“I thought you and I were friends.” Illyana’s lips tug downwards. “You’re not being very friendly, Stephen.”

"What, they made everyone unfun in the twelfth century?’ She tsks. “And I was not whining.”

“sorry you don’t think you want to do it––?” warren raised an eyebrow, “right, okay, let me just - ” he made a vague rewind motion with his hands, “go back then. what is your deal?” the little bird comment certainly didn’t help.

"I used to have many things. I still do.” She doesn’t have Limbo anymore. “Midnight Suns, Strange Academy, the X-Men, the Captains of Krakoa.” Each accomplishment is ticked off on a black painted finger. “If you’re asking about my attitude, that’s different.”

“Probably best I stay just that. A memory. Built their lives while little time passed for me. Better this way. Less complicated.” He nodded as he remembered the moment where the hive died. Feeling each death and the grip of death only to be fought off by the combined healing factor of Jimmy and Poison. “Yeah, that thing.”

"Don’t tell me you’re lovelorn or something. There’s many fish in the sea that aren’t named Jean Grey.” Maybe Illyana’s wrong. She doesn’t think that she is. “You’re not Poison though. How’d you work that out?”

Stephen chose not to comment on that first part, and stifled a small smirk. “Is that so? What happened there? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by demons. Don’t you think it’s time to try something new? I gave it to Madelyne Pryor.”

“You wouldn’t be the first.” Stephen’s tone was droll as he stared the blonde mutant up and down for a moment. The mention of the spell made him sigh, the severity of the entire ordeal weighing on him heavily. It felt wrong that he wasn’t present, although he wasn’t sure it would have made a difference considering Wanda was the one who mostly performed it. “There wasn’t any other alternative. At least now that people are mostly back to themselves we have more time to resolve it.”

“Damn. I love to be a trendsetter.” Illyana smirks. “I know. Believe it or not, I am not here to rake you over the coals. I’m here to help. I was hoping I would run into other Stephen, but you’ll do.”

“You’ll have to remind me who your brother is. Although if I had to guess which Council member he was, I’d guess the tall scary Russian one.” That seemed like a no brainer, but maybe his hunch was wrong. It usually wasn’t. “Maybe not, but something tells me you won’t stop keeping tabs just because it’s technically hers now.”

“Colossus.” Everyone knows Piotr. He used to be big and lovable. Now, he’s got more demons. Illyana needs to do a better job at being his sister. She knows that. “Eh, we’ll see. It was my second home for a long time. I grew up there.”

“Surprisingly, yes. I’ve received a far warmer welcome than I anticipated.” Or felt he deserved. “When you become the Sorcerer Supreme for Death, it warrants a change in style. It’s taken some getting used to. Though to me, everyone feels like a bit of a stranger. Maybe we’ve all changed, or maybe it’s just me.”

“That’s probably because the other you sucks.” He’s not that bad, but he’s not the Stephen Strange that people are used to. She shrugs one black clad shoulder. “I’ve changed. I’m not Queen of Limbo anymore. Big changes everywhere.”

An orange portal leading to the Sanctum dissipated behind Stephen as he turned around and faced the person in front of him. “This better be important. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but reality is still falling apart.” The bags that had plagued his eyes for the past few months were gone now, which was an improvement, but things were far from fine.

Illyana comes from her own portal, the bright light fading away as approaches. “What, you think that I’m an errand girl coming here for no reason?” There’s a tsk. “Scott and Jean would have come themselves, but I’m more familiar with the Sanctum.” Even if she’s no longer Queen of Limbo, Illyana feels the change. Something is off. “I’d say you guys really messed up, but I was unfortunately there as well.”

“Unfortunately, I am well aware. I have known you long enough to know this was pointless. Laugh away, Yana. I promise I won’t blast you.” Does he sound bitter? 

“I would hope not. I happen to be a very important member of your team.” Every member of the X-Men brings their own thing to the table. Magik is secure in her place even if she’s recently undergone big life changes. She’s still Illyana, still Magik. She’s just Limbo-less now. She sobers then. “We need to talk about what happened. Piotr told me. Also, I saw Jean.”

“From what I’ve heard, you’ve recently joined the X-Men roster.” Stephen pointed out, nodding along to her reasoning as he took that all in. Now that his own plate was a cleared, he would definitely be looking into Limbo and it’s newfound Queen. He wasn’t the type of man who wallowed in things, even if the recent developments with Clea were more than starting to get to him. “Maybe with all your free time you can help her come up with one.” His tone was sarcastic.

“I did. My brother is helping rule Krakoa. It was making me look bad.” That’s a joke. As a Captain of Krakoa and New Mutant, Illyana was plenty busy on the Island. That was without her rostered role on the Midnight Suns and teaching duties at Strange Academy taken into consideration. “I gave her Limbo. That doesn’t make us friends. Besides, I have other things to do. Other spells to cast, portals to make. I’m very popular.”

“Like what? Figure out how to win Jean Grey’s heart? I can give you a tip: don’t marry her clone. That was dumb enough the first time.”

“It was one time.” He looks sullen, serious. “So you can laugh, one time, but then it’s time to drop it.” 

“One time is enough. It happened.” Illyana and Scott go way back at this point. They’ve tasted the Phoenix together and lived with the fallout. Now, they’re both X-Men. It’s good to work with Scott again, to fall into a rhythm. “You know I don’t forget things, right?”
