His heart thumped, lodged halfway through his throat as he looked down at his hand. He concentrated on an image of her pose. And finally, a sceptre appeared. Emerging from the depths of Lin Ling's mapped out thoughts and materialized into his hand.
At first, it appeared as bright confusing light concentrated from his palm. And in a blink, that single point pulled the weapon. A vague shape of a wand, yet stretching further and further.
He looked down at it, staring with curiosity as he observed that it adjusted to his beginner needs.
Instinctively, his hand spun the weapon in a mesmerising motion. Falsified muscle memory allowed him to handle the staff with expert ease as he gripped it with a sense of familiarity. He readied his nerves and walked within the midst of the city as the backdrop faded to hues of pink. His eyes focused at the end of the street. Then he hid behind the smoking car and peeped from the broken behind, head sticking out. For observatory reasons of course.
At the end of the road was a lithe figure, clad in a white costume. A swirling cape with spotless white and gold accents. A uniform blinding paper hue lining up muscled limbs.
“Nice?” Lin Ling muttered under his breath. His eyes caught the view of a face, furrowed with concentration and readied with a violent punch in his grip. Nice was quicker than what television captured. A striking arc of pure light that flitted in the sky with reckless destruction in its wake. Quick, and almost uncaring of the damage lingering in his path, he had accelerated down onto the road, two fists colliding with the ground and narrowly missing the nifty criminal. He had left a catastrophically large crater in the middle of the road. Nice slowly pulled himself up, blue eyes narrowed to the villain.
Her hands extended to form some malevolent shroud. A wicked shade of purple sludge which captured him with relative ease. Lin Ling blinked. There was no way Nice was captured just like that!
Yet Lin Ling remained there in his boot legged glory, remaining by a flaming car with resigned look and the internal stare of denial. The truth finally settled in, Nice was truly incapacitated! All that punching was just for show! Lin Ling felt devastation rock through him.
He was taken out much too quickly! Lin Ling tried to grapple with these facts. He played these thoughts in his head as he gently worried his bottom lip, nibbling on it. He wasn’t exactly obligated to take any sort of action, in all reality, he was scared shitless and really, it was Nice’s responsibility to deal with the troublemaker. Yet, the man of the hour was attached to the pane of the bank's glass walls, stuck in a bubble of sticky purple and knocked out, or he seemed to be with his dramatic pose and his gaze cast down.
Lin Ling struck a decision and took action.
He flung his stupid staff over to the ground, aiming for the lady's head as it zipped through and narrowly missed. Close but not close enough, so much for finishing the job with a surprise attack. He really should have perfected javelin in high school instead of twiddling his thumbs.
The crowd did not cheer nor roar in applause, because frankly, his get up was ridiculous. Alongside the fact that the area was also absurdly dusty that no one could see him in the moment anyways, so he was basically obscured by the plume of purple smoke.
Obscured to everyone except for the villain could see him in full. Her eyes jumped to him.
“That is one skimpy outfit.” She whistled, eyes tracing his figure. “Didn’t know they made heroes like that.”
Lin Ling’s face soured, gripping his staff with a white knuckled grip. “I know it’s breezy! You don’t have to tell me. I’m the one wearing it!” He groaned.
She sent off more bubbles, mind pulled in with focus as they trailed after him, slugging around slimily on the pavement. He narrowly evaded them.
“I kinda like that.” She leered. His expression fell, even more than his previously shameful one that held a conscious gaze towards his own attire. A truly rock bottom gaze that had his soul flying up as he stared with a look, halfway to giving up.
“You’re not a pervert right?” He asked. Suddenly feeling oddly exposed. More than usual.
She only smiled.
