A/N:- This is just for mere fun and in no way accurate. This is just my opinion and I am not qualified/have no degree to concretely say, “THIS IS RIGHT”. This is just how I view the characters, their personalities and their MBTI types. DL;DR Thank you. ☺
So, Dean is a character many of us love. Many of us consider him a role model or a hero. And he deserves all of that. Because he does have an amazing personality. As our first study, let’s break his persona down into the four main dichotomies.
1.Introversion/Extraversion
So this is basically which world or surrounding they prefer. Whether they get their energy working with a big group or if they’d choose one or two close friends over the former. Now Dean, is usually seen working with just one other person. At the beginning his dad and later, Sam. There are instances where they work with other hunters or other supernatural beings. But, if you notice, Dean never really feels comfortable with anyone other than Sam or Castiel(we have other characters who come later in the show like Charlie, Garth, Kevin etc.) . But, the only people he trusts enough and knows they’ve got his back is his brother and his “best friend” ( ;) ). The point being, Dean doesn’t handle more than a few people at a time and is sceptical of them when he does. Be it Crowley or Bobby or Gadreel even, he only interacts one at a time. So I guess it’s safe to say that Dean is an introvert which gives him “I”.
This is more about how you receive/interpret your information. Whether you rely on your senses and what you see/hear/taste/touch/smell or whether you gather information and rely on the deep/hidden meanings behind them. For this particular trait Dean usually relies on his senses and doesn’t readily accept abstract ideas unless they’re proven. This is seen in various instances but mostly through his scepticism of some supernatural beings. For example, he refused to believe in angels or anything of that sort(though that may have been due to the happenings in his life)until he met Castiel. But then again, the happenings in his life would influence his personality. Another example is with Sully. This is a pretty straight forward one where Dean didn’t want to think Sam was fighting his childhood imaginary friend in a kitchen until he actually saw him. There are many other examples as well but I think these suffice in saying that Dean is more of an “S” than an “N”.
A lot of people confuse ‘feeling’ with being emotional about taking decisions. It isn’t about that. It’s merely what path you choose when taking a decision: whether you like to analyze the problem and list out its pros and cons or if you prefer doing what’s best or morally right for everyone else. This is a bit difficult to analyze for Dean because he analyzes his problems and makes concrete decision based on how he feels about others. There are times when he doesn’t exactly think things through and does what he believes is best for him and Sam. Sam is always a crucial factor in his decisions and he starts to feel whenever Sam or Castiel is involved in them. Even when he decided to make the demon deal or pray out to every angel when Sam was on his deathbed or let Gadreel secretly use Sam as a vessel or even get the Mark he never actually thought things through, I believe. So maybe Dean is more of an “F” than he is a “T”.
This is pretty much how one chooses to deal with the outside world. Dean doesn’t really have any regular concrete habits or prefer making a to-do list when he works. He just tends to go with the flow. He tends to make up plans as they go. He likes keeping things casual and not dealing right away. There are times when he’s spontaneous and impulsive in his approaches. Yes, there are times when he has these super awesome plans and the time when he larped with Charlie and was helping her strategise. He only did it because they were either saving the world or he was just extremely interested in doing so. Natural “J” types would probably have structured habits in whatever they do. Dean just shows that trait when he wants to. So I guess he’s a “P”.
Which make, ISFP. So I guess, according to me Dean Winchester is an ISFP.
