Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
A Book of Creatures by @a-book-of-creatures doesn't update these days but is another thing along these lines, really huge, fully illustrated all by the author and cites all sources
Danny is in Gotham for college, and during finals month the Joker goes on a spree. After the Joker breaks out of Arkham for the THIRD time Danny in a fit of sleep deprived pique does a bit of research, breaks into Arkham, and swaps prisoner transfers so that the Joker is taken to a prison out of state.
Itās only after finals are over, and he has slept for two days, that he calls Tucker to check on his half brained plan, to find out it worked? Somehow it worked. The Joker is now at a different prison where he has no corrupted guards etc to help him breakout and is now stuck there.
The bats only find this out when their paranoia of āwhy hasnāt the Joker broken out yet?ā kicks in.
big fan of Bruce refering to any of his children as "oh yea thats my kid from my [blank] marriage"
He's never been married. No one except for the kid he's refering to and the other "parent" knows who he means.
Dick? Yeah, that's the kid from his first marriage. He and Clark have never been romantically involved, but that's Step-Dad Clark to you, Damian.
(Barbara is his Step-Child. He's currently in that Marriage Number Zero with her Father. He knows it. They don't talk about it. She calls him Dad on weekends.)
Jason? Mhm, that brief stint as Brave Little Warrior makes him child from marriage numero dos, with Diana, of course. Go kiss your mothers cheek, don't be disrespectful now.
Tim? That's BatCat's child, yeah. Marriage number three and actually they never divorced but its #Complicated so don't ask him any questions about it, he gets sensitive.
Damian is the youngest but somehow he managed to be the child of Divorce Number One, and no one is willing to explain that one to anyone who asks.
Steph? She's somehow both the second child of marriage number three and the grandchild of the child from marriage number one. It's complicated. She carries a whiteboard and red string around and is willing to explain it to anyone who asks.
Cass? He created her via mitosis. She's the child of his first birth. People don't know how to deal with that sentence when Bruce says it. That's why he keeps saying it. She says it too. People have stopped asking and they say it anyway.
Duke? The only child of Situationship Three. Hal is offended that's he's third.
"Okay, but consider- you're the only one who I had a child with, Hal."
"Spooky. We didn't have fucking shit. He- He's black."
"Are you being racist right now, Papa?"
"I'm- we're both white!"
"Are you a deadbeat dad?"
"No, no- fuck you! He's mine and Selina's, now. You don't get any claim, White Fuck."
"You're white!"
"Sorry- are we implying that you and Selina did-"
"Not like you! It's like a disease with you!"
"Guys you're not even married I can't be a child of divorce like Damian... also Lina already has two children."
"She can have another. It's not like B isn't doing it."
"So you agree he's mine-"
"Nope, I'm taking the rights."
"YOU DIDNT WANT HIM-"
"And so yet another child falls the victim of the foster system. Can I train with assassins too?"
Jazz: That's good. We want rich customers. Just smile and get them to the back room for thier session. That's all you have to do.
Danny: Fine.
Dick: *Ringing counter bell* Hello?
Danny walking out with a fake smile: Hello! Welcome to Fenton Escape Rooms. Are you ready for a challenging fun filled hour of mystery?
Damian: This is idiotic. We will solve everything in five minutes.
Dick: Thats why we are each going in alone and going to beat each other's time.
Danny's eye twitching: The rooms are quite challenging
Tim pitying: I'm sure you worked hard on them. We just tend to breeze through escape rooms.
Danny uses his ghost powers to make the rooms and grows deeply offended: Really? If you're so sure, how about we make things interesting?
Jason: Oh that is interesting. What are we betting?
Danny: You take on our most difficult room as a group. If you can't solve it in an hour, I win, and you have to promote my business on your social media.
Damian: And when we win what do we gain?
Danny: Well what do you want?
Cass: A date
Danny: Pardon?
Cass smiling: You go on a date with one of us.
Danny: Who is the date with?
Cass looking around her group: I'm sure there are a few interested here.
Danny: Deal. Good luck to you all. The Ghost Zone is not a easy room to escape from
Damian threatening: This will be easy. Get ready to waste your time being treated like a King by my overly emotional siblings. They will romance you so well, we'll be planning a wedding.
Danny equal as threatening: I look forward to it brat.
What if, plot twist, they actually do beat it it? Sure its much harder then normal for them and they almost don't make it but they do. After all they train their entire lives to be detectives and like it or not Danny has only been doing this for a while compared to them, though the fact it was so down to the buzzer really shows Danny's skills.
Still the batfam does feel bad for being so condescending and apologize and offer he doesn't actually have to go on a date with them but Danny, mollified by the apology and the fact they were right even if they nearly lost, says he agreed to their terms and is willing. They still him promote on their socials anyways.
Idk how they choose or who actually wants to, maybe he does one with each but its easy to figure out by the end the one he was really interested in even if he does mesh well with multiple or even all of them. He's lowkey annoyed he actually has a really good time and damn [insert batfam member name] is cute too, he's so screwed.
Also in my head Danny is somewhere around Jason's age which makes him eligible for Dick (is about 4-6 years older then Jason), Jason (roughly same age as Danny), Tim (who is around around 3-5 years younger then jason-ish?), Cass (same age as jason) or Steph (year older then tim).
Note, those ages fit with my personal headcons on the batfams ages but can depend on your own hcs and can fit in any timeline they are all adults.
[I'm personally leaning twords Dick becuase its a rare ship and I think those two would be cute lol]
Oh and Damian was not joking and has been planning their wedding, mostly out of spite and because later on he begrudgingly likes Danny (and because it was surprisingly enjoyable though he will not admit it)
Christine de Pizan did not sit down at her desk and write The Book of the City of Ladies, advocating for womenās education and finding value in women of all social classes and backgrounds, in 1405 for this.
a woman was the first known author/poet in 2300BC - Enheduanna
the first novel in recorded history was written by a woman in 1010AD - Murasaki Shikibu
the earliest example of science fiction was written by a woman in 1666 - Margaret Cavendish
horror science fiction was popularised by a teenage girl in 1818 - Mary Shelley
a Scotswoman expanded childrensā stories from moralising tales into anarchic adventures in the mid 1800s, well before it became popular in the early 20th century - Catherine Sinclair
the masked/costumed hero archetype that inspired Batman and Zorro was created by a woman in 1905 - Baroness Emma Orczy
And while she is problematic as all get out, we all know who is to blame for popularising Boarding School fiction (which is a huge inspiration of She Who Must Not Be Named) from the 1930s onwards - Enid Blyton
Thank god that Joanne Rowling broke ground for female authors by publishing under her initials to obfuscate her gender at her editorās insistence that a womanās work wouldnāt sell, and then, after becoming one of the best known authors of our era, switching it up and just straight up publishing under a male pseudonym.
The idea of ābut everyone knows thatā needs to stop.
I saw a post about someone chiding Millennials for not knowing about JKRowlings transphobia, and asking how it is at all possible that people can exist in the world and the internet and, you know, not know.
Which I mean, I get. It is so present in so many of my online spaces that it seems astounding that someone could simply be ignorant! It feels impossible!
But let me tell you a story:
I went on a girls trip with a bunch of friends. All of us are rather incredibly liberal and all of us are incredibly online.
One girl would not stop talking about Harry Potter.
At one point, another girl asked her why she was ok with supporting it, and she had no real clue that JK Rowling was at all transphobic. She had heard that she likes to support Lesbian causes and thought āoh ok cool!ā And that was it. She was AGOG with the news and rather horrified.
I must once again emphasize that she was an incredibly online person. Sheās a foodie and a restaurant blogger.
Later in the trip we were picking restaurants and I suggested one I found on Google, and she gasped at me. Actually gasped, asking how I could ever be okay picking that one.
The shock mustāve been on my face, because she then told me all of the shitty things that restaurateur does. He abuses staff. Underpays them. Fires them on a whim. Is known for being one of the worst people to his employees in the entire restaurant business on this coast.
And she was so shocked I had never heard of this. Because in her mind, I was just as online as her. And in her online world, EVERYONE knew about this guy.
So I think the moral of this story is: always approach the other person with some empathy. Even online people, even people you think MUST know about how bad people are, may not have heard. It may truly be just them being on a different sphere of the internet than you.
So be gentle, be kind when letting people know they might not have heard about the cancellation of XYZ person. Donāt assume that everyone knows all the same info as you.
By all means, let them know so they can make informed decisions, but being kind will go a lot further than attacking them for some info they might not know yet.
An adaptation of Sherlock Holmes set in a world in which the fictional character/literary juggernaut Sherlock Holmes, and all the subsequent adaptations thereof, still exist.
Sherlock Holmes (pronounced Holl-mess, as he is constantly reminding people) just had the misfortune of having parents who really liked the books, and his attitude towards his fictional counterpart is pretty much the same as that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Sherlock runs a Youtube Theory channel called Mysteries Unwrapped with Sherlock Holmes. He has received no less than seven cease and desist letters from the Conan Doyle estate, all of which he has so faded managed to rebuff by pointing out that that's literally his name.
(No he won't change his name. He's Sherlock Holmes the real live human person. Let Sherlock Holmes the non existent fictional character change his name.)
John is Sherlock's flatmate. Sherlock almost refused to live with him once he realised that it would mean staying with a medical student named John, and only gave in once John pointed out that: a) he's a biomedical student, which is completely different from an md, and b) his surname isn't Watson.
It's now been three years, which is long enough for them to have developed a genuine friendship, and for John to have a) started working towards his PhD in biotechnology, and b) for him to start dating somebody with the surname Watson.
Sherlock can feel the narrative closing in.
His Youtube channel is meant to be focused on lost media, fan theories and stuff like that, but he keeps accidentally stumbling upon and then solving genuine crimes.
His brother Mycroft may or may not have chosen that name after he transitions specifically to annoy him.
He doesn't even live in London, but somehow the only flat they could afford was on a street named fucking Baker Street.
Sherlock Holmes and the Unescapable Power of the Narrative.
My hottest fanfiction take is I think people should stop posting multi-fandom oneshots as a single fic with like 50+ chapters and instead post them as individual fics
Trans Tim request!! Tim got de-ages now everyone (except the girls) think Bruce just found another random child, Timās deadname is Tabitha but no one that knows will refer to him as such
__
Bruce(carrying a 5 year old sleeping pre-transition Tim): Iām honestly impressed you managed to hide this from me for so long
Steph(was called 5 minutes after tim was de-aged, explained everything to Bruce): yeah, heās really good at hiding stuff, like freaky good
Bruce: hm, clearly
Steph: yup
Bruce: Iām a bit upset he didnāt feel safe telling me, but this is also the kid that made a fake uncle to avoid being adopted so I think itās just a him thing
Steph: yeah itās just a Tim thing

Jason: I donāt know, she says sheās been here like an hour
Baby Tim: hi
Dick: oh god it had black hair blue eyes
Jason(looking at baby Tim): youāre never gonna leave.
__
Duke: doesnāt Bruce normally tell you all when heās gets a new kid?
Dick: I didnāt find out for a month after he adopted Jason
Jason: thatās because you were drunk in Europe at the time
Dick: shush, I still havenāt told Bruce thatās where I was.
Duke: yeah ok, but he told you all when I got here?
Dick: you have living parents so he couldnāt immediately adopt you, so yeah, but in pretty much all other cases, nope
Duke: damn.
__
Cass(coming back to the library):
Cass(sees no Tim): oh dear.
__
Damian: she looks like drake
Jason: her last name IS drake

Jason: eh, depends, tammy how old are you?
Baby Tim(holding up fingers): Iām 5 years old!
Jason: nah, he wouldāve been too young at the time
Damian: hm.

Duke(used future vision on baby Tim, now knows itās Tim): uh guys-
Jason: one second- If Bruce doesnāt pick up his phone Iām gonna crash out
Dick: asshat, he wonāt call me either
Damian: I have his tracker saying heās in downtown Gotham
Duke: seriously-
Dick: this shit sucks man what the fuck Tim wonāt pick up either
Duke(sigh): this is why I donāt like you.
Duke(picking up baby Tim): cmon Timmy
Baby Tim: I like that name
Duke(leaving): yeah I know

Babs: good idea
__
Bruce(getting home):
Bruce(sees the boys panicking): ? What happened
Damain: what happened is you replaced me! Like you replaced Todd with drake
Bruce: what??
Damain: the little girl you brought back
Bruce: oh, Tim got de-aged
Jason: how is that relevant?
Bruce(thought they all knew since the girls did): the little girl is Tim?
Boys(did not know): what??
Duke: dumbasses.
__
Tim(now aged up 8 years): uh hello?
Duke: I told you not to take so long between each age up
Tim: what the fuck.
Jason: language! Your what⦠13?
Tim: yeah, arenāt you supposed to be dead?
Jason: yeah alright stalker central calm down
Tim(going very still): you know about that??
Jason: yes Tim I know about it
Tim(has not come out to anyone as Tim, very very confused): how do you know that???????
__
Bruce: ok I think heās back to normal
Tim(laying face down on the floor): talk about one way to come out Jesus.
Jason: yeah thatās normal
Duke: donāt worry man we donāt really care, your still you
ADHD affects how I experience time, not how I experience attachment. I love you. I miss you. I just don't realize how long itās been since I last said that, let alone messaged.
I understand that most normal functioning brains need regular engagement to maintain a bond. Absence doesnāt diminish my affection. My silence isnāt neglect or disinterest. Itās time blindness and object impermanence. The contact gap is purely neurological, not emotional. Thank you for being patient with my inconsistency and holding a seat in your heart for me.
Why does Spider-man get to go to the DC Universe all the time?? I think we should send DCU people to the Marvel Universe for kicks
SPECIFICALLY I'm thinking about Tim's Brucequest and instead of being sent back in time, Bruce got sent to an alt universe. He sets up base in New York (which gives him hives as a Jersey native) bc that's where the most Hero (and Alien) activity is. He can hack into Stark Industries and Iron Man's files to try and find information on how dimension travel works here. I'm sure Batman gets along with Spider-man alright and as long as he stays out of Hell's Kitchen Daredevil could care less.
The Avengers are going crazy looking for this bat guy who's set up shop and keeps hacking them and fighting villains. They can't trust him, no matter what Spider-man says.
I think it'd be most fun if the climax is where the Avengers have finally had a showdown with Batman and have successfully captured him (I'm sure he could get out eventually) and then some portal opens up mid-interrogation and a tired teen steps out and Red Robin is like "Hi, hello. I've come to take my dad home."
