2 years in Malaysia: RUNNING
I remember my post on May 2015 when I announce I registered for a half marathon and I will run it on September. That didnât happen - although I was training for it hardly and I even joined my first race of 5km in London. When I break my record of 10km in my fun runs, something happened to my ankle and I was out of running for a month and I skipped further long runs just to avoid any injuries.
But I was keeping the dream in my mind to run a half marathon one day. I am happy to say it finally happened in Malaysia and not just that.Â
In my first running shoes I bought in London when I start with running, I could estimate that I run around 500km based on my tracking app - then I throw the shoes.
If you are in foreign countries without much connection, you just run whenever you can to stay healthy, productive and had a great mind.
These are run events I joined here including my first half marathon and my first and still the only one full-marathon:
In 2017:
23rd July: PJ Half Marathon - 21km ~ time 2:41
13th Aug: Kuching Marathon - 21km ~ time 2:21
19th Nov: KUL Marathon - 25km
In 2018:
11th Feb: KL World Urban Run - 15km
8th Apr: Standard Chartered Marathon - 21km
6th May: Borneo Marathon - 42km ~ time 5:29
3rd Jun: Bali Kilo Run - 10km, eat & run, gained +2kg during the run đŻ
15th Jul: PJ Half Marathon - 30km
29th Jul: Spartan Super - 15km and around 20 obstacles ~
29th Sep: Protector Run - 21km
6th Oct: Sebauh Fun Run - 9km
13rd Oct: HSN Run - 21km
27th Oct: Putrajaya Night Marathon - 21km
+ gym, physiotherapist, swimming and bootcamps in work ~ depending on what time period it was. My 2019 first race is still pending ~ should happen on April but my dream is accomplished - I run more than I could ever imagine and it becomes a stable part of my life!
2 years in Malaysia: TRAVEL
If you love traveling, itâs a great to get a job in aviation or travel industry. Working in AirAsia provides me generous benefits to discover the World or at least the part of Asia continent which I am grateful for.
Looking at the list of places Iâve visited during the past two years looks pretty incredible.
In 2017:
10th - 13th March: Thailand Phi Phi/Phuket - visiting friends from the Czech
8th - 9th Apr: Melaka, Malaysia - with a friend
13th - 15th May: Bali, Indonesia - for a team building
24th -26th Jun: Langkawi - with a friend from Spain
15th - 16th Jul: Camping in Malaysia - ended with 69 bites on my whole body!
12th - 13th Aug: Kuching, other side of Malaysia - for a run sponsored by AirAsia, my second half-marathon
26th - 27th Aug: Singapore - a weekend trip
21st - 24th Sep: South Korea - to meet my London ex-colleagues from cinema
29th -1st Oct: Lombok, Indonesia - with colleagues
6th - 9th Oct: Phuket, Thailand - for wedding
14th - 15th Oct: Marina Island, Malaysia - for a girlfriendâs family trip
1st - 4th Dec: Sihanoukville, Cambodia - travel around
23rd - 26th Dec: Bali, Indonesia - Christmas celebration
This results in 19 flights in 10 months and a trip per month in average ~
In 2018:
19th-23rd Jan: Koh Kood, Thailand - visiting father after 1 year~
23rd - 25th Feb: Langkawi, Malaysia - work trip
5th - 18th Apr: Krabi, Thailand & Cameron Highlands in Malaysia -with my mum for her 50th birthday
5th - 6th May: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia - Borneo Run sponsored by AirAsia, my first full-marathon
10th - 12th May: Padang, Indonesia - weekend trip to escape from election fear
1st - 3rd Jun:Â Bali, Indonesia - Kilo Run ~ eat and run, 10km
13th - 18th Jun: Sapa, Vietnam - travel ~
24th - 26th Aug: Hat Yai, Thailand - trip with colleagues
9th - 14th Sep: Maldives - holiday
5th - 6th Oct: Bintulu, other side of Malaysia - for a fun run ~ Sebauh Run sponsored by AirAsia, 9km
20th - 6th Jan: Czech Republic, sweet home after almost two years!
This results in 22 flights in one year. This year 2019 I need to make some progress but most likely I will travel less but will pick up some richer, more expensive and advanced destinations such as Japan, Shanghai or Australia.Â
I also run out of passport pages. The passport was issued in February 2015, London, and by the end of 2018 I had like one-two pages left - not enough to extend a visa! Hence I needed to go to the czech embassy and request for new one. PS: People in Malaysia has passport with more than 10 extra pages! Our passport is really short!
2 years in Malaysia - how does it happen?
Itâs two years since I moved to Malaysia! The time flies so fast. Before I moved to Malaysia, I said I will stay here in Asia around 1.5 years but you know how these things work. You shouldnât promise/say anything or trying to estimate time because itâs hard to keep it right if you donât have such experiences. The same applied for my 4 years trip to London in 2012 which supposed to be max 2 years.Â
Before I moved to Asia, my life was more like a roller coaster tycoon, trying things, figuring things out, straggling with a proper job and so forth.Â
The position in AirAsia is the kind of job I was dreaming of when I was twenty. Digital marketing + software developer, the dream came true but it wasnât an easy journey. It took me a couple of years to figure everything out. The bonus is the most excited industry - travel/aviation (except the politician/lobbying thing but itâs not related to me).
Since I didnât update much of what Iâve done the last two years, I think itâs time to fix it and add up some photos. When I look back, the story of my life is pretty great if we take in consideration that I couldnât speak English at all and didnât have any education background that would credit me in foreign countries.
---
So just a quick recap:Â Before I moved to Malaysia for work, I was studying here NEXT Academy from November 2015 to January 2016 and I wrote the whole blog about the experience in NEXT Academy.
Then I was struggling to get a job in London as a junior website developer and it took one year of learning and building own web applications (no404.herokuapp.com, cvcka.cz ~ now resumetion.com. During that time I visited also Barcelona for my first time for a short holiday and I felt in love with the vibe city:
November 2015 - January 2016: NEXT Academy
12th - 18th July 2016: Barcelona Holiday
27th October 2016: Finish driving for Uber in London
29th October 2016: Moving to Barcelona to find a job and study
31st October 2016: Starting learning spanish in school
8th November 2016: Offer from AirAsia in Malaysia, another offer from Barcelona, I chose the first one
18th December 2016: Leaving Barcelona and moving to back to Czech
19th December 2016: Starting temporary job in Applifting as Ruby on Rails Developer in Prague
27th January 2017: Leaving Applifting where I supposed to stay 6 months due to an expected long process of visa application for AirAsia. It was way shorter
So letâs move topic on what happened when I moved to Malaysia.
Where to live & work?
Itâs been almost 2 years since I moved to Malaysia. I wasnât back in the hometown till this Christmas season. The life was passing by and I was busy working. It was great to see all everyone - friends and family after so long. Thousands of thoughts of what happened over the two years and what changes back there and here. How I changed and developed.Â
There is no single answer and I could write and write about it but now I am having a jet lag, thinking of my community of friends and family I left again after squeezing maximum to see them during my 16 days of holiday.
What will happen next?
My contract will expire soon and new negotiation will start in the next couple of days. AirAsia is definitely one of the best companies to work for not just here in Malaysia but Worldwide - a travel industry, really great employee support and benefits, office facilities (sauna, gym, physiotherapists, food and I could go on and on...). But the rule is clear and says that the best average time for employee to stay in one company is 2 years (most people leaving during first 1.8 months if not mistaken).
Even if the company is the best, there are also different factors like:Â
Country
Work
Quality of life
People
So where to live and what to do?Â
I am still young but the age is adding up pretty quickly. Just some examples that will help with a decision:
Malaysia
+ The tax are pretty low + The development and quality life is great if your salary is okay - especially living condition. Still building new condos/houses around with great facilities like swimming pool, gym, court/playground - this is kind of standard + Opportunities in Asia
- The prime minister has too much power - last prime minister was a dictator, abusing the power, laundering money in worldwide well-known 1mdb scandal, the rules are not very friendly - As a citizen from the Czech Republic, itâs almost impossible to get a malaysian passport or to buy a property here. Canât vote and have dependency on working visa (if my information is correct) - Education is bad and expensive, not many smart people around - Community development: Bad habits and etiquette is a disaster - no government enforcement to learn good habits. People canât say âHiâ when you go shop and âByeâ when you leaving. This is a huge no for me - Bad and expensive medical/health care
Letâs compare with the Czech Republic
Czech Republic
+ Have passport, can buy home, can vote + Good opportunities in Prague + Free education (some of them still in communist style) + Free health/medical care
- The time is strange and a big oligarcha is in the power (something similar to Malaysia) - Quality of life is not good - the houses in Prague are in all time high because of tourists, airbnb and no development -they donât build new properties or in very small pace so the cost will be huge - Big tax, over 50% from your salary is going to government - No innovation/development - trains, buses, building...
So what to do?
I wanted to try to live in Barcelona but itâs clear the destiny will be similar to the Prague because of the byrocraties and to protect the history and city view - no building. New generation of millenials and Z are more likely to travel more frequently than ever before which will just deeper the issues with house pricing and development and there is currently not a clear solution on the way.
In small cities and villages (like my hometown Frydek-Mistek) there are not enough opportunities, the need for development and mainly most smart and educated people will run out from there in exchange for more opportunities and better life to big cities and capitals.
I used to live in London and the development wasnât so bad but way behind Asia and after Brexit the country is just living messy time. I could think of Singapore as a solution even though the life can get a bit busy but at least you could effort a high and comfortable life when traveling around the world due to the currency power. Itâs also one of the most innovative cities in the World. I would wonder how USA would compete with the quality of life there but itâs clear visa could be an issue. Maybe time to visit it there.
So what do you think? What is the best place to live?
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2019!
Solved a problem, got $2600 & have same problem again
Ages ago (~2010), I bought my first domain with the idea to build my personal website/portfolio - petrduda.cz. The domain expired but the idea to build a portfolio didnât disappear.
So much changed from the event - I learnt English and became a global citizen living in four countries. Last year I bought a domain again, in this time petrduda.com - but there is a problem with this domain name... Name âPetrâ is not very popular globally and people keep misspelling it to âPeterâ (so please, if youâll ever have kids in this global world, think about your kidsâ names deeper).Â
So I was thinking how to solve it and what is the best domain name to build my portfolio - allowing me also to keep two email addresses just in case - like [email protected] and [email protected] - the domain duda.com is obviously not available.
But I found that duda.co was available so I bought it - the .co domain is getting more popular and itâs actually shorter than .com so why not. I bought the domain about 6 months ago for $10 and since that, I didnât finish the website yet, but I made some cool business cards for myself.
The last week, two days before my birthday, someone, however, sent me an offer to buy this domain from me for $2000 (through GoDaddy). I was a pretty surprise and eventually decided to make a counter offer for $2600 - the buyer accepted it.Â
So now I have an extra $2600 for .co domain but I created the same problem again with the domain name + one extra problem - what to do with the $2600?
You see, life is not easy and this is not a joke. Maybe I can buy some cryptocurrencies (I sold some bitcoins 3 months ago and the price doubled again) or invest it into p2p lending portals (getting bored of it already though) - or try something new... Anyway, this is a quite pleasant problem to solve.Â
Btw did you read Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions? There is an interesting chapter how we follow suggested prices. When I was decided about the counter offer, it hit me and made me think: What is the adequate price? Why does the buyer offer so much for .co unused domain? How much is he willing to spend for this domain? Should I try counter offer $4.000? $3000? Is it worth to risk it? Why if he wonât accept it - will I lose the opportunity to sell it for such high amount?
You know, if they would offer me $500, I would be pretty happy as well as I spent just $10 to buy the domain - maybe the counter offer would be a bit higher but still. But what if I could decide for how much to sell the domain without any offer? Honestly, I would have no idea - there is the fear of decline and the excitement of opportunity to raise but I wouldnât imagine to give it a price tag $2.000. But because someone offered it and I could see it has a value for someone else, why not to use the opportunity to raise even more and go behind my imagination (if there wouldn't be the price tag).
Thatâs it.
Turning life upside down
Itâs pretty interesting how quickly one life can be changed. Christmas time, moving from Barcelona to Prague, surprising my family on 24th Dec, freezing, minus 5 degrees celsius and my new Santaâs hat that keeps my ears warm. Temporary job for ~ 6 months before solving my working permit to Malaysia.
Bzzzzzzzz... email notification saying: âyour visa is approved and you can relocateâ just before the New Year and after a couple of days in my new job where I supposed to be a half year. What I should say to my new colleagues? I just met them! I feel so bad...
One month after, 1st February, I am going to the airport to fly to Malaysia with Emirates. Surprise! âYouâve been upgraded to a business class.â said one of the Emirates staff that was checking my ticket... just like that.
It was a long journey: 5 hours from my city to Prague, picking my luggage from my already ex-new-job and going to an airport: 6 hours to fly to Dubai, 4 hours waiting for a connection and 6 hours and 30 mins to Kuala Lumpur.
Overall 20 hours journey. Landed around 3:30 pm, waited for my luggage, bought a new sim card and quickly went to my Airbnb place I booked in HYVE, Cyberjaya, for a one-night stay.Â
Before that, I arranged about 5 different agents & owners for renting a studio in the same location each in 30 mins blocks. Arriving in my apartment, taking a shower and already running to meet the first agent. 5 such meetings, visited about 7 different studios in HYVE for better negotiation and that same night after such a journey I already confirmed an agent my interest for a studio for the following day.
New home
The next day I woke up at 8 am (MY +8 UTC in compare with Prague ~ 7 hours ahead), took UBER to my new job and met my colleagues after 2,5 months of communication through Skype. After an introduction to my new workplace & co-workers, we went for a lunch and then I went back home to sign a one-year contract for my new apartment.
Everything was so smooth that I couldnât believe it. After 5 years of living in tiny rooms in shared houses, I got a place I could dream off. Gym, 50m swimming pool, amazing view... + fantastic job (this will be a different story).
Room view & swimming pool
But you know what happened? BOOOM! That night after moving to a new place, I started to feel in depressed with no reason - everything was so good and I just moved here so why? I thought I would have that feeling under control after living in 4 different countries in unstable places so I started to google it: âDepression/loneliness when moving abroadâ.
In 24 hours: New job, new house, 30 degrees celsius extra, 7 hours time ahead, new country, new people, new challenges... thatâs a huge change in such a short period of time but anyway, here is a checklist from my research to better understand it.
CHECKLIST
âA man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find itâ - George Moore February [guess true but itâs not so excited]
âSuccessful âchange navigatorsâ report that the more change they experience, the greater, not less, their fight and flight response gets. So that feeling that might be fear and might just be stretching your comfort zone doesnât get easier, it gets bigger. What does change is your capacity to see it through.â [true]
âIf you are in a state of culture shock or overwhelm it can be easy to stop trying. Of course pushing yourself is not the solution. Treat yourself gently. Try for a diet of one small new thing a day; a new food, a new walk, talking to a new person. It can also help to create a structure or schedule so you canât just space out but do keep active.â [true]
âThe greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitudeâ -Â Oprah Winfrey [true]
âWith great sacrifice comes great rewardâ [true]
Condo, gym & its view
So thatâs another new chapter of my life at least for the following year. That bad feeling took just a couple of hours before creating my daily routine plan & finding that I am not alone in experiencing it.
THREE FUNNY FACTS
1. When we thought about moving abroad for the first time with my friend, I suggested Kuala Lumpur. It was quite unrealistic without English and going so far so we just took the easy way and moved to London to learn English & find a job there. Now I am living in Kuala Lumpur after 5 years since the idea (âthe overnight successâ or âplant seeds in brainâ).
2. Moving abroad is a pretty uncomfortable thing: Starting again in an environment you donât know, new laws, finding a job, get new friends, new culture & habits etc. But when I moved to London for the first time, I thought it would be a silly to just stay there and not to try to replicate it again for a different country. But finding the courage for such a decision is not easy and can be challenging to overcome the comfort zone.
3. One year ago I graduated in NEXT Academy, Cyberjaya and I moved back to Czech. When I arrived, I felt a bit lost and I was moving several times within my city Frydek-Mistek, Prague, London and Barcelona -> to end up again in Kuala Lumpur exactly one year after.Â
PS: Anyone is welcome to visit and experience Malaysia .) PS1: Thank you NEXT Academy PS2: Thank you Applifting
Emirates Business class
I just moved to Malaysia for work and for my surprise my Emirates ticket from Prague to Dubai was upgraded for free to the business class - just like that, thank you. Itâs totally different experience and it was so strange to fly from Dubai to KL back in Economy, pffuuuj.
Watching a movie Nerve.
Getting drunk for free
Being global is not easy. I donât have any collection, itâs just a cash I didnât have a chance to spend & some sim cards.
Youtuber, Black Mirror and Nerve
It is nice to explore new things. I really like the way Youtube is changing the game and how it could allow people to express themselves, record fantastic videos and even earn some dollars. I just started to follow videos from a Youtube star Casey Neistat and it is impressive.
I recommend you to check some of his videos. The concept is simple yet so powerful - this is his most-viewed video with more than 18m views that made the biggest impact on how famous he is now (itâs a bit different than the others, so definitely check more).
Have you seen a serial Black Mirror produced by HBO by the way? I loved it! (Not just) the future of technology and how it could negatively change our lives. For example, can you imagine Uber rating idea to be scale globally for everyone in normal life? You see a person and you could see his rating as well. People deal with you based on how many stars you have. Every episode from Black Mirror is totally different with new ideas and actors.Â
Thanks to Casey and his prank on a press, I found a great science-fiction film with a similar idea as Black Mirror but more relevant to Youtuber scene. Watch now the prank:
I didnât watch the whole Nerve movie but just some parts on Youtube. The idea is fantastic although the reviews not much. To not waste your time, just watch this part & Black Mirror.
Could some startup ever launch a similar live-video-game app in the future?
P2P Lending: Be a Mini-Investor and Get ~ 10% Interest a Year
The Story of Traditional banks, Czech Republic
5 years ago a new bank established in the Czech Republic called ZUNO. In that time they offered a revolutionary saving account with 2.5% interest a year. You could move money as you go and you could get a tiny interest paid every month. Despite I was a poor student that time, I was so excited to have the account and be able to move money between normal and saving accounts all the time and get as little as 5 CZK interest every month with the hope that one day I will become rich.
As the time flies, the bank changed. Many new banks appeared on the market with similar interest just to attract new clients and once they reach a good amount of customers, the interest went down. Today ZUNO offers his historically lowest interest 0.05% a year. Sick, right? Just 5 years. Another modern bank Airbank that started a couple of months after ZUNO started with similar interest. They had an ad that they are not like normal banks and that they will KEEP ALWAYS TOP3Â guarantee interest in the Czech. They just stopped the guarantee and today they offer interest just 1% with a condition to pay actively with their card.
So this is the story about banks and how crappy is the interest they offer.
Peer 2 Peer Lending model story - be a bank yourself and lend your money
A couple of years back in the United States, a new business model appeared on the market that let normal people like you or me invest a small amount of cash into loans and get back an interest from it - just like banks do it. Itâs usually a platform, where borrowers (people that need money) meet investors (people that have money) with some kind of risk management.
In other words: This is John ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ. John needs 2000 USD for a new kitchen. John will ask a p2p lending platform if they could arrange a loan to fund his new kitchen. The platform decided John is a suitable borrower with a good credit history and the risk that John wonât pay it back to investors is very low and decide to give 10% RSPN to John. John is happy and accepted it. The platform put an offer for Johnâs loan online. The platform has many people (~ investors) who could borrow John money. I am ( ͥ° ÍÊ ÍĄÂ°) actually one of these people and you can be as well. I decided that the risk is okay and I will borrow John 5 USD. Other people (investors)  will join me and will invest around 5 - 10 USD as well. We are now 300 investors and we collected together 2000 USD for John. John is repaying the loan successfully every month and each investor will get 10% interest from the amount they invested. I wonât get much money on top what I invested for this particular loan but if I will invest 5 USD in like 200 such loans (1000 USD in total, the idea is to diverse the portfolio against risk), then it gets as high as 100 USD every year.Â
The p2p lending is getting more popular in Europe and I am personally using 5 platforms to invest money - and thatâs the story about them. The risk is that some borrowers might not pay their loans but this is the magic of diversification: Investors including me usually invest the minimum amount (as low as 200 CZK or 5 - 10 EUR/GBP) to each loan so there is no drama if someone wonât pay as they should.

Mintos is a great place to invest in Europe. It is a new platform founded in 2015 with fantastic reviews. It has a great support for investors and they just launched a support for investment in multiple currencies like Czech Koruna or Poland Zloty. You can set up auto-investment to automatically invest & reinvest available money from your account to other loans - in other words, you donât need to invest much time into it except to set up some filter what return & risk you want to accept. They also offer a secondary market where you can sell your loans if youâre not happy with them or need some cash immediately.
My investment
I added there a fund 2.5 months ago and since that I invested in 121 loans. My return is lower than expected on 8.45% but zero bad debts and some coming with delays. I hope it will grow higher.

This is one of the most popular p2p platform in the Czech Republic started in 2015. They are back up from PPF and you could already see them in local TV ads. The language is only in Czech as well as the currency is in the Czech Koruna so it is pretty impossible to invest for foreigners. You can choose loans & rates where you want to invest as they donât have any auto invest software. You have also the opportunity to read borrowersâ stories.
My investment:
I invested in 130 loans in total with annual interest rate of 8.59%. Just two of my loans are delayed and wonât probably get repaid. They donât have any features like auto-invest or a secondary market to sell current loans yet so you have to regularly check it and invest lots of time to keep reinvesting. But they do a really good job with risk-management and the quality of loans. It might be difficult to get there as an investor now as they have queue system (I have some links to get in front of the queue if you want).

Bondora is p2p lending platform currently available in many countries across Europe. They started in 2008 and offer loans in EUR currency. For an investment, they use a primary the auto-invest software and you can choose the risk rate that you are willing to take. Currently, they offer risk strategy Conservative with 11.92%, Balanced with 14.38% and Progressive with 15.53% expected return. They offer also a secondary market where you could sell your loans.
My investment:
They have quite bad reviews but so far my interest is far above expectation with their risk strategy Balanced - above 18% and I invested in 472 loans in total. I have many delayed loans but it shouldnât have a big impact unless it gets worse. Before investing I recommend to go through the reviews so you can decide yourself.

SavingStream offers loans for UK properties instead of people and they keep the annual interest around 10 - 12% stable. It becomes pretty popular but because of many investors joined the platform recently, it is more likely that they will move the interest a bit down to match the average UK market (5-7%) but this is just my hypothesis.
My investment:
I started with it just 2.5 months ago and since that I invested into 72 loans. My interest is on 10.68% with zero bad loans. Despite itâs a pretty early for these data to be valid, there is one interesting fact: since their existence, they had just one bad loan which is an exceptional result. They donât offer any auto-invest strategy so you have to also spend a lot of time looking for the marketplace if there are loans available.

Funding Circle is a p2p platform founded in 2010 and focusing on the UK market. The different is that you donât lend money to people but rather to small and medium UK businesses. They are well evaluated with their risk-management and the interest rate should be around 7% a year. The highest benefit is that the review is excellent but you wonât be able to join the platform if you donât have a UK address.
My investment:
I added a fund two and a half months ago and currently I have 63 active loans in businesses. The return is not any high but I found two benefits: I started to invest when the GBP currency was on the highest down so I hope it will growth together with the fund and the second thing is that they have auto-invest - I donât need to spend any time on it.

Summary of 2016: The Shiny Moments and the Failures behind
I was thinking if I should write some summary of 2016 - itâs always great to go through what just happened and get clear to what we want to accomplish the following year.
Honestly, 2016 was a suck year. One of the worst ones, but we donât talk about such things on social media. We share just the beautiful moments and shiny things: happiness, friendship, love, holiday, travel, success, workout, fun.
Complaints and negativity are not acceptable.
But behind every success or a shiny photo, there are always the untold stories behind the scenes:Â
Behind the scene of getting a degree: the stressful years to get to that point. The loss of freedom and moving between rules & limits.
Behind the photo of a muscular/fit person: The hours of hard work in a gym. Sweating a lot and motivate yourself. The discipline and diets.
Behind the holidays: The hard work to save the money for it. The plans & willingness to go.Â
Behind the happy relationship: The broken hearts, the argues and lessons from the previous relationships.
and so on.
The start of 2016 was fantastic. On the beginning, I graduated with an excellence from a coding bootcamp. With the gained skills & knowledge, I set huge goals and had big expectations (with a single priority: get a good job). I moved back to Czech, had a few interviews and get a high paid job in a new industry. Everything could be great from here but there was one problem: I didnât like the job. Two weeks later I left and I moved to London.
Result?
Several months looking for a job. More than 300 job applications, around 40 phone interviews and more than 15 test challenges. 13 office interviews.
I was hearing âNoâ from HR & companies more than it would be healthy and I was constantly ignored. I had big plans and I shared it with my friends/family just to be open what is going on, but all my plans collapsed and when I came up with new plans/job opportunities, they collapsed as well the following week. This year, whatever I tried to predict & share, it didnât work out.Â
My confidence went down to zero. My motivation was falling to the bottom too. I developed many bad habits, it hurts my wallet etc. On October I started to think what is wrong and how I could get out of it. To rescue myself, I realised that London was a bad choice and with a new hope I moved to Barcelona. I started to learn Spanish to push my motivation from the bottom and I started to search for a new job again.
Now, letâs post some shiny things from the 2016 - the few beautiful moments that are behind the overall not very good year of 2016.
So what I wanted to say is that behind every new job*, there is the courage, the risk, the willingness to go to the unknown, the loss of stability & time. The stress, the depression, the applications, the ignorance & the ânoâ from employers etc.
*exceptions appliedÂ
I am grateful for all of the lessons from 2016 & the fantastic people I met! 2017 youâre more than welcome here!

No longer gifts on Christmas please
I celebrated my last 4 Christmas abroad far away from my family and long-time friends. This Christmas, I told my family that I wonât come either and that I will stay in Barcelona. It was a lie. On the 24th I surprise my father, grandmother and mother. You should see their faces - they didnât recognise me at first thinking what the fu*k I am. I really enjoyed it and the biggest benefit of such a surprise is - no gifts for me.
We live in such a prosperity that I felt that opening gifts is not enjoyable anymore. Everyone owns almost everything from the small things or can easily afford them. There is also the minimalistic way of thinking - so much waste of money and things we wonât ever use.
I didnât get any gifts and I am happy about it. Oh wait, actually I got three pretty nice shirts but there is one âbutâ: the size of all of them are too large for me. Aww...
Wouldnât it be easier for everyone to just have a nice family dinner without the hassle of giving gifts? What do you think?
