This one time I ate so much salmon I could barely move, and then my mom was like oh have some blueberry pie for desert, and in that moment I understood what it is like to be a grizzly bear

i'm kinda scared and not very politically inclined, do you think the united states is going to get bombed by russia?
There is a 0% chance that this will happen, and to be honest with you I find it hard to have sympathy for Americans feeling nervous about all of this. People in the US are the most protected-from-consequences people on the planet. There won’t be a draft and we will not be the victims, Ukrainians will. No one is invading your local McDonalds

hey girls… did you know… that um… bisexual people are allowed to refer to their same gender attraction as gay or, when it applies, refer to other traits about themselves as gay, without someone who got their women and gender studies degree on tumblr.edu correcting them

Shocking how many people don’t know that hens lay non-fertilized eggs and think the yolk they’re eating is a baby chicken
once tried desperately to make my friend understand that yolks were not, like, a liquified potentiality of chicken, and she looked at me for a while and then said, "but they’re both yellow."
Behold
A chicken

I think the most damage this site has done to me is making me think "It's fucken wimdy" when it is, in fact, fucken wimdy outside.
Do they not have skulls!? Why is it mushy there!?!? @bunjywunjy
well of course beluga has a skull!! that's just not where it is.
see, you wouldn't necessarily pick up on this, but beluga skulls (and most cetacean skulls in general) are pretty much
flat...
so what's going on up there? well, most of the beluga's head is taken up by soft tissue and a large organ called the melon, which is basically a big ol waterballoon of semiliquid fat!
(boob. it's a head boob.)
this organ is found in every toothed whale and dolphin species on the planet and it's INCREDIBLY important, because the melon is what lets them echolocate!
the actual sound-producing organ is inside their nasal passage of all places, which sits up behind there, but the melon is what's actually used to fine-tune the soundwaves into the laser-accurate pinpoints that dolphins and toothed whales are so famous for.
tldr: without their head boob, belugas and their relatives would be literally flying blind!
does slapping the melon like that hurt it ? like does it affect how it works or anything
@weirdgirlwambsgans @vampire-juicebox you guys are in luck bc it does not! Belugas will squish their melons voluntarily against things like rocks and glass. Think of it like when you squish your butt (but at the same time not, bc they have no nerve endings beyond the skin) they even voluntarily let humans play with it!
This is a strong creature, if that hurt or bothered it, you would know
There are many benefits to being a marine biologist
I feel like a significant portion of dean’s behaviour, including the insane shit he says, can be explained as a boundary-seeking technique. like this is a guy who was chronically ignored and neglected by his father, socially isolated as a child and adolescent, had almost no structure or routine to his life, and was forced to grow up with a level of responsibility that no child should be expected to take on, let alone comprehend. so I think he figured out pretty quickly that the best way to get attention from people is to be inflammatory and provocative, especially with authority figures, but also with the people in his life that he cares about. it’s also the most effective way to find a boundary - he’ll say something rude or ridiculous and someone will push back on it, even if it’s just a simple “dude really?” normally you find boundaries with people by connecting with them and communicating with them, which takes effort and practice and repetition, none of which dean had, or at least not on any consistent basis. and because john was erratic and prone to bursts of anger and depression, there was no consistency even with his own parent. a joke one day will piss john off and then next day he’ll find it hilarious and then the next day he won’t react at all.
so a lot of dean’s humour is deliberately inappropriate and inflammatory. and like a lot of the times it’s funny! it’s an integral part of how dean copes with reality. he’s desperately searching for some sort of structure in his life that he never got as a child so he may as well amuse himself while he does it. but that also comes at the cost of him being prone to outbursts when he’s upset. he wants somebody to acknowledge his feelings so he lashes out because he assumes he’ll be ignored otherwise, which is not a healthy or responsible way of garnering a reaction, but it’s the behaviour he defaults to. and like you can debate how much he’s conscious of that, but I think it’s a behaviour that would start to quickly fade away if he had more stable relationships in his life as well as someone to call him out when he’s being an asshole (which is what bobby did! I miss bobby).
also this is really maladapted behaviour obviously, in much the same way that a lot of his hook ups are. he doesn’t get what he wants by behaving this way most of the time but he doesn’t know what else to do. he doesn’t want serial casual sex, he wants intimacy, but he doesn’t know how to get that outside of sex so that’s what he goes for. similarly, Dean doesn’t know how to get positive attention, so he settles for any attention at all, even if it’s negative, even if it’s violent, and he gets more consistent results by being inflammatory than he does by being good, so that’s what he ends up getting most of the time.
like honestly I don’t think Dean is contrary and provocative because he likes debate and conflict. I think deep down he really just wants peace and quiet, but a lack of conflict in his life almost always coincides with being ignored (dad’s gone for a week and nobody’s fought, but that means I’m alone with Sam and can’t do anything I want, etc), so I think he assumes he needs to start fights just to remind people that he’s around. which, again, that’s not fair to or pleasant for the people around him, but I think it’s a problem that’s relatively easy to solve just by giving Dean some consistent positive reinforcement. once he figures out that people won’t forget about him the moment he stops being inflammatory, the fight will go out of him pretty quickly.
I just think some attention could fix me
