A story in progress, please let me know if you would like me too post the upcoming chapters.
A cold breeze could be felt coming from the woods, right before a large explosion could be heard, spreading snow everywhere. “Hoshimi, move!” shouted Yoru with a worried tone. There was a blinding puff of snow before silence…
Chapter 1
~The lost past~
~7 years before~
Hoshimi Sora, a black haired boy with ocean blue eyes, walked into a small cottage on the border of the city and woods. He hung up his leather satchel and looked around for his brothers. “Yoru? Akari?” He called out in his usual quiet voice. No answer…
Hoshimi walked up the stairs looking for the two. He went into Akari’s room first.
Akari, a boy with snow white hair and piercing yellow eyes, those of a snake, peered up.
“Oh welcome home, Hoshi’,' Akari said with a smile. Hoshimi looked at him and tilted his head, “Watcha’ reading?” He asked seeing a book in his brother's hands. “Oh well, it's a story called 'The wild spell,'” answered Akari. He closed the book and placed it on his nightstand before patting on the side of the bed. Hoshimi sat in the spot and smiled at his brother. “So, how was your day?” Akari asked him. Hoshimi shrugged, “Fine I guess, I went to the market to see if there were any new comics but couldn't find anything” he said, a bit disappointed. “Aw man, that sucks'' said Akari with a frown.
“Oh but before I forget, Have you seen Yoru by chance?” Akari asked a bit suddenly. Hoshimi shook his head, “Nope, not since this morning. Is he not in his room?” Akari looked at Hoshimi with a more serious look, “..No, he’s not, you think we should look for him?” Hoshimi nodded. The two got up and Akari grabbed his wool and leather jacket, quickly putting it on; right before putting on his boots. The two walked out of the cabin and trotted through the deep snow making their way into the forest. Akari went up to a tree and took out his pocket knife, carving a symbol into the tree while saying, “Hoshi’, let's split up to cover more ground, in 30 minutes meet back at this tree, got it?” Hoshimi nodded before thumping through the snow in the opposite direction.
Around 30 minutes later
Hoshimi was searching everywhere he could think of to find Yoru. The boys knew the forest well so Hoshimi wasn’t too afraid of getting lost. He peered into a cave he went to often but didn't see anything but a burnt up fire he had made the other day.
“Yoru?” He called out in a hushed tone. No response…
“Yoru?” He called out a bit louder.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks hearing a distinctive howl. He tensed up and looked at the sky realizing it was sundown already. “I need to get back before the wolves start hunting.” He thought frantically. He followed his footsteps that were starting to be covered up by more snow and made his way back to the marked tree. He was getting a bit worried because it was starting to fall into darkness and neither Yoru nor Akari had returned yet… He stared in the darkness towards the direction of a creek that was currently frozen over. “Best to get a flashlight.” He mumbled under his frozen breath. He made his way to the small wooden cabin and went inside searching for a flashlight. He looked through his leather satchel finding one before taking it and going back outside. He started heading in the direction of the creek before he heard a quiet groan coming from a bush. Hoshimi stopped and looked around trying to trace down the sound. “Is someone there?” Hoshimi said, holding his pocket knife up in a defensive position.
“Hoshi’, that you?” Called Akari from behind a bush. Hoshimi flashed his flashlight in the direction of Akari’s voice and ran to him. He was kneeling on the ground clasping his ankle. “Think I twisted it” Akari answered seeing Hoshi’s face outlined by the dim light.
Akari sighed before saying, “It's getting late, let's continue to search tomorrow, Yoru knows to take shelter and how to find food and water, he should be fine for a bit.” Hoshimi knew just as well as his brother that this was true but still was in denial about leaving Yoru out past nightfall. He sighed but understood that they couldnt search any longer and had to treat Akari’s ankle. Hoshimi helped Akari up and together they made their way back to the small cottage. They went inside and Hoshimi helped Akari to the couch. “Let me grab you an ice pack and wrap for your ankle.” Said Hoshimi. Akari nodded and grabbed Hoshimi’s shoulder before he went to grab the supplies. “Hoshi’ don't worry about Yoru too much..We will find him, I promise.” He said with a hint of doubt in his voice. Hoshimi nodded with a sorrow in his eyes anyone could see. “I know already.” He then left the room going to look for a med kit and ice pack. Akari looked at the ground before mumbling under his breath, “Please be ok Yoru..”
