a more than decent actor. Youāll have your time in the spotlight love, in another show perhaps.
This is why Iāve always preferred the even episodes to the odd episodes. This show has a pretty consistent pattern where odd episodes are more plot heavy (ish, anywayā¦), and even episodes are more fluff heavy. But with the plot lines running here there and everywhere with some not ever coming to proper closure, Iād rather take the fluff. So itās emptier, but it has centralityĀ in Zi Feng and Ya Nuoās (increasingly cheesy but still lovely) romance.
That being said, I am very interested in the gang tussle plot, and I am crossing all my fingers in hope that it will turn out as exciting as it can be. I know itās so contradictory to say this right after I said I prefer fluff, but if the writers can move the gang plot forward in a coherent, intriguing manner it would definitely make this story more interesting. Empty fluff has its limits at times. Remember, with the actors as close as they are off screen, I could seek fluff in the BTS, but I could never get gang politics other than within the plot.
The writers have no excuse because right now Zi Feng and Ya Nuoās lines are basically copied from every other romance drama right now. They donāt need to think, they just need to insert. So concentrate on writing me a good olā gang throw-down please.
Then thereās this inexplicable semi-schizophrenic moment? Itās very In Time With You like for Ya Nuo to just āappearā beside Zi Feng, but the difference is that in ITwY it was done consistently. In this case, itās just bewildering! My guess is that Zi Feng canāt yet bring himself to say those words to Ya Nuo, because heās not sure how Ya Nuo would react. He wishes that she would say, āI knowā like she does in the spectre. But if that is the case, why is it that he canāt say it to her in person? Zi Feng doesnāt strike me as the sort who canāt say those words. Soā¦Iāll just put this down as another WTH? moment.
Half time comment: Zi Han showed herself to be a shining beacon of sisterliness. And also, whereās my girl Xiao Jing at?
Back to the game, and I really loved the parallels between Zi Fengās parents and him and Ya Nuo. Simply speaking, the young lovers are basically married at this point. Y/N? But well, on a deeper level, what strikes me as so heart warming is that as Ya Nuo and Zi Feng stand looking at Zi Fengās parents, we as audiences are supposed to take in so much at one time. We, together with Ya Nuo and Zi Feng, take note of the strength of love displayed by Feng Jie, and we earn for it just as our favourite onscreen couple does. This is love, a different form of romance, a deep committed form that is great to witness in an idol drama.
The gold star definitely goes to Linda Liu this week for balancing comedic timing and gravitas. She is so classy and I bought every note in the range of emotion she brought out this week. As the Chinese saying goes, å§čæęÆčēč¾£ ā itās the oldest ginger thatās the spiciest ā and she proves it.
Weāll end off where we started, at the kiss. Just a short snippet of Menās Talk 14, where Megan and River kiss so deeply Megan doesnāt realise that the director yells cut. A second later, River taps her back once gently before removing his hand (though his lips are still locked against hers), and thatās when she realises that the director had already gone about his business and pulls away. The look they gave each other as separated scared me a little as a shipper. Might I have struck gold or is this all an illusion?
Just as the kisses drew us in, there mustāve been something quite pleasuring about it to get them so deeply involved.Ā River, it aināt just an addiction for you. Maybe, just maybe, itās an addiction for us all.
