15 Reasons I Will Be Poor By Spring

Haider Ackermann

There's always that one collection that makes your heart break at the beauty. For me, this season it was Haider Ackermann. His collection is rich with languid lines, luscious fabrics and an unplaceable historic charm. From dramatic scarves to daring overcoats, each individual piece is a show-stopper, and together the collection creates a world unto itself. Like a novel it is beautiful and dense and wandering, but all somehow finds itself neatly wrapped up and endlessly inviting.

Ferragamo FW '14

Ferragamo never disappoints, and this season is no exception. Striking that rare balance between understated and luxe, Ferragamo epitomizes rich textures, lush colors and luxury. The collection features a delicious colorscape of rich burgundies, navies, classic blacks, and touches of pattern that highlight the gorgeous contrast between ultra-tailored suiting and relaxed overcoats. This tailoring adds a touch of feminity to the overall silhouette while still serving up that that strong male sexiness. Sleek silhouettes are paired with warm, inviting fabrics. Interestingly, as described by style.com "Massimiliano Giornetti collects rugs. That's a hobby low on wow factor, but for a designer it makes sense. Threads are threads, whether you're knotting them for fashion or furniture. For his latest collection, Giornetti turned his back on the slightly uptight sport concept he took up for Spring and, following the example of his rugs, went for something a bit cozier."

Burberry Prorsum FW '14

If any collection can consistently make my knees weak, it's Burberry Prorsum. This season Burberry has relaxed their silhouettes without losing their impeccable polish, adding luxe feminine touches including long draping silk scarfs, large-scale prints and dreamy oversized tote bags. The collection is so texturally rich, mixing lush silks, hand-painted leathers, crafty knitwear, boho prints, and carpet bags. Prorsum designer Christopher Bailey told style.com that painter and craftman Duncan Grant became a wellspring of inspiration for the collection. The mix of painterly romance and craft-y touches added a delicious depth and richness against the classic clean knitwear and classically FW fabrics.  Oh, and I will be first in line to buy every single one of those tote bags.

JW Anderson FW '14

I can't get enough of the latest J.W. Anderson collection for FW. Playful and witty, his collection toys with womenswear silhouettes, fabrics, and deliciously exaggerated accessories. This play created an exciting new middle ground rich with warmth, whimsy and androgyny that, at points, bordered on grandma's living room: daring frills, over-sized patterns, blouses and wraps. This delicious tension of delicateness and masculinity creates a memorable new look. Also, still drooling over those thick platform boots. Yum.

Women Who Werq

Amongst the many women that I have worked with, one of the biggest fashion quandaries is always the workplace wardrobe. For any woman, a professional wardrobe is a precarious balance: On one hand, she wants to be polished, appropriate and taken seriously; at the same time, no woman wants to lose her femininity, her personality or her own sense of style. The predictable suiting styles, the drone charcoals and white dress shirts get rapidly tiresome. 

  So how does she make her professional attire work for her? Play with twists on suiting. Introducing leather jackets, bold colors, exciting textures, or adventurously cut blazers give that cue of strong suiting without going drab. Introducing these new colors and textures can transform traditional suiting. Pairing these pieces with great accessories and a playful shoe rejuvenates any work wardrobe, adding personality and life while maintaining a professional and strong image.

Reem Acra SS14

As always, Reem Acra presented a beautiful classically glamorous collection for the modern woman. Inspired by international night life, the collection ranges from weightless silks and chiffons to adventurous large-scale houndstooth. All of her pieces move with absolute fluidity, exuding glamour with intricate beading, pops of red, and lush metallics, topped off with unparalleled evening gowns.

Sophie Zinga SS14

Amongst the chaos of fashion week, Sophie Zinga presented a stasis. One of the calmest, most beautiful presentations I've been to, she presented her playful feminine new spring collection in the sun room of the penthouse at the New London Hotel. Her collection featured bold luscious spring colors and wonderfully textural laces styled with playful neon shoes. Her collection exuded the essence of the sun room: understated, calm glamour.

Ricardo Seco SS14

Housed in a warehouse in the meat-packing district, Ricardo Seco's SS14 collection was deliciously rich in texture: luscious asian silks, buttery quilted leathers. The collection creates this beautiful tension between the punky, rough contemporary styling (very much reflected in the space) and the gentleness and sensitivity of the delicate silks and soft leathers. With gorgeous accessories, playful varsity jackets, and fabulous sunglasses the collection is the perfect way to add delicious new touches to a spring wardrobe.
