Amaze Amaze Amaze (Life on Erid)
The emperor Vitellius dragged through the streets of Rome by the people (1882) by Georges Rochegrosse. Musées de Sens.
If you think about it Poppaea Sabina too is an honorary southern italian
when i first adopted my roman senator from the shelter he was so traumatized from being attacked by an angry mob in the forum that he would just curl up in a ball with his toga and whimper all day. but with careful support now he will eat olives from my hand without growling or biting or filibustering. it's amazing to see what love can do for senators<3
yes grace is named after the first line in the hail mary prayer (hail mary, full of grace) but stratt is also named after the first word in the original latin prayer!
ave maria, gratia plena -> ave -> eva
my close personal friend sporus
oh hello little sporus! and why are you an angel, even?
Something silly for my birthday
That Nero guy (not talking about any blorbo I mean the historical figure) was on some wack shit. Too bad he died I wish I could kill him myself.
things that always get me about project hail mary (book and movie details that leave me in tears)
grace burning up one of his arms putting rocky back in his atmosphere to save his life (book) and rocky burning himself to save grace's life (both)
the plaques on both their ships that show their people looking to the hail mary and the blip-a and hoping, and waiting (movie)
ryland erasing the 'who am i' board to make the calculations to find rocky, because he knows who he is now (movie)
grace being the first thing to give rocky hope in 46 years (book)
the way grace and rocky find a middle ground between their languages and slowly adopt eachothers grammar and ways of talking (book)
the track where grace goes to save rocky being called 'believe in the hail mary' + the track where grace finds the plaques being called 'humanity' - because its such an inherently human thing. (movie)
grace finding his way home, back to where he always wanted to be, even if he is changed and he is brave, still always remaining a teacher. succeeding because he is a teacher. never really losing who he is, not in the slightest (both)
grace never even for a second considering leaving or even celebrating when he had taumobea that could survive venus, because threeworld still needed taumobea too, no matter how anxious grace always was to work so fast (book)
grace knowing that he would die when he turned around to save rocky and still doing it anyway because he wasn't afraid of dying anymore (book)
"you just need to find someone to be brave for" (movie)
every single parallel or shot that shows how far grace has come (movie)
eva really was the only one to truly believe in grace as a person. she trusted him to find out what was going on with astrophage, she trusted him on the taskforce to talk to the astronauts, and she trusted him to save everyone. (book)
the hail mary serving almost as a time capsule, for if the mission didn't work. something to say "we were here, despite it all, and we tried." (both, but especially the movie) - rylands quilt being made up of different patches presumably made by so many different people, a reminder of earth he still carries with him, and the drawings done by kids of the world and its people. the reminders of earth aboard the hail mary
theres more but im crying too hard to continue this list rn
not enough appreciation for stratt and grace’s age gap. i am terrible at math and my memory is shit so correct me if im wrong but stratt is described as being in her early forties when we first meet her and grace is 32 during the space scenes and around 28!! during launch. meaning he probably met stratt when he was in his mid to late twenties.
nobody talks about it and yeah it’s not relevant to the book at all (since grace never brings it up) but it’s so interesting and special to me…
For everyone who ‘used to love reading’ but now hasn’t finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You don’t have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments). Source: I read 0 books in 2023 and I’ve read 12 in the first 4 months of 2026
eva stratt makes me so fucking unwell because. imagine months of making hard call after hard call because you gotta, because someone's gotta, and this time it has to be you. and she keeps strong despite it, she keeps going. then the fucking pit in her stomach she must have felt, when she realized that Grace was her only option left. the horror of that realization. having to steel herself for the task. only to have him beg and plead and cry. her friend. how did she not throw up. how did she manage it. eva stratt the woman ever, how many people out there would have the sheer force of will, to be able to pull the trigger on their friend to save all humanity. and she didn't even know if it would work. she didn't know. for years. she didn't know if murdering her friend was worth the gamble. she just had to believe in him. fucking hell.
Apparently Eva Stratt at the end of the movie on the ship had a prison tattoo on her neck that meant something along the lines of "life without parole." So, parallel to Grace and Rocky's adventure, there was a whole subplot where Eva Stratt
- Was eventually trialed by governments of the world as a scapegoat and sent to prison
- She somehow BROKE out of said prison and currently commandeers a rogue paramilitary faction of Project Hail Mary loyalists who believe in her over world governments, who presumably are still hunting her down
- She currently is on the run and staying mobile on an ice breaker ship like some kind of james bond villain base (but you know, good) while STILL working on project hail mary the whole time
- Her rogue loyalist faction controlled enough resources they could go to space and collect the beetles Grace had sent. Alternatively, it was the world government that collected the beetles, and Stratt had a whole ass heist movie to steal them, which is why she had the little xenonite figure at the end of the movie. Either ways she was running circles around them.
Absolutely insane. Never piss off a history major
seeing bloodymary: okay simon and grace… cute ship i guess. but why do those names sound familiar…
two weeks later: OH MY GOD LIKE FROM INFINITY TRAIN
If you see me going absolutely feral over Stratt and Grace’s relationship on this platform, please know that every single thing that I post is neither romantic nor sexual to me. “But the language and themes are so intense.” Well you see they’re character foils who knew each other better than anyone, and whose relationship was destroyed by a one-sided double sacrifice and mutual betrayal. That’s what makes it intense, not a precise classification of their bond.
