not wanting to be outdone by the benders in the gang, sokka invents the flamethrower, the supersoaker, the leaf blower, and the concept of throwing rocks at people
they have different priorities
every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF
god iām not even through one episode of paranormal home inspectors and it rules, this lady thought she was being haunted by the wails of the restless dead but she was just listening to raccoons fuck in her attic
psychic: these are hieroglyphics⦠the spirits are trying to communicateā¦
home inspector: you put new paint over old paint and now the old paint is bleeding through, thatās why youāre not supposed to do that
homeowner: my daughterās room is always cold⦠cold like the deadā¦
home inspector: you put furniture on top of her heating vent
business owner: i got locked in the bathroom even though the door has no lock
home inspector: it has a lock. the lock is right there. on the knob.
Fun fact a scientist who is very not spiritual or superstitious began seeing corner eye hallucinations and feeling intense fear and a presence in his lab around the same time that everyone else in the building was suddenly reporting it haunted.
Determined, he found that the āhauntingsā stopped when the industrial air conditioning unit, that had just recently been installed, was turned off. Weāve found that measurable micro vibrations in a structure cause immense fear, and a feeling of a presence and corner eye hallucinations ā just like when you watch a scary movie alone at night and you see things move in the corner of your eye or are afraid to go in the cellar because youāre convinced someoneās in there.
Why?
Because many members of our species built homes in and around cliffs and caves for tens of thousands of years. And itās likely that these certain shaky vibrations give us intense fear and a need to move far away because that would have saved our lives if the cave were collapsing or unstable.
Youāll notice itās always falling apart, dilapidated homes that are āhauntedā - or very very old restored homes. These places might just be slightly structurally unsound. Thatās all.
Thatās infrasound, sounds that are below 20hz, or the limit of normal human hearing. Things that produce infrasound in nature include severe weather, earthquakes, volcanoes, tigers, alligators, rhinoceros; also known as things that can kill people. We developed an evolutionary sense of dread when our brains perceive sounds we cannot hear. The vibrations from infrasound can also vibrate the eye causing visual hallucinations.Ā
You know what also causes infrasound? A LOT of machines, especially large industrial ones. Thereās a reason haunted house stories started popping up in post industrialization. That scientist was Vic Tandy and he wrote about it in a the paper Ghosts in the Machines
āVic Tandy, experimental officer and part-time lecturer in the school of international studies and law at Coventry University, along with Dr. Tony Lawrence of the Universityās psychology department, wrote in 1998 a paper called āGhosts in the Machineā for the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research. Their research suggested that an infrasonic signal of 19 Hz might be responsible for some ghost sightings. Tandy was working late one night alone in a supposedly haunted laboratory at Warwick, when he felt very anxious and could detect a grey blob out of the corner of his eye. When Tandy turned to face the grey blob, there was nothing. The following day, Tandy was working on his fencing foil, with the handle held in a vice. Although there was nothing touching it, the blade started to vibrate wildly. Further investigation led Tandy to discover that the extractor fan in the lab was emitting a frequency of 18.98 Hz, very close to the resonant frequency of the eye given as 18 Hz by NASA. This, Tandy conjectured, was why he had seen a ghostly figureāit was, he believed, an optical illusion caused by his eyeballs resonating. The room was exactly half a wavelength in length, and the desk was in the centre, thus causing a standing wave which caused the vibration of the foil.ā
Okay I didnāt need my eyes to have a resonation frequency but thanks for that, science
This is incredibly funny without context
I beg people who know nothing of scum villain to offer their wildest guesses
I have no clue what's happening but you're right, it's funny!
I know scum villain is a gay novel of some sort so I'm going with "local bottom tries to literally ghost his ex, takes it a little too seriously."
I mean like, you're actually really close.
Painting this dark terrifies me.
Itās this new painting approach Iām still trying to experiment with toward something that feels dreamy and moody. Watercolor isnātā the most forgiving when painting this dark, but maaaan it turned out pretty dope in the end!

"I quit my birth control and feel so much better, this is proof birth control is poisoning our bodies!!!" listen I am a lucky duck who tried one form of birth control and felt great but if I had to try 80 different types I would because I don't want to get fucking pregnant. if your birth control sucks try a new type!! "everyone should quit their birth control" is a bunch of conservative-crunchy bullshit
Same goes for most types of medication btw, if your antibiotics or antidepressants or or ADHD meds are making you feel like shit, tell your doctor, they'll probably prescribe an alternative.
These are so beautiful.

sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.
it goes into effect july 25th. it'll probably effect here too, since this place allows mature content (tho not full on ns/fw)
i'm very distressed about it bc i might end up not even being able to talk to my internet friends. i don't really have any irl ones
if i have to disappear on most socials by then, you know why.
if you're in the uk like i am there IS a petition to sign on the official gov petitions website asking to consider repealing this law. it currently has almost 8k signatures and needs 10k in order for the government to even acknowledge it (and 100k for them to debate it)
idk if i can post it here but please... go sign it! and go write to your local mp if possible. they need to realize how dangerous this law is going to be for uk citizens online. it doesn't protect children, it's just privacy invading AND a huge security risk to boot
and if you are NOT in the uk, spread the word around! especially let any uk moots you know about it
We want the Government to repeal the Online Safety act.
IF YOU ARE A BRITISH CITIZEN OR UK RESIDENT ONLY PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING!!!
sorry to put these tags on blast like this but this wraps right back around to the current issue. how do you propose we verify someone is over 16? do we just trust people to not lie on the internet? people have lied about their age since since the dawn of time. also i've heard many a story of kids using their parents's credit cards to buy things online, they're just gonna start taking pictures of their ids instead. forcing people to verify their identity on the internet does nothing to protect anyone, all it does is make it easier for the government to track people's private lives and then crack down on anyone engaging in content the ruling party deems "inappropriate" (and the unfortunate trend in many countries seems to be aimed at anything lgbt+, protests, etc). also in this day and age, when it feels like there's at least one pretty big data breach every other month, it just makes it that much easier for malicious parties to steal someone's information
