rich people should not be allowed to access, collect, modify or wear ancient artifacts as fashion statements. they're historical pieces that belong in public domains & should remain accessible to everyone. this especially applies to colonial artifacts & jewellery. end of discussion.
At least half of the episodes are about fascism. Considering Serling's PTSD from WWII, I'd wager there are even more than that.
More importantly, Rod Serling had to fight with them THEN. He was inspired to create the show (aside from his own PTSD from the war) because of the horrific murder of Emmett Till. Obviously, they refused to air anything like that in the 1950s.
So he had to make it science fiction so that his statements were less threatening to the white establishment in charge of green-lighting the show.
The same for Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek. Experiences from the war, as well as the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, along with the Cold War and the Space Race involved in that. Gene had written a lot of westerns, but was smart enough to realise what Rod Serling realised:
if you set it in the future, the cis het white wealthy fascist-leaning execs running the studios are a lot less likely to realise that Serling and Roddenberry were absolutely saying something REAL about their contemporary society. It was the only way they were allowed to say what they needed to say. What so few other people would say. And one of the only ways to get audiences to LISTEN.
And if you will notice? Twilight Zone reboots have been all cancelled. The Paramount is going out of their way to cancel the vast majority of Star Trek shows out there.
Because the fucking fascist executives have finally figured out what they were doing, and what immense power both of these shows had on public consciousness.
To be clear Jordan Peele produced and worked on two seasons of a twilight zone reboot a few years ago and it was canceled bc people were complaining it was too woke and/or the execs were nervous about the messages the episodes were sending.
So like, yeah. It really can’t be made today. Not by fuckin CBS/Paramount anyway.
literally what would we do without gif makers thank you gif makers THANK YOU GIFMAKERS i love nothing more than to watch a tiny moment of a scene loop over and over and over the world is so beautiful

this trend of shitting on peer-reviewed academic studies in favor of tweeting “we already knew this was happening” is so soul-crushing. not to be an elitist cunt, but we have got to open the schools again. people genuinely seem to have forgotten that their personal lived experience isn’t indicative of the larger population, AND IF IT IS…… then you need researchers to support these assertions from a relevant data pool instead of a blog post from 2013 💀

Word already had a word count?! That WORKED?
You made a computer that can't COUNT?!
Today, Jonathan Harker finally remembers that Mina's surname isn't yet Harker... -> recalling their wedding plans -> low budget -> "OH **** I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BACK AT WORK SIX *WEEKS* AGO (no no Sister Agatha you don't need to call for Sister Brunhilde, I'm perfectly calm, it's all fine)"

"The Third Doctor was the first Doctor to dress as the opposite gender" WRONG. INCORRECT. THE SECOND DOCTOR IN THE HIGHLANDERS. This is important information!
He dressed as an old lady as a disguise! We may not have the original video recording, but we do have telesnaps!
(I couldn't be bothered going and getting them from the video so I just looked them up on google)
