Remaining plot holes in GSGW, that seeing the track record probably are just hiding a "funny" plot twist:

Name card - he got it at the start, it got mentioned by Kwak, then only got mentioned much later during the hospital story in company with the team leader from branch office but not really resolved

What of Kim Soleum's items hasn't been sold or lost yet. In particular - Eun Haje's potion, roulette darkness from the cheerful institute that resembled the one at the pop-up store, that he pocketed but presumably didn't give back due to crash landing in a cult with director Ho, egg light body, church scripture in deposit, his copy of the music box from merch box.

Braun's speaking bubbles changes at some point from - to []. I assumed it was -when talking throu good friend, and [] when speaking more directly throu their connection, but I'm not sure. It might have just been stylistic choice.

Kim Soleum stated in the first chapter that he wrote a ghost story himself at some point. I don't believe that in a novel so convoluted, at no point it won't come to bite him in his ass.

J3 saw an entrance to the darkness that contaminated him in hanbit library (which means it's located in Segwang) and silently swore to come back. He couldn't have done it during time loop arc because library closed down.

J3 in general. For such an important character, both plot vise and personally to Kim Soleum, we still don't know much about him.

The whole apocalypse thing.

What happened to all the Heuns? Especially the ones other than the two we know?

Lodge keeper/amusement park manager's contract period coming to an end.

Segwang special city aftermath. Citizens? Students? Agents?

Director Cheong was driven out not defeated, so she will return. I still don't get to what extent was she driven out? Is the Jin Nasol thing her taking revenge?

Regarding Jin Nasol - why is she using the painkillers? Is it just addiction? Because I would think that one of Daydream healing potions would be more helpful and more cost efficient than endless painkillers?

Daydream's security special team. Especially that employee who helped during the hospital arc.

The whole Lee Kangheon thing. Was it agent Choi and he forgot it for some reason? Was it a different mystery that Choi stumbled on on accident while searching for an in into Daydream?

Probably more points in the future.

Continuing the trend of meeting the most unexpected characters first in this part... I'll put my bet on my girl Kang Yihak!

Listen, I'm pretty sure that if she would get paid enough, and got some kind of regeneration item at the end, she would be totally alright with being eaten alive a bit. So it's not even that impossible for that to happen and not even be sad!

But realistically it probably will be some of the Cleaners who can't adhere to the rules. Ooooh, maybe just a civilian, but still familiar face could be fun. Like that one civilian that escaped with them in Return to Amusement Park Arc, somewhere near the end of part one. Or those three teenagers from Looky Mart.

Spoilers for GSGW part 3 chapter 406

Honestly I was really exited for a week of Kim Soleum being just Monster Rookie/Destruction King Rookie without holding himself back and wrecking normal darknesses. I miss those sometimes.

So I'm a bit disappointed that we got the Very Important Extremely Plot Relevant Resort Arc on literally the first day.

I kinda hope that it doesn't get entirely resolved rn? I mean, we find some answers or clues, but not too much. I especially don't want Braun back yet, he has an (entirely intentional) tendency to steal the show from other side-characters.

I do hope that Kim Soleum finds the room in the resort that was used as the wrist tattoo storage. The author intentionally made it so we can't know what items he had left in there. I mean he genuinely used at least four different methods to make it imposible to keep track, I'm in awe of how gracefully he got rid of that potential bag of plot holes.

Personally I think I would be happiest if:

a) He finds the room in question and some clues but has to come back later to deal with the Manager once he has more resources.

b) He finds the room in question and some clues, one of them being that Blue Dragon abandoned the park to go join Supernatural Disaster Management Bureau, and proceeds to tear the resort to the ground. (That might get him in trouble with cleaning agency tho.)

Spoilers for GSGW part 3 chapter 406

Today's chapter implies some really weird things.

Because. I did wonder about the Lodge Keeper/Resort Manager contract before.

And even by that very lose calculations, there had been around 640 days of their contract left. Hell, probably less than that because I do not remember how much time was left between that conversation and the end of part 2, and I don't know how accurate was Kim Soleum estimation.

The problem is: according to Jin Nasol it's been three years since Kim Soleum disappeared. (Source: chapter 378, using Director's Ho dissaparence as a marker)

Lee Gyeol also said that it's been three years. (Source: chapter 384)

When Kim Soleum said that it's been three years, Back Saheon didn't protest or correct him. (Source: chapter 392)

That's three different accounts from very different places, even if Jin Nasol apparently lost awareness of a little bit more than 5 months of her life passing.

But the 640 days means actually less than two years of contract left.

So how he hell did the Lodge Keeper/Resort Manager's contract just ran out, 27 hours ago? (Source: chapter 406)

I see two possible reasons for that:

a) The contract did run out when it should, but it was only "formally concluded" after Kim Soleum was recycled.

For that to be true between being spat out by recycling machine (end of chapter 404) and that welcome to the job speech (start of chapter 405), around 25 hours must have passed ± 2 hours for the time Kim Soleum spend cleaning the lobby.

It's possible since apparently Branch Trio made plans, and new Researcher arrived in between those two chapters.

It also would impile that untill that specific moment, when Kim Soleum in the Z999 body got recycled while keeping full awareness of his Kim Soleum self, he wasn't 100% Kim Soleum, but now he is.

b) That theory that actually the time runs the same between dimensions, and Kim Soleum had been in DER dimension for two years and only now regained his sense of self is correct.

For that to be true the contract period would have to only been counted when Kim Soleum is in the same universe as Lodge Keeper/Resort Manager.

The one other thing connected with Lee Seonghae that got a lot exposition when compared to actual plot impact had been that creepy doll copy of her created by Cheerful Research Institute Toy Maker, so she could borrow it's legs.

So I'm betting it will come up when dealing with whatever/whoever that Lee Seonghae we just met is.

tw: suicide topic I want to write a post about how ive seen the gsgw/gdcg fandom use the word suicidal and how often certain characters are called ‘suicidal’ by fandom. but bc it’s such a sensitive topic i want to be extra cautious

would very much welcome explanations on answers, since a major part of the difficulty is that people have different experiences or definitions of “suicidal”, and I want to make sure my definition isn’t somehow wildly incorrect or insensitive. Also feel free to send an anon ask about it to explain (won’t post it), since I know this is a sensitive topic!

I don't think she is suicidal. I think she is dealing badly with her chronic pain and internalised ableism (at multiple points she uses self deprecating language, mocks herself for her painkiller dependency, doesn't try to defend herself when being insulted even though in previous part her personality was definitely more prideful), and that it sometimes shows itself as a self destructive behaviors like mixing alcohol with medicine, or seeing herself as lesser and so not worth saving.

That last point could be read as passively suicidal from some perspective, but I think differently. If you analyze her behaviour in previous parts, you can see that Jin Nasol is very efficiency/results driven. In the arcs she appeared in (I'm thinking amusement park, Tamra train, mermaid grave) she was shown to put the mission first, and people second, sometimes even further. She was openly willing to use other people to end the mission quicker/more effectively (aiming at the contaminated child instead of agents, wanting to kill the researcher, wanting to end the Tamra train disaster quicker at cost of passengers mental health etc), but also didn't really protest against preserving lives if it wasn't necessary (after just one argument about Jang Hewoon's death being potentially unhelpful to the mission she clearly lessened her antagonistic behaviour towards him, when it wasn't against her best survival chances anymore she helped grab the mermaid children to the escape pods, she let Kim Soleum do his cultist act for long time before blowing up etc).

So I think it's just a result of that philosophy - now she sees herself as someone she wouldn't bother saving, so she expects that others would also not waste their resources on her.

But given a shadow of a chance she is quick to grab it and fight for her life.

(Wow that turned out longer than I planned already. At this point an answer about Jin Nasol ends, and my own thoughts about the Kim Soleum thing begin.)

As a person who is passively suicidal, I also don't think Kim Soleum is really all that suicidal. His actions seem suicidal to other people tho, cause he never shares his information before acting.

Like I remember like three instances when he was somewhat suicidal in the novel, and all occured when he was in really bad mental health state because of external factors. As in the first time was near the start of the novel when there was a throwaway line that he'd rather die than go into some darkness (so pretty mild, and he was in constant stress after recently "transmigrating"), second was the Jisan Village. This time was far more serious, I would say he was passively suicidal there - not really aiming towards death but thinking about it to the point his behaviour changed. BUT it was caused by the utter shit fuck of a sleepless week he just had. Resort, Choi and Jisan happened basically one after another, with only sleepless night in-between. Third time would be the courthouse in Segwang City, and okey he was actively suicidal there, but it was caused by not dealing with his contamination and emotions at all. Just kinda culmination of constant stress and mixed emotions that really should be celebrated as more cathartic than it was, but I feel got lost somewhere because of the Segwang train arc, director Ho revelations, and all that.

And the thing with passive suicidality is that I'm never really not suicidal, just with varying intensity.

Whatever the problem I currently have, I always consider killing myself a solution to some degree.

"I'm failing my college class" - great, if I kill myself I won't have to deal with it

"I argued with someone I care about" - oh would you look at that, if I killed myself their life would be better without me

"I'm hungry but there is nothing I wanna eat" - have you considered dead people are never hungry

Just watching a movie I'm like "I would kill myself if I was in her shoes".

Depending on the day, it's there for a quarter of second, or it's in my head for hours.

For the longest time I thought it's normal and everyone is like that, but apparently no.

And Kim Soleum except for those very specific situations, doesn't really consider suicide as an option all that often. Even when I really would in his place.
