Newly discovered Pokemon Stadium 1 bug!
I finally discovered the cause for NaN's legendary-like stats!
It is the result of a previously undocumented quirk regarding how Pokémon Stadium 1 calculates the stats of glitch Pokémon. Its effects are not yet fully understood, but if you want a legendary-like MISSINGNO. like NaN for yourselves, here's how!
In order to perform this glitch, you'll need a copy of Red or Blue, Pokémon Stadium 1, and the Pokémon Stadium Transfer Pak.
This glitch can be done with a base form MISSINGNO. that's above level 100 - these can be found while surfing along Cinnabar or Seafoam's east coast, as long as you have the correct player name.
Catch the level 100< MISSINGNO. and put it in your party.
Use Rare Candies to level the MISSINGNO. up to level 255. Then save at a Pokémon Center and quit.
Load up your game into Stadium 1 using the Transfer Pak.
Go to the Pokémon Lab and use the PC.
Select the Pokémon option, then withdraw or deposit any Pokémon from/to your GB Boxes. Do NOT deposit the MISSINGNO. during this. Then, save and quit.
Load up your save file with the GB Tower or on your GameBoy.
As you can see, your level 255 MISSINGNO. will have leveled down to 100 with a glitched HP bar. Healing at the Pokémon Center or using a healing item on it will fix this.
But checking its summary screen will reveal that its stats have changed! These stats last after battles, and stay even after saving and quitting.
HOWEVER: After your new MISSINGNO. participates in a battle and gains EXP, repeating these steps a second time will cause your MISSINGNO. to level down to 70.
While it will still keep its high stat total, it will level up to 100 as soon as it gains any more EXP and its stats will be recalculated back to that of a typical MISSINGNO.'s - and because it is not over level 100 anymore, it will no longer be eligible for this glitch. Avoid using Stadium to manage your boxes if you plan on keeping a MISSINGNO. like this one!
Also avoid placing your new high-stat MISSINGNO. in the PC or Daycare, as those will also recalcalate its base stats back into a typical MISSINGNO.'s!
