â male character youâd bring home for the holidays (favorite male character(s) of 2021)
When I was a kid, i liked turning the dial like this more than listening to the radio. Whenever I turned the dial slowly like this, I sometimes heard a faint signal that sounded unfamiliar. That signal seemed like me. A signal that no one listened to in the universe with no sound or color. Until you found me like this.Â

âForever, with love and respect, I will cherish her.â â Hwang Hee Tae YOUTH OF MAY (2021) dir. Song Min Yeop
just watched ep 5 of my liberation notes and why haven't i heard anything about the pure comedic genius of that sequence when mr. gu tried to do the dishes and the recycling and just totally gave up? i felt so seen
lowkey want someone to worship me too
i really enjoyed chang hee talking back at his father but at the same time i understand where he was coming from, although he worded it wrong. i believe he was not asking why chang hee isnât making plans for his next 60-70 years but actually until when he is going to keep working to exhaustion in a career path that clearly doesnât provide him a ladder to climb, and if it does, why is he still stuck in the same place.
there is one scene where a work colleague is telling him that he is going to quit if neither of them gets a promotion and chang hee just tells him to keep going despite of getting it or not, and i think this is exactly what his father was talking about. he shouldnât have to waste one hour after work to be on the phone with a client that isnât going to change his situation or help in any way, he is in a low hierarchy position at his company and it doesnât look like its going to change soon.
his father sounded angry because he is his kid and got a good opportunity to move on towards a better life, and that still doesnât change anything. chang hee still lives in that house, with no future in mind, just going through one day after the other.
I want to stop learning things. When I learned to swim, I couldn't swim freestyle. But since there where a lot of us, we moved on to the backstroke then the breaststroke. School was the same. I hadn't learnt the multiplication table but we still had to move on to the fractions. After that, I was just sitting there. In a club, the same thing will just happen again. Besides, nothing's fun for me.
âMi Jeong (My Liberation Notes).
OH MY GOD but mi-jeong remembering how she works at a cafe because she can imagine herself with her pretend lover next to her to help her get through mundane work, that she can pretend she's a woman who is loved and has everything she needs, AND GU WALKS INTO THE CAFE AND SILENTLY ORDERS A DRINK AND SITS NEXT TO HER WHILE SHE WORKS!!
this drama is destroying my soul and body. real love will never compare. I will not survive this show. send help.
SCREAMING when gu stops the car when he sees mi-jung walking to the bus stop, says not a single word to her, expecting her to just understand subliminally that he's offering to driver her to the station, and ki-jung sees and runs to demand a ride too, forcing mi-jung to sit in the middle which makes gu smile 'cause he's right next to her now, and then they drive by chang-hee waiting obliviously at the bus stop too. then chang-hee finally gets to the station and sees his sisters there and is like ???????? and that's how he figures out that his younger sister is dating the mysterious new guy in town that he's been obsessed with for months.
honestly these siblings are completely destroying me. they're not even dysfunctional siblings either, which is why I think I love the show so much. it's not typical antics of siblings who hate each other, or don't understand each other, or don't like each other, or what you typically see of dysfunctional families on television. they're just...strangers to each other, as much as they are deeply connected and protective, too. they don't express it the way you'd expect, but that's where the comedy comes from. actually, I love that the show makes it clear that they deeply understand each other, but basically just don't bother with each other. I really hope we get to see more of their funny dynamic
To all the people who don't relate to any character in My Liberation Notes,
How does it feel to be mentally healthy and happy?
Because happiness and mental health?
okay but ki-jung crying on the bus as she listens to a sad love song and sings along and you think it's just part of the soundtrack, but then the camera cuts to the bus driver nervously glancing into the rear view mirror at her and the music cuts and you hear her weepily singing badly to herself aloud
I should not be laughing because honestly ki-jung's storyline is really heartbreaking to me, and I know I'm the only one on here that sympathizes with her, but she's just a hilarious actress and honestly I really respect how she nails both the heartfelt scenes and the straight up comedy skits all in the same breath
after tonight ep something hit me that most of "heart-pounding" moment is not romantic, at all. i cannot stress this enough but thank you changhee for pointed out that what makes your heart race is not because you like someone but more because you know your feeling won't reciprocate yet you still want to have them because the possibility still exist. like, it's applicable to anything you desire, not only person. it's expectation that make your heart go crazy. it's the slight possibility between impossibility. i feel my heart pounding waiting for recruitment announcement but i feel calm once i know i got accepted. My heart didn't explode because I'm so happy i got accepted. i feel calm because now i know i secured the job. I feel calm when i know my crush about to marry someone. I know now because he couldn't be mine. Back then when i expect he has the slight interest in me, my heart race to the point i couldn't sleep. It's always about the expectation. It's always about human's greed & desire. Not because you like them so much. That's why most of literature that describe heart-pounding moment in romantic perspective now feels like a lie. Because at that very moment, when your heart about to jump out from your ribcage because the expectation, it feels like your whole worth being questioned. and when you, your own self, can even tell you aren't worth enough to have it, you feels so small and insignificant. it feels pitiful. and it's disgusting how you pity yourself. and it's ended up depressing. nothing about it romantic at all. it feels like dying. No wonder there's a saying that expectation is root of all heartache. It's true.
My liberation notes writer really is a brutally honest person. I really am in awe with their thought and thinking process. I feel like they already taste all bitterness in life that it does not bother them anymore to talk such mundanity in such raw, realest way possible.
these siblings...I'm....
as hard as it already was to watch gi-jeong get rejected, the comedy of the aftermath of the failed stunt is just mindnumbingly funny.
but also the parts that got to me were chang-hee just sighing sadly when he can tell immediately that his dramatic older sister got her heart broken again, and mi-jeong waiting quietly for at the bus stop all night for gi-jeong to come home so she can quietly take care of her dramatic older sister.
I've said before that what I like about this show is that it's about siblings who don't dislike each other, but just don't really bother with each other. that they're shown actually to have an incredible amount of love for each other that they just don't talk about or address or show, but also don't question. and these are the scenes that show it.
