She explains herself to Eddie- that they told her "my darling Roger would never work in this town again", and she knows Roger lives to entertain. He wants to make people happy. She performs this act that makes her skin crawl and lets herself be photographed while doing it, not for herself, but for her husband, whom she loves dearly.
When Roger saw the photos, he knew there had to be an explanation. And he didn't blame her, call her a slut, or anything else. He immediately reaffirmed his love for her, in writing, and set out to clear her name.
I'd also argue that, due to who the nature of who Roger is? Knocking him out and locking him in the trunk was genuinely for his own safety. The only surefire way to keep Roger out of trouble (including creating danger for himself) is to knock him out and lock him in the trunk.
Eddie also asks her at one point why she's married to Roger. Point blank.
It's right after she says, "I have to find my darling husband, I'm so worried about him."
"Seriously, what do you see in that guy?"
Without a moment's hesitation, she says, "He makes me laugh."
Jessica fell in love with Roger because he treated her exactly like he treats everyone else. The way she looks never entered into his actions or thought process. The only thing he ever wanted from her was to make her smile, to be the reason she felt joy. There is no one else who ever treats her that way.
Jessica truly cannot help the way she looks or presents. Her face, her body, her voice. Even her clothes- there are some cartoons where she appears in an outfit other than the red dress, but it's still the sexiest version of the outfit possible, and showing as much skin as possible. And in extremely high heels.
Jessica is a woman who has never had the choice but to present as femme and as sexy as possible- regardless of what she wants. She has no choice but to exist in the world as eye candy for horny men, and she knows she was designed to be an explicitly sexual fantasy.
She is acutely aware that she was designed to be a cartoon that men jerked off to- which, in a universe where toons are sentient, is creepy as fuck when you think about it for more than five seconds. No one asked her how she felt about this. No one asked her if she wanted to look like that, or if she wants that specific kind of attention. No one ever asked Jessica if she consented to be this "sex symbol", or to be drawn that way.
Jessica is also acutely aware of how different she is compared to every other toon in her world. They all want to make people smile. To entertain, to make people laugh. But she's not funny. She's never been meant to be funny. She was meant for one thing, and one thing only.
As a toon who is Not Funny, the only way she can make a living is by using what she does have, because she knows she can trust human men to be A Certain Way about her.
Personally, I have always headcanoned her as asexual. And her line at the end of telling Roger she'll bake him a carrot cake when they go home? I choose to interpret that as an actual cake.
Jessica is kind, brave, deeply caring and selfless, and has a great sense of humor. But very very few people know that, because none of them bother to get past the visual.
And he did it from the start, without ever being asked to.
I like to think of Jessica curled up on the couch in sweatpants and an oversized sweater, laughing at whatever joke her darling husband has just told her. She deserves that.
