Can we talk about how ableist some aphobes are? I’m autistic and ace, so my experience is mostly with anti-autistic behaviors. Here’s a list of things that have happened.

They made fun of me when I used a special interest to illustrate the idea of separate entities combining into a single, stronger entity because I was having trouble communicating that idea.

They get mad when I headcanon autistic and autistic-coded characters as ace because I identify with them. Even when I tell them I’m autistic, their answer basically boils down to “Okay, but I hope you realize how bad and harmful this is for other people”. In other words, they continue to guilt me for finding comfort in a character even after I explain why it’s comforting and I want/need that.

Constantly speaking over me and other people on the spectrum to continue to spread the lie that a-spec is autistic terminology. It’s not. It never has been. Stop using us as pawns in your hateful discourse.

Saying things like “OP is braindead” or “What is wrong with you?” on my posts and then playing victim when I respond with things like ”Not braindead, just autistic” or “Well I suppose some would say that my autism is what’s wrong with me”

Sometimes I wonder what sort of effect all the posts about hating cishets has on questioning people, especially those in the early stages of questioning. I feel like it might drive some of them away, to be honest. It must be frightening to open yourself up to people for love and support when there’s the chance that you might be the thing that they hate so much. Why risk letting them get close enough to hurt you when you know they’ll turn on you if you don’t turn out to be what they want you to be. I think we’re creating a rather toxic environment for anyone in the questioning stage.

I’ve been mocked simply for having special interests by aphobes although it was not part of the discussion.

Seen autism referred to as “white nonsense” by and aphobe.

Called a “freak” simply for being a 30 (at the time) year old autistic person.

People who are pro-choice, but against eating eggs because they are “baby chickens” confuse me.

It has been a very long time since I have seen someone think that unfertilised eggs are baby chickens since education on the happenings in animal agriculture has become much more widespread. Most people are against eggs because they are against the exploitation and abuse of the hens. We are against their bodies being used, and their rights to their own body and health being taken away from them, which fits perfectly in with the pro-choice mindset.

Those people I understand because their logic is internally consistent. I have seen a surprising number of people go for the “You’re eating babies!” angle though and those people are the ones that baffle me. 

They’re not super common, but it bemused me enough to post about it and I was too much of a coward to post it on my main. No offense, but for some reason vegan-related discourse seems to attract the sort of people that blow up inboxes with very nasty stuff.

the replies on this post are a mess and i guess ace people think everyone is a terf without knowing what that means lol. get some reading comprehension skills and go outside i’m begging you. being ace shouldn’t be your whole personality and it shouldn’t justify starting a damn rift in the lgbt community.

A probably stupid idea

What if instead of abortions, the fetus was removed via c-section and then is placed up for adoption if it survives? Maybe that could help with some of the moral issues surrounding late-term abortions without compromising the woman’s desire to not be pregnant anymore.

Unfortunately, most abortions happen within the first trimester and the fetus wouldn’t be able to survive outside of the womb. You would think they would do this for late term abortions, but unfortunately they don’t.

I never liked the term “toxic masculinity” and I’ve just figured out why. It basically blames men for the ways that society mistreats them.

The fact that men’s feelings are constantly being ignored because they should be “tough” is a society problem, not something wrong with men.

The fact that men are looked down on for showing emotions is a society problem, not something wrong with men.

The fact that people don’t take it as seriously when men are abused, assaulted, and raped is a society problem, not something wrong with men.

When we call these things toxic masculinity, it sends the message that these things are problems with men. These are not problems with men, they are problems with society.
