Sneak peek at my next work

Sweat dripped down my brow as a tree branch snapped against my flushed cheeks. Running through the woods at midnight isn’t what most people would call fun, but neither is getting chased down by the creature you had been hoping to document. A guttural roar cracked through the silence of the forest and my ragged breathing and I in that moment I prayed. 

I prayed to whatever god may cast it’s disdainful eye on my wretched soul that I don’t get devoured here and now in this dark and damp utopia of creepy crawling things.

As most cliches go, my foot snags itself on an unseen root and I spiral forward; wild, out of control, and falling down a steep decline, the breath was knocked out of my exhausted lungs and gone off to a far better place. The shattering of tree branches and pounding of heavy paws caused my panic stricken heart to lodge itself securely in my throat. 

Please, no, not like this,  I thought desperately as three pairs of glowing amber eyes floated out of the darkness to watch my writhing form scuttle further into the underbrush. The moonlight did nothing to ease the darkness under the thick foliage around the creature and I, and even if it had, I wouldn’t want to see the beast in all it’s glory up close and this personal. Not again.
