Partially true. Each version from the Bible has its own translation. For example:

NIV:

Numbers 23:22 - God brought them out of Egypt;

    they have the strength of a wild ox.

The person who wrote that article probably got that particular wording out of the King James version.

They also describe hippos and crocodiles in some pretty crazy fashions.  The way people described what the say then that we fairly readily know and understand now is just incredible.  Things like dolphins, whales, squids, etc. have all lent themselves to some pretty tall tales (e.g. mermaids and sea monsters).
