Do you think you are able to hire my friend?”
You didn’t think it would be an issue. Drake has been here for a couple of months and other than the nonstop flirting he’s doing a great job, so when he asked if his roommate could work on the weekends and over the summer you saw no issue with it.
Your first impression of him? He’s beautiful. Very fluffy white tail, the very tips of the fur look to be airbrushed with brown, same with his ears. His white ears are pointed but not overly fluffy, but the very tip of his ears seem to have the same brown. There is only one issue. He’s not very affectionate.
“I was hoping I could work in the kitchen. I don’t really have the personality to be on the floor.”
“You most certainly have the looks for it.”
And you both went silent. God. You have been around your flirty servers for too long and you think saying things like this is completely normal.
“Wait wait wait! That’s not what I mean! I mean a lot of the guys with longer fur are normally out on the floor.” You try to cover that up quickly. You need to spend less time on the floor.
“I can still work in the kitchen though, right?”
“No no no! Absolutely not!”
“Napoleon, you aren’t even the kitchen manager!”
“I will not have long hair in the kitchen!”
You knew this was going to be the issue. Your shoulders slouch over and point over at Vlad. “He’s as fluffy as Leonardo!”
“Yeah but he’s the manager so I don’t do anything about that.”
You groan. You’re the boss here, why are you arguing with your employees like this? You turn to Galileo. “Can you try a week on the floor? If you truly hate it I will switch you to the kitchen.”
Galileo was a bit desperate. He moved here for college and is working as an intern but it can only offer him so much, and the hours he can work are already limited enough. A kitchen or server job will be the most flexible and he quickly found out that not many places will hire a guy with ears and a tail.
You could tell his thoughts were going a mile a minute.
“Perfect!” You smile bright at him.
“Oh he’s not even going to be working the same shift as you!”
You have hopes that Galileo can work out. Isaac and Mozart were awkward at first too. As long as you stick him with Comte he will learn just like the others did. Everything will be just fine.
You stay behind the register and watch him from a distance to see how he is doing, and you can tell why he didn’t want to be out on the floor. He’s stiff, not too personable, maybe a little quiet. You don’t think you’ve noticed this tail twitch once. Even Theo’s does. Not even Comte’s charm can rub off on him.
“So what are you in college for?” Comte realized that if he wants to know anything about Galileo that he is going to have to just ask.
“Astronomy and physics.” He is very short with his answer. Comte was showing him how to use the espresso machine and he is concentrating on doing it right.
Comte thinks for a moment, first wondering how he ended up here, but then wondering why that sounds familiar. “Oh wait! I think Isaac is going for the same thing.”
Comte looks around the floor for a moment. “I don’t think you have been here while he has been working yet. I will have to ask ma cherie to have you two work together.”
“Hmm.” Galileo just sorta nods and keeps messing with the espresso machine.
“So change of plans.” After Galileo was with Comte for a week you had a different idea. “Comte seems to think you would be a good barista, and since we don’t have anyone for the evenings, you can do that and help out in the kitchen.”
“As long as I don’t have to be out on the floor.” He hated that. He is not good with customers and he wants to talk for as little as possible. His tail did sway a little when he was agreeing. That is the only way you have been able to tell that he is in a good mood.
In fact, the only time you have seen his tail sway in some way was when he was talking to Isaac. You assume they were talking about their majors since Isaac’s tail wouldn’t stop moving.
“Great! This weekend I’ll have Faust show you around the kitchen.”
You had a feeling those two could get along. How him and Drake are roommates you will never understand
