can I pet that dawg?
For the people, Bryant and Robinson doing what may be the most insane pass Iâve seen
The Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad is, to a modern audiences, what classicists have called âboring as hell,â but I canât help but think that if you were watching Homer recite it it would have been more like when comedians go, âanybody here tonight from Chicago?â and the Chicagoans in the back start cheering
Homerâs like, âand there were forty black ships from⌠LOCRISâ and the Locrians in the crowd start going absolutely nuts
i wish more stuff looked like that season of doctor who where they were smearing vaseline on the camera
the noticeable overexposure of the film coupled with the tactile "ugliness" of the environments and costumes looks so good to me. genuinely dreamy
oh my fuckning
UNMUTE THIS
Iâm at a cafe and I started crying because I had to contain my laughter at how stupidly funny this is
I collaborated with the Human Artistry Project to make this strip alongside other web cartoonists to make the point that âStealing isnât Innovationâ when it comes to A.I. usage. It seems to be doing numbers on instagram and elsewhere, so you may also read it here, tumblr.
May the discourse that ensues be long and unhelpful.
The last panel needs to be a poster put up in every school in the world.
PSA: tumblr user littlefuckinmonster is stealing human bones from cemeteries in Louisiana. Please donât let them get away with this and spread the word/signal boost!
this post is officially a decade old now
For anyone who wasnt around when this happened, this was real. Littlefuckinmonster was actually stealing bones from cemeteries. She is the bone stealing witch. She was specifically stealing bones from poor people. She was arrested for it.
This is not a Goncharov, this literally happened, hereâs the Wikipedia article about it.
weâve gone from the yee haw agenda to the ye olde thot programme
Ah yes, those slutty slutty Landsknecht shorts:
The bare-legged / hot-pants look was fairly common, since the whole point about being a Landsknecht (or Reislaufer, their Swiss equivalent) was to look outrageous.
Most period illustrations of Landsknechts are black-and-white woodcutsâŚ
âŚthough in 1905 a book called âGeschichte des KostĂźmsâ - History of Costume - assembled a bunch of black-and-whites and added colour.
If they look excessively gaudy, theyâre not, because these next prints were coloured in-period by an artist called Erhard SchĂśn, and itâs fair to assume he was representing what he saw.
In short - or in shorts - those reenactor costumes are spot on. :->
Something mentioned nowhere in this post that I have just learned from googling: these guys were not Ye Olde Medieval Dandies. They were 15th-16th century mercenaries. Pretty hardcore, too. They were exempt from sumptuary laws (ie the rules that said you couldnât wear certain colours or cloth or styles) and apparently their response to that was technicolour thotpants.
I was complaining earlier about costuming in both âhistoricalâ settings and in fantasy/scifi. This is exactly what I mean when I say a knowledge of actual history would enrich the conceptual creative palette for things like âhardcore mercenary outfits.â
Geschicte des KostĂźmes is available in its entirety scanned by the Smithsonian Institute.
Itâs in German and thereâs a LOT in there, but if you want to look at various historical clothing or need illustrations of it for some reason, there you go.
Well, that made me happy. đđ âď¸
Didn't realize it was a barn at first so I thought by Belgians she meant. People.
No same I was excited
What if I were a lawyer and you were a comic bubble⌠and what if we were both girlsâŚ
oc brainrot. is real
You managed to give expressive posing to an abstract shape what the fuck
Really hate how âmommy and daddy issuesâ just a jab at the child and not the parent
Oh, so your parent(s) traumatized you when you were vulnerable and defenseless, and they let you down when you were reliant on them for your emotional needs? Lol idiot.
My ENTIRE world just shifted to the left a bit. Thanks.
Any story which refers to Haiti as an impoverished nation, which is all of them, should also mention that when Haitians won their independence from France, French gunships showed up and demanded they pay something like 22 billion dollars in today's money to compensate France for the stolen land and enslaved people they could no longer exploit
It took Haiti over a hundred years to pay that ransom and it's difficult to explain just how badly that fucked up their entire development, especially since France also demanded a 50% discount on everything they bought from Haiti just to make it harder. Like! No wonder they're impoverished!
Anyway if France would like to assist Haiti in its current difficulties they could always pay back the fucking money they extorted
Pro tip: when you see a brand new slang term, your first question should be how that term has been used in AAVE for the past 20-30 years.
This, too. This is a big one as well.
