Hand on your head. Did you howl, little wolf, when first it dripped down your spine? Sweet and molten as sugar, syrupy burn leaving ravines in its wake, and you, strung out on its precipice—

Not for him. Jaw locked so tight you felt your teeth break (and now, mouth open and panting-hot, you mark the spot on her ribs where your own glow ghost) but you did not, would not, will not, howl for him. Chained cur or beloved pet, you do not howl.
Hand on your head. She touches your hair, your cheek, your jaw where your teeth still ache. She touches your hair, restless, ceaseless, hand to your lips wet and smearing.
You bite. Never learned not to. Never could tell the hand that feeds from the hand that hurts, never could make yourself care about the difference when even the feed tastes of ozone and metal (and salt and skin), but first press of your teeth earns a gasp and first taste of your tongue flexes her hand, a new shape in the dark corners of your mouth.
Clever trick, little wolf. What others do you know?
This: you dip your head (saliva smears your cheek, cooling-cold on your scars) and lick, and her thigh trembles lightning-hot static-sharp against your cheek and her moan hits your ears staccato like a sob.
You know your tricks well. Soon enough, your skin is fire, walls and bedsheets and soft bare skin washed foxglove, and there are chasms of ice down your arms, your lips, the frozen ridge of your spine. She touches your neck and says your name, and obedience wraps its jaws around your throat and grips you tight.
“Fenris—”
“Jasper.”
More a growl than a word. Rasping against the soft dark inside of your throat, the last warm place in your body.
“Here—” she’s breathless, wordless, pulls you up and wraps her arms around the searing cage of your ribs, presses herself to your mouth, length of her body eclipsing yours as the pain washes through you. In the dark corners of her world, her bedroom, her mouth, it takes on a shape like ecstasy. “Are you okay?”
Fingers against the crack in the world that should be your spine. You didn’t howl for him, but you could for her. Could for her, if only you could.
“I have to go.”
“Fenris—” frowning, now, fingernails against your ribs as she pushes on her elbows, tries to smile. To meet your eyes. “Was it that bad?”
“It was fine.” You don’t let her. Pull back, cast about for your clothes, so hastily discarded. Metal glistening firelight-umber on her rich warm carpet. It weighs on your shoulders like shame, like anger, knits your body tight in on itself with every buckle. “It– that– no.”
How do you tell her you’re hurting me? What do you have, little wolf, but tooth and jaw and the will to use them? You pull your vambrace too tight, feel the tips of your fingers start to numb. Jasper sits up, head to one side, bleach-bone hair pooling at her collarbone. No shame, nothing to be shy about, she watches you with the same gentle worry she watches all of you, her pack of misfits. The bruise on her ribs is lurid purple, and, ungenerous and possessive, you wonder if she’ll have her mage wipe it from her skin.
So there it is: like a stray snapping over scraps, your teeth ache at the thought. Fiddling with a buckle, you look into the fire.
“Did I hurt you?”
Her voice is soft, pre-laden with guilt. Your Jasper (your Jasper, already, since the day you met–), always taking on others’ burdens. In the face of her offering, brittle bones and brittle smiles, what can you do but lie?
“No. It– it was better than I could have dreamed.” A sideways look; she blinks, eyes firebright. A soft landing for your words. “I started to– remember. Flashes.” Dressed, now, metal and sharp edges against her bared skin. “My life before. I– I can’t do this.”
She doesn’t stop you leaving, but you feel the chain at your throat all the same. You may never howl for him, but for her, always, you will come when called.
"Much has been said about how Wyll's romance better fits what Astarion seems to truly want in a relationship, that Wyll is happy with a more chaste relationship, etc etc. But what's often missed is that Astarion is actually a fantastic match for Wyll! Wyll is self-sacrificing to an unhealthy degree, and often minimizes the abuse and trauma he's been through. Astarion, meanwhile, is much more open-eyed to what he's experienced. He's happy to choose himself when needed and pushes those he cares about to do the same. And if you play as Astarion, you're given unique dialogue options to compare Mizora and Cazador and urge Wyll away from being passive in response of how she abuses him. Astarion needs someone to teach him how to empathize with others, and Wyll needs someone to teach him to fight for himself as much as he does for others. They complete each other!"
vs. Ansur/Emperor
"THE doomed exes ship. ansur loved balduran enough to search for him, shelter him, try to save him, and then couldn’t accept what he’d become. the emperor loved him enough that killing him is still framed as this huge buried wound centuries later, even through all the mind flayer emotional repression and manipulation. it’s horrible because neither of them is uncomplicatedly “wrong” in the emotional sense? ansur sees the person he loves transformed into something he believes is a monster. the emperor sees the person he trusts most deciding that mercy means killing him. they loved each other and it still ended under the city with a dragon’s corpse and a sword in the dark. what the fuck man."

the microsoft/xbox boycott is working btw. under global pressure they have already cut off azure from unit 8200 and sacked the head of their israel office. they’re hoping these moves will quiet things down and get people to look the other way, but their collaboration goes MUCH deeper than just unit 8200. keep going. no games for genocide.

the thing about possession in dragon age is that it's the big scary. the main evil we're warned of the thing that justifies harrowings and tranquility with the unspeakable threat it poses. if you let a demon in your head it will ruin you it will use you to break through to the material world it so covets and kill you in the process of breaking free. if you let a demon in it will destroy you and then set its sights on everything and everyone else still in reach. and yet the major possession cases in dragon age are. lifesaving
faith possesses wynne to save her. anders allows justice to possess him to save him. even lucanis and spite (...) band together out of a mutual need to survive. they save each other at great risk and knowing that not doing so would make the surviving half's life infinitely easier and less dangerous (minus lucanis and spite. don't worry about it.), and then they continue to negotiate that shared existence with like. really comparatively a lot of care. like we definitely do, in dragon age, see possessions that are violent, not really consensual, fatal to the mortal, but we also spend a Lot of time with cases where... the big fears around possession... are just visibly not True. which is not even beginning to talk about spirit healing in general (and how the Two "we merged because i love you and i don't want to lose you" abominations are spirit healers).
I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;
The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.
And I am not going to mince words here:
A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.
That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.
"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.
