Merry christmas and a happy new year :D
Arts and crafts with the nemos!
After the most scientific Friday filling forms and dive logs, matching mantas and wandering through whale shark encounters then only option for 2 Aussies and a SAFFA is to have a good night! Friday night was Anna's snorkle test as she competed her DMT. Basically they taped a funnel to the end of a snorkle, put it on her and pour any concoctions down they can think of. Then she had to give a full dive briefing of Manta Reef with music blasting in her ears and acting like a German chicken. From the point on ward the party had definitely started! Dancing, swimming chilling - all the good mozambeats vibes in the air. Naturally Saturday was a lazy lazy day, watching movies and eating greasy food. And dodging the rain as we wandered the markets. Last night we found some new friends and did a slight bar bounce through paradise from turtle cove all the way to Dino's. More dancing, laughing, mid night swimming and the list goes on! What a way to spend my last weekend her In heaven! How am I possibly going to leave this place?
TGIF... Rather slow day here at MMF. Logging dives and updating the systems while Jess and Jeremy help with identifying whale sharks on www.whaleshark.org But it's Friday and everyone knows what that means! Its dranking time!! Tonight, mozambeats, snorkle test, absolute jol! Let's get the weekend started with some super citizen science to kick start it all!!
What an adventure today with Jo and Libby from MMF. Headed off to zavora just down the coast to fix up an acoustic station on witches hat dive spot! Such awesome diving but sadly no megafauna for us intrepid conservationists today. But then it was off to Tofo market for some major bartering with Jess, my fellow volunteer and bartering extravaganza. Found the cutest little moz kitty that I really wish needed a home.
awesome drawing of our Dive site today ;)
potato grouper.
Such a chilled out, exciting and education filled day today here in paradise. dropping down in Reggies a new little reef here in tofo. we were found by a very friendly (border line creepy) potato grouper that just wanted to play by chasing a number of us up and down the reef. We also encountered some sleeping leopard sharks, thousands upon thousands of red fanged trigger fish and a few lion fish to brighten up the day.
back on land we had a super fantastic lesson from the amazing Simon Pierce (the whale shark king) himself. About how to log whale sharks and figure out who's who's in the zoo with amazing NASA technology that reads their spot patterns like constellations. Then it was back to the office to build an all new internet based dive log site for Underwater Africa.
time for a salty swim, sandy tan session and a 2M beer on the Casa Barry deck.

Today was the ultimate day! The marine biologists dream. A marine nature fanatics wonderland!
With a 25 min boat ride down south to manta reef we kept our eyes peeled for any whale sharks needing a cuddle and we found 2. One shy little male and a cheeky female. And boy where they magnificent, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to them.
Then it was onward to manta reef! And we were not disappointed. As we dropped down we were greeted by a not so sure, but friendly logger head turtle and only 5 minuets later got a spectacular show by a female reef manta.
This is what tofo scuba diving is about! Thanks peri- Peri for the amazing dive!!
