//im rewatching the lp of ff7r that got me into the whole fandom and its german and the german version is so much closer to the jp than the shitty english translation is

FOR EXAMPLE when cloud is cornered on that bridge in midgar right before jumping onto the train one of the infantrymen says something along the lines of “Wait! I know that-” in english while in german its “Hold on, where’d you get that sw-”. its not a huge difference, i know, but the dialogue is inaccurate and so changed to something that should actually be entirely different

reno is a huge example. his swearing in english is iconic and all but so much of his dialogue was changed from the ground up to where some stuff is made up even (dialogue wise i mean, not lore or anything) while, again, the german is much closer to the japanese

i prefer the english voice acting and english as a whole bc god as a native german i think its not a pretty language at all (but i can intimidate people with ridiculously long words) but GOD dammit it was already a problem with cc and ac where things were translated so wrong that it came across so much differently from how it was intended (a prime example is genesis talking down on others when he actually more so talks himself up (”the world needs a new hero!” is actually “i want to be a hero too!”)) and iirc i once read sumn about square enix also being disappointed with the english translation of ff7r (dont quote me on this i could be remembering wrong but im p sure) so youd think they learn but nah

i will now go and keep watching and tell my friends on discord about the stuff the german version states and watch them go “that wasnt in the english version either gdi”
