I'll be on later. Going off to sleep now.
"Well excuse me for being a scholar and not some merchant, besides…” He looked away, something akin to sadness glistening in his golden eyes as memories of his late mother flickered through his mind. “… Women can have their own standing once they get the chance, I grant you this chance now… Do not disappoint me, my Lady”
That question earned a frown. “My Lord Father wished for me to get married, I just happened to hear of a delicate, intellectual female whom my brother was going to court, I merely took the chance to court you instead simply because I thought… If I had to suffer marrying some irritating wench with no purpose, at least I’ll marry one with a brain… Guess only 50% of that statement was true” He told her. “But you are right, I doubt you want this any more than I do, so if we’re going to live together for the remainder of my life… I think we should come to an understanding”
Delicate? While Chunhua was far from delicate, his words stung. She had to wonder what her life would have been like if his brother had indeed been her husband. Being married off at such a young age was hard enough as it was; she didn't have any real friends her age, here. Now she was surrounded by the Sima clan and her own family was probably glad for the dowry paid.
...Guess only 50% of that statement was true
The sting was there again, the angered woman doing everything in her power to hold back the rage he'd caused. What could would it do for either of them if she were to erupt here? She was intelligent. She'd read many books to better herself, even gone through education when she'd had time. Most often times she would stay up at night to read whatever she could find, most often nowadays peeking at her husband's books whenever she had the chance.
It was irritating; how easily he could disregard her talents, though granted she'd been taught to hide them. Women were meant to be seen, not heard. Meant to take care of a family and raise them while obeying their husband. She wasn't like that, try as she had.
"Is that what you think of me, then?" Her tone was firm, brows pulling down toward the lids of her eyes. The light-haired young woman clicked herself toward the desk where his work sat, eyes thinned at how easily he was able to disregard her position. That rare burst of power revved up in her spine, her posture straight and her arms crossed over her voluptuous chest.
"Here I told myself that if I ever had to suffer at the hands of an ignorant, arrogant man that I would at least hold myself in high regard in his presence and never allow myself to be talked down to. I expect myself to keep hold of such beliefs."
"Hmph" Her tensing did not go unnoticed, and he could feel that she was holding back her anger. Had he been in a better mood he would have probably been amused by her display of patience, his teasing was known for being merciless at times but he had never really dealt with women in a fashion that required him to care and changing what he was used to was a tedious task.
Sima Yi broke away from her dead lock, skimming past her as he sauntered towards his desk, arranging several documents here and there before he finally spoke up.
"I understand that I am not the most attractive of males, but your staring is making me think otherwise"
Ugh. So typical.
Sima Yi styled Zhongda had to be the moodiest man she'd ever met. Though if they were honestly going to speak of how attractive he was-- that was another matter entirely. It bit at her even still.
"Hn. There's nothing else to look at in this place. I had expected to go to a wealthier family, since being bought and sold like cattle appears to be the fad." Her tone was deeper than most women's, but still retained its gentleness.
"Why even accept the marriage if you do not, as far as I am concerned, appear to want it?" Given, they'd been 'married' for quite some time now. It never got easier, though. She was always still going to be viewed as so much younger than he.
"I see no reason that I should treat you any different” He scoffed, those his expression did not match his tone, a slightly softened look appearing in his sulphur gaze.
"I never complained about the arrangement… but if you get in my way I will not be pleased"
'Get in your way? She was tempted to say it outloud, her expression turning defensive. The two of them may have been different in status, but she despised being talked to in such a way.
She bit back her tongue, aureate optics honing in to glare at his own sulphur-colored globes. She was tempted to bite back at him with words-- to insult him to his face. But she held back, straightening her posture with her hands upon her legs.

Chunhua was silent as she prepared their meal, steaming the buns to perfection over the heat provided by fire. Long tangles of chestnut hue fell to cascade over her back, fingers hard at work and yet careful not to burn.
"Sima Yu," Zhang Chunhua began, not even bothering to look over her shoulder. She knew the girl would come if she were called. "Fetch me a pitcher of water. We'll need more in here for it to properly boil."

"Is there a problem, my Lady?”
"Stop playing games with me, my Lady" Sima Yi replied indifferently, regarding her with an none-too-amused expression before he turned away. "Out with it, what do you want?"
"...Hmm..There's no need to be so harsh," Her words slid out, tangles of golden-brown hair falling to mingle with the pinkened skin of her shoulders.
Zhang Chunhua turned herself to seat upon a small stool, her posture slouching only slightly. "The least you could do is attempt to pretend you are happy with this arrangement."

"Is there a problem, my Lady?”
"None in particular," She answered in a modest tone of voice, though the way her inflection had spun about was anything but humble. "Can't an old woman spin a grand opening to a question of how a strategist has slept?"

Oh, good Lord. How did she get all the way out here? The woman really needed to start looking ahead of herself rather than what was going on around her. Before she knew it, she'd wandered right into the military district.
It wasn't that she'd never been here before with her husband... but that was just it; she was without him today. Naught but a grocery basket swinging from her elbow with each heal-clacking step she took along the pavement.
She caught sight of a familiar face; Zhang Liao. Zhang Chunhua had to give herself a moment of thought; was she related to this man? She'd need to ask him what county he was from to be sure.
"Pardon me," She began, "I do hope I'm not intruding, General. Are my sons present today?"

The Sickly General and the Strategist's Wife (Closed)
His body tensed up the moment her fingers closed on his wrist, the spade stopping halfway to the ground. Any mild annoyance he might have felt for being stopped was overwritten by the realization of who it was - everyone harbored a deep respect for Lady Chunhua, and her stern reputation had made no less of an impact on him.
"M-my lady…" he said, still clutching the dirt-covered tool as he observed her disapproving glance. "Forgive me, but I think there’s some sort of misunderstanding. I was sent here to assist…I’d be doing these other men a disservice if I stopped working now. Besides, I can assure you that I feel perfectly fi-"
And as if on cue, his chest tightened as another coughing fit seized him. He turned his head away and covered his mouth, silently cursing his luck - was he really so pitiful that Lady Chunhua herself had to intervene and pull him aside?
"Come now, General Guo. I couldn't possibly live with myself if I allowed such a sick man to work himself to death right in front of my eyes." Her tone was surprisingly soft, that bittersweet edge tacked on between the softness of her serpentine lips.
Sweeping aside the violet fabric of her gown, she pulled the spade from him and set it down into the dirt, the strong muscles in her arms forcing it down while the tip of his boot pushed down on it the weight of her legs.
Well, this wouldn't be too bad, she mused silently.
"Have you and your wife been well?" She asked, attempting to make idle conversation. She'd always respected the man for doing all he could while in such a condition. "The rolling of Spring just around the corner must have you both eager for warmth."

☽ ((youjusthadtodryyourbooks. Still getting situated with the blog, but will respond~))
The heat of the early spring sun beat down hard upon the fields, the sky above a pale, cloudless blue. On any other occasion, it might’ve been a lovely day…But this was a little different.
Guo Huai paused to wipe the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand, clutching a dirt-clotted spade in his other hand. He’d traded his usual long robes for faded work clothes and tied his long hair back in a ponytail, but he still looked woefully out of place among the others at work; as much as he knew that assisting in hard labor was every bit as important as his other responsibilities, he couldn’t deny that he was woefully unsuited for this work.
Picking the spade back up, he turned his attention back to the job at hand, digging into the soil. This was going to be a long job…
"Allow me," Zhang Chunhua's voice faded in from the background, pity having captivated the aureate eyes that rested behind fluttering, black lashes. One hand reached out to take hold of the Lord's wrist, Lady Chunhua shaking her head in silent scolding.
Her fingers held themselves open to accept the spade from him, golden hues opening to give an incriminatory stare at the man in front of her. How could they allow him to do such work? While assisting those that the military had uprooted or caused misfortune for was needed, it was wrong to have the sickly General stationed at such work. "One cannot expect a man of your health to be digging around in the dirt, General Guo."
