I don’t “hate” X-Terminators… it was fun…

but I would also say that I don’t “LOVE” how Laura was written either.

It’s not quite as bad as Schultz or New Avengers, but not great either.

Her characterization wasn't the best, but still miles better than anything else that was happening with her during Krakoa. And Leah Williams did understand the assignment that Laura should be the straight man of any group.

And to be fair, the one truly egregious OOC moment ("Beer o'Clock") was also one in-universe, and Laura promptly called herself out on it.

The bigger problem was her showing Laura having her arm cut off despite now having a full adamantium skeleton (@#$%ing Duggan).

Read Generation X-23…

It’s fine. Better than I thought it would be!

I will say I actually like Houser’s voice better than Schultz! She captures a nice range of Laura… from Laura gently talking to the child mutant, to the verbal back and forth with Gabby!

It definitely is a vast improvement! The flashbacks are really fun… but I will say the nostalgia is kind of getting old with Laura. It basically feels more and more like a “Hey do you remember that storyline you liked even better?!”…

In some ways… I feel like it is quickly becoming a detriment. (I felt this way with LKW too!)

The biggest issue for me was… boredom. I found myself speed reading through and thinking “come on, come on” as Laura goes through the generic Facility break in.

The dialogue is fine but not Taylor levels with the jokes. Some land…some don’t…

Overall I would compare it to a “lesser version” of Gail Simone’s first issue of “Uncanny X-Men” (I immediately thought of the bald cancer patient when the Kiden chimera showed up and died!); a promising start but also… kind of safe? Kind of relying on nostalgia and not doing much new.

I definitely feel better about this book than I did with “Laura Kinney Wolverine”… but I am also not really “excited” about it either?

I would definitely say it’s a good “start”…but I would also say Marvel really needs to mix it up with Laura if they want to keep readers.

Laura is starting to feel a little “stale” and I don’t know if starting with another Facility plotline is necessarily the best choice?

Hopefully Houser’s solo will only go up… it is so far looking promising!

I kind of wonder what sort of niche you could create for Laura that would keep things fresh and interesting, but without becoming regressive (stripper assassin X-23 sounds like it'd be a blast...for an AU. She doesn't need to go back to either of those in 616).

The biggest problem with bringing the Facility back is that it leans back into Weapon X-style experiments, which is kind of Logan's wheelhouse. I do like the idea of more stories like Orphans of X where Laura is forced into conflicts she can't just stab and slash her way out of.

I would actually LOVE some sort of “Absolute/Ultimate X-23” and there’s TONS of different stories you could do!

But for the 616… the main thing is creating villains! She needs her own a “Sabertooth”, “Omega Red”, whatever.

I think a telepath would be interesting! Someone who’s fine misusing their powers if it means getting what they want. I think a sort of “Cersei Lannister” kind of villain would be interesting! Cold, selfish, manipulative… basically everything Laura isn’t. (And there’s been an evil telepath vacuum since Emma was reformed!)

“Evil X-23” clone is always an option (although Orphan Black already did it and did it really well lol!) 😝

I would be interested in seeing more assassins and secret societies (precog assassin would be cool!) ! A “Kraven” type of character could be interesting as well! ( someone fixated on “the hunt”.)

She could also always just hijack Mystique/Destiny or Empath, since neither are being used. Ditto with Laurie Collin’s therapist dad! Maybe Kingmaker too!

I don’t even think the Facility plotlines are BAD per-say… but I don’t know if I would have started with it right out of the gate… and I would have focused on her failed targets or other plot points than making more “weapons”…

Those are just ideas that I came up with on the top of my head. I don’t think it’s that hard… I just don’t think writers are trying!)

For "Evil X" there's Bellona. I'm honestly surprised she didn't turn up in LKW since Schultz had just written her in Elektra.

If Laura poaches another hero's rogue, IMO it should be Deathstrike. Though I am disappointed we didn't get a real Mystique vs. Laura showdown that Wolverines promised us.

Kingmaker would be a great one, because you can connect him to a lot of different plots.

Mystique would be fun… because Raven is a cold hearted bitch when she needs to be! Now that Destiny is back with her, she’s also way more dangerous! (And I am just a huge Mystique/Destiny fan! 🤣)

I am honestly surprised Schultz DIDN’T use Bellona or Empath honestly! Instead we got… Laura fighting vague human hate groups again and again? (Not ever Purifiers or something interesting!)

I’m surprised no one’s do the Purifirers again after KYOST either? Maybe revive the “Leper Queen”? She was kind of cool.

Selene? New Hellfire Club? Kingpin? Again- there’s way more options than just “The Facility” again and again.

There’s lots of ships that I personally hate… but I’m not going to rant at someone for posting fanart of Lorna/Alex…Mystique/Sabertooth…or X-23/Angel…

Like it’s hysterical to me they’re always ranting about people who like Hellion being “a crazy gatekeeping fandom”… when we’re never the ones threatening writers or screaming at at people posting Laura/Jubes, Laura/Kiden, ect fanart…

Like get a GRIP. 🙄🤣😭

All KYOST/Hellion fans have pretty much left them alone- until they started taking over the “Hellion” tag with rants about him being abusive or sending nasty anons.

Schultz was getting harassed on social media about the cover to LKW #7 after it was solicited, and before the issue dropped she made a (locked from comments) post:

The people who hated the cover were hardcore Liu fans, Kiden shippers raging about "queerbaiting," (even though the solicit dropped literally the week after NYX #8 — one of the shippiest Helix books in YEARS, and which itself was solicited before Kiden was even confirmed to be appearing at all — dropped) and those who just generally want Laura to be queer. Helix fans were freaking out, and there simply aren't enough fans of the Warren or Synch ships to make much of a ripple.

Pretty obvious which groups were the ones having a fit.

I’m gonna be real here, the Kiden ship is awful. I loved Kiden in both NYX comics, and other than that she’s only cameo’d. She has a very distinctive personality. When she showed up in the newest NYX she didn’t feel like the same character, at least not to me. She felt way more subdued - the Kiden I remember was more open and scrappy. Not to mention, the Laura when Kiden knew her well was a completely different person. She was traumatized and withdrawn, and eventually just took off on her own. Kiden was shown to feel protective of her and want the best for her, but never had a hint of any kind of romantic vibe towards her.. now years later suddenly she’s pining for her, even though she and Laura have barely had a conversation for years (cause we all know Laura is very bad about keeping in touch with her friends). It’s a bizarre retcon to say Kiden’s been crushing on her this entire time, reworks Kiden into essentially an OC, and frankly it doesn’t work. I maintain that the only people who like it are the people who desperately want Laura to be queer so they’ll snap up any scraps Marvel throws at them. Which, fair I suppose, I can understand the desire for representation. However if Laura is to be revealed as bisexual, I would prefer either a new character brought in, or perhaps create a story with an existing character that actually builds something and doesn’t try to rush and force something with no resolution (which is another reason that the sudden Kiden revelation sucks. We never even really see Laura’s reaction, it’s all implied).

But even with all of that said and laid out there, I would never harass someone who enjoys the idea of that ship, much less start emailing the writers vitriol. And don’t even get me started on the people who treat the Liu book as gospel, clearly never read KYOST, and love to hate on Hellion. They’re ridiculous.

Honestly I fully agree! I liked Quesada's version of Kiden better and I would agree that I was pretty “meh” on the ship… but it also doesn’t really upset me either.

Like it definitely COULD have been better written and if given the choice… I just find Hellion/Laura more interesting than Kiden/Laura and felt like it made zero sense with the prior NYX canon…but I was objectively happier it was that ship than reopening the Synch drama from Krakoa!

Honestly I would argue it’s the writing that ruins most Laura “ships”- part of the reason people LIKE Julian was it was well written! All of Laura’s current ships- Warren, Kiden, Everett, Zane… are just so lazily written that no one cares. 😕

I actually feel like there was more canonically there with Jeanne, Mercury, or even Jubes than Kiden (I’m not a big Jubes fan but it’s fine!)

( I would also argue Kiden had more chemistry with the friend she defended from the gang member or Tatiana… but again, whatevs. It’s not a ship that really bothers me and I do objectively love Quesada’s version of the character -\_😕_/- )

I truthfully could have 100% gotten behind it if Lanzing had more buildup for the relationship and wrote Kiden as snappier… but it just felt like it came out of nowhere and his version of Kiden is kind of boring 😔

“Laura is asexual” myth

Laura is a little freak.

She literally breaks into Julian’s room to watch him sleep multiple times, when he’s shirtless and gets mad when he dreams about Sofia.

She is constantly possessive of Hellion and more or less treats him as her “property”…gutting Deathstrike for f***ing with him.

She spies on people having sex in “Target X”.

She spies on the whole Emma/Scott/Wolverine/Jean love triangle drama in “Target X”.

She teases Josh that they’re going to kill him and cuts off Vanishers ear in “X-Force”.

I get that fans like to attribute her as asexual and not having a sense of humor because of the original NYX and even Liu…but KYOST’s Laura is a weird little freak, and that’s why Hellion loves her. -\_😕_/-

Every time people talk about Laura… I think about this commentary on “Jane Eyre”…. (Someday I will finish my writeup on “Why Laura is more like Jane Eyre than Pinnochio lol!!)

I feel obligated to clarify (as an asexual person in a relationship with another asexual person) that while some asexual people have no interest in romance, it is not universally true that all asexual people have no interest in love or relationships. I don’t see any of the things listed in the first post as being mutually exclusive with being asexual. Asexual people simply don’t experience sexual attraction to any gender. That doesn’t mean that asexual people never get curious about sex, relationship drama, experience crushes on other people, appreciate someone’s beauty, etc etc. Some asexual people are repulsed by sex, but many are not.

However, Laura’s relationship with Angel showed beyond any doubt that she is not asexual (and tbh, I never thought she was and don’t know where anyone got that from). She was pretty eager to bang him, and not gonna lie most of their relationship was probably based on sex because it didn’t have a whole lot of redeeming characteristics.

I think Laura as asexual is some sort of weird fan projection that victims of sexual assault (and make no mistake Laura absolutely was. By pretty much any definition you could use she was raped) can't themselves be sexual because trauma or whatever bullshit.

It’s very problematic, because it creates a blanket assumption that asexual people are only asexual because of trauma and that we are “broken”. Which also creates an assumption that we can be “fixed”. People need to stop ✋ 🛑

Granted people are likely to react to trauma in different ways, but there is a difference between losing interest in sex because of trauma and never experiencing sexual attraction in the first place.
