#68: Santa Cruz, California, USA - Santa Cruz Classic Dot Blonde Ale @ Santa Cruz Boardwalk . Last year I attended a wedding in Santa Cruz. It was quite nice. . Today I saw the movie “US”, which was also quite nice. However, I shall never again go back to Santa Cruz... . Great movie. Go see it!
#67: Osaka, Japan - Asahi Super Dry @ Dōtonbori Canal, looking to the giant, neon, Asahi Super Dry sign, in the pouring rain.
#66: Stratford-upon-Avon, England - Quill, the Shakespeare’s Birthplace Beer @ Shakespeare’s Birthplace
#65: Hong Kong, China - Tsingtao Beer @ Victoria Peak
In all my travels, this is the only place I’ve lost my wallet. It may have have been stolen right as I was taking this photo. Always be careful in touristy spots when you’re sleep deprived and distracted!
On the plus side tho, the view is pretty great!
#64
: New York City, USA - Sam Adams Boston Lager @ Hamilton: An American Musical at the Richard Rodgers Theatre
.
Lucky enough to find some reasonably priced last minute tickets and discovered that Hamilton actually lives up to the hype. Not many things do!
#63
: Charlotte, North Carolina - Southern Girl Blonde @ Sycamore Brewing
.
There are so many awesome breweries in and around Charlotte that it’s hard to post them all, so here’s just one I enjoyed! Good work, folks!
#62
: Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia - Prickly Moses Otway Ale @ the 12 Apostles
#61
: Granada, Spain - Cerveza Alhambra Reserva 1925 @ The Alhambra
.
.
The Alhambra was stunning, obviously, but the best part about Granada was that everywhere you went you got free tapas with every beer! Some places it was a ham sandwich, some places gave mystery seafood, some just slung you a plate of chips, but everywhere gave something! Pub crawl without worrying about food. Bueno!
#60
: Tallinn, Estonia - A. Le Coq Premium @ Raekoja Plats (Tallinn Old Town Square, facing the Church of the Holy Ghost)
#59
: Kraków, Poland - Okocim Piwo @ Rynek Główny (Main Square)
#58
: Tikal, Guatemala - Gallo Cerveza @ Tikal National Park (Tikal Temple I)
.
I didn’t even need to pack a beer for this, as I wandered around the ruins of the ancient city of Yax Mutal, a little girl ran up and sold me a beer. It was even cold! What a magical place!
.
Tikal was used as part of the planet Yavin IV in Star Wars, and is the only place I’ve seen coatimundi in the wild. I love those guys!
#57
: Kamakura, Japan - Kamakura Moon Beer @ Kōtoku-in (Great Buddha in Kamakura)
.
A short train ride from Tokyo, Kamakura is well worth a day trip. It’s a beach town with temples, birds of prey overhead, and seaweed hung on racks to dry on the beach.
.
And a giant Buddha. If you’re nearby, drop in and say hello to the big fella.
.
.
#56: Melbourne, Australia - Young & Jackson Naked Ale @ Chloé, inside Young & Jackson Pub. . If you’re in Melbourne, you need to stop and raise a glass to Chloé. . She’s been here for over a hundred years, and will hopefully be here 100 more.
#55: Munich (München), Germany - Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier @ Löwenbräu-Festhalle (beer tent) @ Oktoberfest Munich . The beers are too small..... but if you ever get the chance, Oktoberfest in Munich is something you need to see for yourself to understand what it’s like. . One piece of advice tho, avoid the tourist tents!! You can find drunken Australians anywhere, which is great and all, but spend your time here with the awesome locals.
#54: Kotor, Montenegro - Nikšićko Pivo @ Castle of San Giovanni . No matter how hard you look, or what James Bond claims, there is no “Casino Royale” in Montenegro... still nice tho!
#53: Osaka, Japan - Asahi Super Dry @ Sumo Wrestling Tournament (honbasho) at Ōsaka Prefectural Gymnasium . One of the greatest sporting events I’ve been to. Bouts start with lower grades in the morning and build up to the champions in the early evening, with a new match up happening about every 5 minutes. That’s a lot of sumo, and it’s all exciting and intensely brutal. . If you haven’t seen sumo, think about the big dudes smacking into each other in the NFL. Sumo is that, but basically nude. All the power, with zero protection. Just think about how insane that is. . If you go, make sure you take time to explore the arena. I’ve never been to a professional sporting event that lets you wander around and see the athletes up close so easily. You can end up standing right next to these guys, and it not only gives you a sense of their giant size and height, but seeing the welts and bruises that cover their bodies shows you just how insanely brutal this sport is. Fantastic experience.
