#a fairy and a vampire have an argument
I don’t think our generation truly understand how different our future is going to be.
There are a lot of things that are going to be very different in the distant future. Here’s a few:
Saltwater fish could be extinct by 2048
Whites will become the american minority in 2044
Bees are dying (and bringing important staple foods down with them)
The world having significant less oil by 2040 (and may even run out completely by 2068)
Chocolate will be scarce by 2020
The world is running out of helium
By 2050, we might not have enough resources to feed our cattle, so we could actually run out of hamburger meat (best case scenario: Steak will just become very expensive, which means no more $1 burgers)
Parents are seriously at the point where they have to chose between saving for their retirement or paying for their kids college fees; sometimes, they can’t do both
global warming is ruining the world
Wake up, everyone. The world is changing. It’s seriously up to us to save it. (If you know of any more, please add on!)
God we are so fucked
Technical Difficulties

I am currently saving up for a new laptop so hopefully I shall fully return soon :) Big thanks to felixemmy for letting me use her computer. I highly recommend that you guys check her and her side blogs out, she’s brilliant!

No. Just no. Ok?
So I used to make this joke all the time. Now I have chronic tinnitus. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s nerve damage in your ears which often comes as a result of being constantly exposed to very loud noise for a long period of time. The nerve damage results in a constant ringing/buzzing in your ears. So far there’s no cure. The severity of it varies, and I’m lucky to have a mild case, which I can barely hear during the day and is easy to block out at night. That said, loads of people with tinnitus aren’t so lucky. Severe tinnitus can’t be blocked out. Those who suffer from it also suffer from severe loss of sleep, depression, anxiety…. the list goes on. Tinnitus also comes with a degree of hearing loss in most cases, making it even harder to ignore. In fact, some people with severe tinnitus kill themselves just to make the ringing stop. Tinnitus can be so severe that it drives a person to suicide. Chronic tinnitus used to mostly be prevalent in older people who worked for years with loud machinery etc, but all of a sudden it’s becoming more common in our generation. Why? Because of people, like me, who listened to their music too goddamn loudly through their headphones.
Deaf by the time you’re 20? Please. That’s the least of your worries.
Please reblog. This post reminded me to move my music further away and turn it down. Someone else may need to be more cautious of their shit too.
This is super important. My little brother has moderate tinnitus. He can’t sleep at night because the ringing in his ears is so loud, and is almost never happy anymore because of it. The scary thing about it all? He’s 11, and has only been using headphones for a few years–so it could hit you at any age. Please be careful
Ash has tinnitus from playing in a band with no eat protection and listening to music so loud through headphones i can hear it clearly across the room. It’s also a vicious circle because where he’s going deaf, he listens to his music louder and that makes it worse. Like yeah it used to be cool to listen to your music super loud when you were younger but for fuck sale turn it down now.
So I guess what we’re all saying, is “Turn down for ‘WHAT?’”.
(Seriously tho, save those ear drums)
tinnitus is not fun yo
Baby-Doll Batman: The Animated Series
This is one criminally underrated Batman villain.
SERIOUSLY THOUGH SHE WAS MY FAVORITE BATMAN VILLAIN
Her physical condition didn’t allow her to age
No one took her seriously as an actress
And even when she was trying to get into a happy romantic relationship (albeit with another villain) he still couldn’t take her seriously as a consenting, sexually active and romantically interested adult
That’s a lot of blows to someone’s psyche
and Babydoll is both a sympathetic villain and a formidable one
I remember this episode fucked me up a a kid.
And man, do I wish we could see this Batman again: the Batman that consoles his villains, because the majority (if not all) of them are mentally ill people. And Batman knows this and wants them healthy again, not punished and GOD definitely not dead.
Baby Doll is so underrated as a Batman villain
but her episode was perfect
Batman: The Animated Series The story of one fucked up, traumatized little boy, doing his best to help other fucked up traumatized people.
absentlyabbie:
#this show is the only batcanon that matters to me #dc can burn everything else down but they’ll never pry the dcau from cold dead clawed hands
The Batman that cares about the inmates is my favorite. He doesn’t put up with their shit, but he does try to reach out here and there and he’s as human as he can be to them.
When Harley was re-institutionalized, he got her that dress she wanted.
In the comics based on B:tAS, there was a time during Christmas that there was snow and it was Mr. Freeze’s fault, and he was making it snow because Christmas was his anniversary with Nora and she LOVED it when it snowed on Christmas, so Batman let him finish mourning before calmly taking him back to Arkham.
He never, ever gives up on Harvey possibly recovering.
Sure, Batman is going to throw punches and do what it takes to take these guys down when they’re hurting or threatening people. And he’s not going be a complete bleeding heart; he has to protect the innocent. He’s going to take them down and take them back to Arkham, but it doesn’t mean he’s incapable of being a bit human to the ones who deserve it.
I was pretty skeptical about the figures, since they contradict what I usually hear on the media, so I did a little research. Here’s what I found: (Sorry this is so US centric) (I’ll also try to stay close to primary sources as possible)
- the 12 months before taking the survey, an estimated 4.0% of women experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner -an estimated 14.2% of women experienced some form of psychological aggression in the 12 months preceding the survey. -*4,774,000 women have been victims of physical violence by intimate partner in the 12 months preceding the survey -*17,091,000 women have been victims of psychological aggression by intimate partner in the 12 months preceding the survey
- the 12 months before taking the survey, an estimated 4.8% of men experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner -an estimated 18.0% of men experienced some form of psychological aggression in the 12 months preceding the survey. -*5,452,000 men have been victims of physical violence by intimate partner in the 12 months preceding the survey -*20,471,000 men have been victims of psychological aggression by intimate partner in the 12 months preceding the survey
*Table 6
By the data presented by the Center for Disease Control, out of the estimate of 10,226,000 yearly victims of intimate partner violence, 53.3% of victims where male and 46.6% were female. As for psychological aggression, out of the estimate of 37,562,000 yearly victims, 54.4% were male and 45.5% were female. These statistics would support the claim made in the bottom left.
Now I couldn’t find a primary source for the 70% of DV is initiated by women, but here’s the facts that I found, which may have been interpreted by the people who made this poster:
(http://www.huffingtonpost.com/glenn-sacks/researcher-says-womens-in_b_222746.html) -Women who were in a battered women’s shelter, 67% of the women reported severe violence toward their partner in the past year.
This can be interpreted as “67% of violent couples with IPV is mutual”. But then again, primary sources and full data would be helpful to back up this claim.
But the one that is most interesting is:(http://psychnews.psychiatryonline.org/newsArticle.aspx?articleid=111137)(Another report analysis from the CDC)
-23.9% of relationships are violent -50.3% of IPV is non-reciprocal and 49.7% is reciprocal (Reciprocal IPV= Mutual violence) -70.7% of non-reciprocal IPV is initiated by women.
So summing up the numbers, it’s not that 70% of all DV is initiated by women, its that 70% of non-reciprocal DV is initiated by women. To go further would say that 49.7% of DV is mutual, 36.2% of DV is initiated by women, and 14.5% of DV is initiated by men
Male victims of domestic violence are real. They are hurting. And they often don’t get the attention and compassion they so urgently deserve and need.
Have a heart. Open your mind, and give a care.
Harvard released a study that concluded that 70% of non-reciprocal domestic violence was perpetrated by women. The study was erased/deleted. No official retraction; No official corrections. Just deleted. No press release to explain why it was gone.
Kill the myth that the vast majority of Domestic Violence is committed by men.
Hm. These numbers are all so different to anything I’ve seen before. I’m reblogging and liking this both for my own reference and to spread these numbers to others. I’m definitely gonna look into this and see if I can find more sources and more information.
https://cishetwhiteoppressor.wordpress.com/category/human-rights-issues/domestic-abuse/
I made a small archive of sources on the reality of domestic abuse.
It includes this:
SUMMARY: This bibliography examines 286 scholarly investigations: 221 empirical studies and 65 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600
This duck got himself all in a flap after inadvertently straying into the path of a giant Shoebill while heading towards water.
But it was all water off a duck’s back for the imposing 4ft tall bird which instead of eating his smaller friend, carefully picked him up in his beak and moved him aside.
Despite its fearsome reputation as a predator around water, the Shoebill seemed more concerned with completing its journey than tucking into a feathered snack.
These extraordinary pictures were captured by 51-year-old amateur photographer Mark Kay, at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in the U.S.
‘I thought the Shoebill was going to eat the duck, but soon realised he was moving him out of the way.
‘After the duck fell to the ground, he seemed flustered and just walked away. The Shoebill just carried on.’
