INDIA & CANADA: PAINTING: MEERA SETHI
Artist Statement: âForeign Returned explores South Asian identities through time and space while offering a contemporary interpretation of iconography from 16th to 19th century Indian miniature paintings. Local Australian flora and fauna, an Indian tiffin, a Canadian passport, and a Komagata Maru pendant are some of the reference in these works to experiences of transnational movement. These diasporic portraits question what is foreign and where is home.â

Van Hai (Laos) Lullabye for a War 2015
Spending tonight digging for musicians from Laos. Came across this gem deep in the wormhole.
Tin Whiskers (Bangladesh) Vulnerable
I spent the morning excavating the netz for electronic music from Bangladesh. Hereâs one of my fav finds.
June Marieezy Blasé, 2015
2am in the wormhole. Today my homie in Manila hipped me to some Filipino music blogs, Vandals On the Wall and Radio Republic, where I commenced to spend the deep hours of the evening while eating pie and accidentally downing half a bottle of wine. The thing about these music binges is you get to a point where things start blurring and you canât tell if you like a song or youâre just trying to like it, and then you start questioning if you even have any authority to judge music in the first place, especially after being at CVS and Shazamming a song you really dig only to learn that itâs Katy Perry. And then a song just cuts through the noise, because itâs soulful and funky and ridiculous and reminds you that your ears are indeed worthy. Tonight that track was âBlasĂ©â by June Marieezy. What a fucking find.
OJ Law (Kulua Lumpur, Indonesia) âIntroverts (Pradanaâs LOLLERskate Remix)â (2015)
I canât remember when was the last time I spent the entire day excavating and enjoying music! Thereâs so much out there, amazing sounds by artists with just a handful of followers â songs that have only been played a couple dozen times. Hereâs one of my favorite finds today, OJ Law from Indonesia.
Emerald Four (Kyoto, Japan) Love Labyrinth (2014)
Iâm working on a new pet project which has led me deep down a wormhole of Asian electronic music. I took some leads last night from this excellent piece on the Fader by Juliet Liu on the Beijing underground. The result of an afternoon of net digging is this eery but quite lovely video.
Yall I'm getting way too excited about hosting & rocking at #KollaborationDC tonite đ”đ”đ”đ”đ” Hella talent out here in the #DMV *plus* it's in Maryland so I get to cop some good Asian food on my way home?? #score đŻđ±đŻđČđŻđđŻ (at Fitzgerald Theatre of Rockville Maryland)
